web What is 4chan?

Its the internet distilled.

I poersonally like the concept of everyone being anonymouis, and thus equal. Of course, this also tends to bring out the worst in some people, so you probably shouldn't go there, if you are the type who takes things some stranger typed to heart.

That being said, there are some boards on there that I'd recommend, namely /tg/ (all things rpg and miniature gaming) and /co/ (cartoons and comics).

Sadly, I cannot recommend /mlp/: its ripe with racism, mysogony and self-loathing with little to no redeeming qualities (some funny captions and the occasional piece of artwork).

My Art Thread, updated (almost) daily

Tomorrow will take us away, far from home

No one will ever know our names

But the bard songs will remain.

The very core of the internet, it's deadliest leaders being /b/. Do not go on there if you value your sanity and innocence.

Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.

You don't want to know what threads I'm on at the moment.

...

I'm not sure I do either.

Yeah it's kind of a given you will end up on 'those' threads on 8chan or halfchan.

I assume we're talking of the same threads, ie ones that would get us banned here.

It's actually ripe with things that I doubt I could talk about here and lots of it in greentext story form usually involving sweetie bell or at least when I spent my time there.

Yeah... some of these boards are an experience to be had.

4chan is the darkest corner of the internet. I always thought the 4 leaf clover was a lucky thing, but in this case, the leaves represent: depression; grossness; anger and lust (cause admit it, you're always going to find some nice webms there ;) )

Just... so much cynicism, bitterness, and anger. It was very unpleasant.

That's Tumblr.

You're definitely thinking of Tumblr.

Heh, Tumblr has it's own fair share of it, that's for sure. But I've found it's all in where you choose to look and who you choose to listen to. Tumblr has 230 million users- as loud and awful as the people we're thinking of are, I don't think they're the majority. I find all kinds of great artists and cool people, and when I focus on them, it's a great site- same goes for places like reddit.

For 4chan, though... I've always had the impression that those things characterized the culture of that site. Though, talking with some people, I wonder if maybe I'm wrong, and if maybe I'm characterizing the whole for the parts that are bad.

Pretty sure the origin of the 4chan logo is Yotsuba.

Difference is though, on 4Chan the shitposting is usually at least funny and people don't tend to take themselves too seriously. (most of the time).

At worst, people are offensive or creepy, which isn't really that big of a deal.

On Tumblr though... not so much.

It has some of the most narcissistic and fun-sapping people I've ever come across. Which is annoying, because the website itself is really fun to use.
