well first you need to stat your facts and evidence because it looks to me like you compering entire races to how specific characters are written

and Alicorns there are only 3 with in the can and each have been weakened and defeated in some way.

canon is something with in the show like the party canon (is canon) Fanon is somthing comprised by the fans like trollestia/molestia

I don't think there's any severe imbalance. The Earth ponies don't have distinct abilities as in magic or flying, but they do appear to have the upper hand in terms of strength and stamina.

This is probably an old debate, but if you look at pony races and compare them with earth ponies you see this:

 

- As a pegasi you can fly, step on clouds, control climate and be a Wonderbolt

- As a unicorn you can levitate things, use magic and become a magician or a princess

- But what could you do as an earth pony that no other races can do?

 

I don't see why a pegasus or a unicorn couldn't be farmers or participate in rodeos, all you need is just 4 legs after all which all pony races obviously have (except sea ponies) while as an earth pony you couldn't do all those cool things because you don't have a horn or wings, so would it suck to be an earth pony? Or is there really something that they can do that other races can't?

This is probably an old debate, but if you look at pony races and compare them with earth ponies you see this:

My thing with alicorns is, firstly, theres only 4 known so far. They're "goddesses" in the show, and have the ability to raise the sun 'n moon so on and so forth. Thats just it. They're not meant to be like other ponies. 

 

As for unicorns, their powers to me seem limited. I think of it like this. Unicorns are like mages, if they want to actually have that much power, they have to study and practice. An example from the show is that Twilight took ages to learn how to teleport a significant distance.

 

Pegasi are my favorite. They can control the weather and fly, but take flutter shy for example, unless they actually train they aren't getting anywhere quickly. 

 

Last but, oh lets face it, least, the Earth ponies. Not hating of earth ponies but they are underpowered. In the show however, they are depicted as a hardy race, capable of anything they put their mind to.

 

So yea thats my break down on the "races" of ponies.

Meh, time to throw in my video game style two cents.

 

Earth Ponies are the Warriors/Tanks of MLP. Strength and Stamina.

Pegasus are the Rogues/DPS. Speed and Flight.

Unicorns are the Mage/Ranged DPS. Magic and... Magic.

 As for Earth Ponies' "Special connection to the land", there's no sign of it in the show. Sure, they probably are more physically fit on average than other races, but I don't see a sort of magical aura that helps them plant crops. Non-Earth ponies have been shown harvesting apples just fine. Most likely the "special connection" is more propaganda of the Equestrian government designed to keep the lower orders (Earth Ponies) from realizing the inequity.

 AJ picked up a patch of dirt, later on, commenting on how fertile the soil is, and a sprout immediately grew from it. Because earth pony magic.

A pegasi or Unicorn would NOT have magic that would allow that kind of natural connection to the earth, and for a plant to grow so fast from it, just by holding it in their hoof.

Correction: Only a few unicorns can do "pretty much anything" (Twilight is the only unicorn proper we've seen so far who can teleport)

They don't need to stop farming, they could just stop supplying the other races with food. That would however go against the morales and values of the show. Another thing, there really not that many earth pony farmers, aside from the apple family. I mean look at Octi, Bonbon, Berry Punch, etc.

 

In equestrian (in a literal sense) terms:

Earth ponies are cold blooded/ draft horses; incredibly hardy and capable, what they lacy for in speed they make up for in stamina.

Pegasi are warmblooded horses; jumpers, mostly. Quick and capable leaping to grew nights (unless its western trained), also your race horses, speed is all they need.

Unicorns I'm not sure about but I'd have to say they're hotblooded horses; full of boundless energy, not your average rider can contain them.

Overpowered...? Do you think Earth ponies really care if ponies can do things they can't? No, they love their lives like they are. Like you said, it is a kids show. Everyone that lives in Equestria loves themselves for who they are. No hard feelings.

 

Very true, but don't forget the earthponys magic and ability to grow things!

 

We have an entire episode, hearth warmings eve, that shows you why they are all important and not imbalanced.

One thing that irks me is how unbalanced the races are. Its a kids show and all that but its just so unfair. Unicorns can pretty much do anything, they can teleport so they don't need wings, and Pegasi can fly but what about earth ponies? They don't have any special abilities at all! They should have equal pros and cons in my opinion. And Alicorns are just.... overpowered! It is a kids show and its not all in depth and stuff but they should have balanced races.

 

Earth Ponies have abilities, they are just as good as the other 2 races. Pinkie Pie and Maud Pie can be absolutely terrifying. Big Mac is probably THE physically strongest Earth Pony in Equestria currently, Bulk Biceps doesn't even compare to him. Alicorns will always be the primary race since the other 3 evolved from them, everyone has to accept that. Here is a list to consider:

 

Earth Ponies - Physically the strongest Ponies, have high amounts of energy.

Strongest Earth Ponies - Pinkie Pie, Maud Pie, Big Mac, Applejack.

 

Pegasus Ponies - The most agile Ponies, they can fly and manipulate clouds.

Strongest Pegasus Ponies - Rainbow Dash, Lightning Dust, Wonderbolts team.

 

Unicorn Ponies - The most gifted Ponies, are naturally intelligent and can control magic.

Strongest Unicorn Ponies - Starswirl The Bearded, King Sombra, Trixie, Sunset Shimmer.

 

Alicorn Ponies - The primary race of ponies in which the other 3 evolved from, they are all 3 races combined into 1.

Strongest Alicorn Ponies - Twilight Sparkle, Celestia, Luna, Cadance.

I like to think the races are equals to each other. Including the non-pony races.

 

Applejack would probably win in a fight with Twilight like it was nothing.

I think Earth ponies can endure more hardships and can grow food better. Since none of the Unicorns or Pegasi Farm and the earth ponies have had generations of learning how to grow crops, they are more accustomed to farming and that results in earth ponies getting farming or plant/earth related cutie marks.

Why do people assume that every unicorn can do stuff Twilight did? 

 

When did Rarity teleport or shoot lasers from her horn? Never. 

 

Rarity levitates stuff, make light from her horn, and find gems.  Nothing else. 

 

Twilight is better than the other five in terms of power. 

 

Pegasi can walk on clouds without the aid of magic. (Rarity cannot preform walking on cloud spells by the way.) They can also fly. 

 

Earth Ponies are VERY strong. Please unicorn or pegasus, pull a house and break through a barrier. I would love to see you do that. I am an Earth Pony fanatic even though my avatar is a unicorn. Anyways, earth ponies are strong, can grow food, great climbers, makes me think, "How do they do that?" a lot. Earth pony magic needs to be explored more.

Well, earth ponies do have a magical connection to the earth, and other ponies can't grow crops properly, as stated in Hearth's Warming Eve.
