Here's some questions I came up with today:

Imagine yourself in a post-apocalyptic situation. This can be a zombie apocalypse, an extremely devastating world war, a pandemic wiping out most of humanity, maybe a widespread, devastating natural disaster, anything you want to imagine. Let's say this disaster ended for some reason or is not as pervasive as it used to be, and human civilization ended or nearly ended and the government fell. You survived through this apocalypse. If you had a group, they either all died or left you or something. Imagine what you want, but I want you to get this idea: You are a post-apocalyptic survivor, civilization has been destroyed or almost destroyed. The world is anarchic now with a much smaller population and you are alone. What will you do?

You are alone and out in this wild, anarchic world to survive. Taking into consideration scarce resources, the fact that you can't trust everybody, your chances of survival, and more, answer these questions:

  • How much will morals and ethics matter to you at this point? Will you try to manipulate, steal from, and even kill people to get what you want/need or more of what you want/need? Will you give things to anybody who asks (even if you need that stuff) and do as much as you can to help people? Something else?
  • Where will you be? Will you be in a city, where there could be a bigger presence of people? Will you be in the countryside, where there would most likely be less people and you could grow food? Perhaps you'll be in the woods or jungle or something, where there would be more food but there could be animals that could kill you easy?
  • How would you feel about groups? Will you try to go it alone and avoid people as much as people where you won't have to worry about trust or conflict or anything? Or would you try to find a group, where there'd be people to support you, solve problems together, even though there's the risk of being killed by someone, there being conflict, losing friends, and such?
  • What about weapons? What would you carry? Let's be realistic and not pick any fictional weapons, rare weapons, and such. Think about easily accessible weapons. What would you carry and why? Think about weight, too.

Feel free to discuss this and maybe give a critique of someone else's answers. Also, should I add a poll? Tell me if I should or shouldn't.

1:A lawless world with hostile individuals at every turn? I think I'd probably do a stick up test. Meaning I'd stage a roberry to try and gaige

just how hostile this person is before I make a judgement or try to befriend them. I honestly think that..yeah i'd probably forego most morals just because others wouldn't think twice about stealing from me or blowing my head off or something. That said, if they seem legit nice and are asking for some supplies, I'l share as much as I can because that's just the kind of person that I am XD

2:I would definately try to get myself into a city. There's just so many super duper tactical advantages but also that works as disadvantages against me depending on how smart the other people are. From high areas (assuming they wont reduce to rubble while trying to climb) to scope out the area and lie down on rooftops to keep a low profile with binoculars, to all the higher possibilities of finding stuff like food and some scrap or electronics (i'd force myself to become a mechanical gearhead wiz). There's also a lot of hiding places in case you need to take a passive approach to a human or creature coming nearby. More shade too from all of dat heat from Mr.Sun and it'd also help if there was a Nuclear Winter and you'd have a lot of underground to traverse kinda like Metro 2033.

3:OH BOY, I'd be alone most of the time while keeping a group nearby. If it is as hostile as I'm imagning, I don't think I'd want to get too close or too far to someone else. But as I said before, if they are legit nice I'm definately going to stick to them like butter. Other groups attacking..well i'm not ashamed to admit that I'd run or attempt to run amidst the chaos. Maybe let the douchebags of the group take one for the team while trying to save the good folks. (Jeeze, I sound like such a jerk XD) Not just for the added benefit of scavenging groups, but i mean it'd be nice to have at least ONE pony to talk to while digging through dusty food store aisles looking for those beans from 1983.

4:A weapon? I think more than likely I would look for at least a gun. Handgun definately as it seems more practical and easier to carry around. Ammo would probably be rarer than food so I'd use the buttocks of it to smack a bro if needed. I would also try and find a good rifle of some sort as I would probably fashion a sling for it from some old luggage or backpack straps (Mechanical savvy baby). And definately a good, sharp object of some sort like maybe a kitchen knife and put it somewhere easy to carry like a pocket since it's so small. Probably end up cuting myself when I forget it's in there and I put my hand there but hey SURVIVAL IS WORTH A FEW CUTS.

I think I covered all the points you brought up. Really interesting as I love The Walking Dead and Fallout series both!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, i'd avoid a hospital like the plague. No really, I would go to smaller clinics to look for supplies or head to a major medical lab. Seems like it'd be more liekly in my bizarre logic to find some medical supplies

1) I'm a strong, self-sufficient individual. If i'll be held back because i still have my humanity - better die than become a savage. That being said; There are fine lines which i wouldn't mind crossing if i can save myself without sacrificing others in my stead, such as performing cannibalism, for instance, or looting a corpse, or stealing from bandits.

2) I really wouldn't know. Depending on the scenario, i'd avoid danger when it's avoidable. I wouldn't shirk from the company of other well-behaved people, but i wouldn't mind exploring a little solo on my own.

3) To begin with, i'm very selective with whom i trust. I wouldn't group up with anyone who even has the slightest chance of stabbing me in the back; groups mean strength in numbers, but it also means logistics - you have to care for the rest of your team. However, i wouldn't mind getting in a small group if the rest of it's members' survivability is on par with mine (at least). I'll make an exception should the circumstances change (for a friend or a close one in need, etc).

4) I'm a tall, slim person, but i have a good measurement of strength (at least in the sense of carrying stuff). I'd probably whip up a polearm-esque weapon, or some sort of a spear for instance, using my height for my advantage when swinging it or gaining range on my opponent. I have some basic knowledge of maintaining actual small firearms, but i wouldn't hurry to carry a pistol as my aim isn't quite steady. A good option for a side-arm for me would be a machete or a similarly shaped weapon; the closer the range, the more a large, long weapon such as a polearm can become a burden, and i'd rather switch to something which can be swung fast and dish out harm at the cost of little power - a short, bladed weapon is something that jumps to mind.
