Even if I could manipulate the minds of others to the extent required in order to alter the manner in which they perceive the fandom, I wouldn't. It would serve no purpose. Who cares what others think of us? Let them say what they will, but they don't affect me, and if they did, I would ignore them, for they are not worthy of my attention or respect. In fact, such individuals are not even worthy of entering my field of view.

I was a Trekkie back in the  1970s.  You guys are their (spiritual) grandchildren.  The only thing different is rule 34. (The internet hadn't been invented yet).  I'd post you the words to some filks, but Hasbro would pull my plug.  Oh, & there are different weird costumes, RPGs & authors, etc.  God Himself couldn't change fandom or the way it's perceived (I refer you to Genesis for the last time He tried).

 there will always be R34, I don't care what fandom it is, and people will always form stereotypes about a group they don't know about. I'm sure that even you have some stereotypes floating around your brain.

 

instead of trying to do the impossible and get rid of the clop, wouldn't it be easier to point out that we're not the only fandom that has it?

 

If I could change anything about our image, I would make it less about a group of people who watch a show about ponies and make them see a group of passionate writers, singers and programmers who give our fandom it's many treasured fanfic, songs, and games.

 

in the pokemon fandom your hear people complaining about not having an MMORPG.

but the brony community is making their own (ever hear about "legends of Equestria"?

not only that but we have tons of fan made games! it's insane how much we have! 

 

think about it! we make other fandom's look like whiny brats.

 

and to be frank, I don't think we need to change our image.

we should be the better ones and be who we are no matter what hater's may say.

because no matter what they say, we will always have a fandom filled with kind. intelligent, open minded people to have our backs when we're feeling down.

I'll assume that I'm someone that can shape the world to their liking, and personally I would tweak things.

 

First, I would set up things so that any gory and pornographic stuff will go on its own site, with search sites like Google setting up certain restrictions to this. This stuff would still exist (I don't have a problem with it existing, actually), but people that do not want to see it, or have a younger sibling/child see it can at least go through places like Google Images and not stumble across this sort of content. I'm not saying that it needs to end, once again, and I'm not trying to say people will get seriously messed up if they see it, I'm just trying to be fair to people's personal tastes.

 

The second thing is to eliminate any trolls in our fandom, both those who annoy fans and those who annoy non-fans since they are disruptive and the internet can be a better place without them.

 

Otherwise, I think the fandom is generally fine, and I wouldn't change anything else.
