Forgetting that Rainbow Dash is female

It's just like Samus Aran all over again.

No, I've never mistaken her for a boy. I mean, how could you mistake that voice for a boy?

That voice is actually the issue. She sounds like a very young boy, think Ash

Anypony else often times forgets that Rainbow dash is a girl?

I sure do! From how boyish she looks and how much of a tomboy she is with how she acts and her likes and stuff. It is quite easy to forget she is a girl.

I sure don't, then again, I like the tomboy girls. ^^

I made an OC! I'm always looking for feedback on her, please have a look and tell me what you think! ^^

Huh... Her voice always sounded like a girl to me.

Ironically, Ash's voices in the English version always sounded like a girl to me. :derp:

I don't see how some could forget that she was a girl, I mean she has the same physical designs as the other girls, the only thing I could see people getting confused by was the voice, and even then it's pretty to distinguish it being a girl's

The only character I can see people getting confused is Scootaloo, both because colts and fillies look more similar and because of her manecut(but even then the eyelashes kind of give it away)

I don't see how Scootie could be confused for a colt, since she has the female pony round shaped nuzzle and most colts have square shape ones (Rumble being the sole exception, if not were for his lack of eyelashes, he could be totally confused for a filly)

Isn't he the cutest colt around? , I wounder if he'll keep the round nuzzle as he grows

Well, obviously, Ash is voiced by a woman, him sounding like a girl is natural

I don't think I could ever "forget" she was female, but it's pretty obvious that she definitely isn't a "lady" by conventional standards; I think if one were to be introduced to her with no previous MLP background or knowledge, it would certainly be up in the air as to her gender I think.

I've always considered her a girl, aside from Breezies and Male foals only the female characters have eyelashes, and I didn't know that at the time but I still associated her with being female, also I grew up surrounded by several tomboyish girls so the attitude and nature of Dash wasn't foreign to me

  • 3 months later...

I've heard that the VA for Derpy (Tara Strong?) thought Derpy was supposed to be a guy & used a male voice.  This came across as the character was supposed to be stupid & kicked up a shitstorm of LEGENDARY proportions.  IDK if that's true, but it shows how even professionals who are very familiar w the show can make mistakes.

Hey, IRL I thought Cat Stevens was a girl 1st time I heard one of his songs (short for Catherine), so I can understand mistaking Dash for a boy.

Yeah it's true (although it's Tabitha St. Germain who did her voice).

Well I was surprised by her voice when I first heard it but I never really thought she was a girl I guess because  I've liked ponies for such a long time and remember that Rainbow Dash was a girl in older generations.

20111126212403!Rainbow_Dash_blushes_S2E0You must know some really cute girly boys then cause I really don't see anything PHYSICALLY masculine about her. Even personality wise she isn't all that tomboyish. I mean does liking sports REALLY make you a tomboy? If you compare her with Daring do she's practically feminine.

I knew RD was a girl before I even watched the show. It is pretty obvious that she is a tomboy and not a guy IMO.

Admittedly, I did think the leader of the Brezzies was a girl at first until they started referring to him as "him" in the show. The pink hair is what through me.
