Bending Ability (limited to two abilities): Earth/Air. Uses a technique he calls Dust bending (I dunno), to manipulate the earth with far greater control using his Airbending to necessarily move it. 

Appearance: Medium height, with short, black hair. Tanned skin, green eyes and thin eyebrows. Wears a white cotton vest over a grey shirt with long, black trousers. Smells of oranges.

Personality: Easily fired up over the little things, and often picks up details that others miss. A bit of a joker, dreamer and definitely NOT a realist. He often dreams of being a bending master, being able to bend any element without being the avatar, hence having to learn all of the elements through intensive training.

Backstory: Comes from the slums in the Earth Kingdom, having rarely any money or food. Has an Eartbending father and an Airbending mother who are often away working, leaving him to fend for himself while they are gone. Due to his quite harsh lifestyle, Kai has negated all negative statements and feedback from his life, being taught to be grateful for what you have.

Degree of Control over Elements: Medium. His parents began teaching him to control his bending from a young age, but since they were working majority of the time, he wasn't able to practice on his own. He did, however, develop his own 'Dustbending' technique when he was alone, and has be honing that skill ever since.

Dorm # (1-5): 2. He prefers to keep an open lifestyle, often by himself.

Its a relatively stupid name for it (couldn't think of anything).

 

But what i'm getting at is that he is basically like a super Earthbender. You know how Earthbender can manipulate the ground around them? Well, once it has been manipulated, he uses his airbending in combination with is earthbending to be able to perform many more directional movements, as well as faster, more responsive bending in general. Get what I mean?

Well I had an idea for a character but I don't have a name. And it's also not very modern. I guess this is harder than I thought.

And by the way, I was watching Korra and I haven't watched too far into the series but I just finished the second season so is the finale of the season gonna affect the roleplay?

No. The ending of the season will not affect the roleplay. I'm glad you started watching Legend of Korra which is into it's final season now anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you (Dji) said the current avatar is a firebender, correct? That would mean it's two generations of avatars later. Or rather, there was one avatar between Korra and the current one, whose age is unspecified at this point. Of course, it could also be six generations later I guess.

It would have to be two. Six generations into the future wouldn't be healthy for the lore.

Both Snuggie Lord and Alex are right. This takes place a couple of generations after Korra and the current avatar is about 30 - 40 years old.

I'm curious as to see how this will play out. What was the avatar's name? What do they currently do? Will they have a major role (third person) if any? What is republic city like in the future?

Unfortunately not. It's still an extremely rare ability like bloodbending. But lavabending is not outlawed as no-one criminal has really been shown having it except for whatever that guy's name was in Korra. The one who accidentally forced Bolin to use lavabending.

Name: Sha Jiang (Shā Jiàng)
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Bending Ability (limited to two abilities): Earthbending (sandbending)
Appearance: Seen in mostly sandy colors of tan and orange, though has adopted a love for the "earth nation look" with it's dark greens and browns. He has short black hair and brown eyes and stands about 5' 10''. Sha has a medium muscular build, weighing in at about 190 (lbs.)
Personality: Sha is a simple guy from the outskirts of a popular tourist city. He's kind but doesn't care for people who would rather sit around all day than do something with themselves. He may come off as shy or reserved but in reality, Sha's always kept to himself but wants to socialize, he just isn't sure how.
Backstory: Sha is from a tourist city just inside the Si Wong Desert. He and his father lived there using sandbending to carve statues and obelisks for people who wanted to buy them as souvenirs. They also took orders for such things as grave stones and other decorations made of hard ore and other materials. They lived more into the desert than the city, so business was never booming, but it was more than enough to get them by. Over the course of his life, Sha had been attacked by Sandbender rogues more than just once, but a recent one where he and his father were nearly killed made him think about his life for the first time seriously. Sha then decided that he would build upon his bending and general knowledge of the world, leaving his home to study his earthbending in depth.
Degree of Control over Elements: Sha has very limited control of his element outside of his Sandbending. He can move rocks but he has trouble with most every other basic type of earthbending. His sandbending is much more advanced, however he's only ever used sandbending to craft his statues. He has practiced whipping up a whirlwind of sand, but he hasn't mastered that technique.

Oh man, an avatar RP? Awesome! I'm so pumped for this concept. I have an idea for a student and a teacher.

 

Student

Name: Eet Huus'son

Gender: male

Age: 20

Bending Ability (limited to two abilities): Water (plant/blood)

 

Appearance: Pale, black hair, skinny and tall. Watery emerald eyes looking like he might cry.

 

Personality: Eet is a bit of a quiet soul, he loves to just watch and observe his surroundings. Coming from a more modern but still relatively wild Foggy Swamp he's constantly embarrassed by his poor education. He's not very confident and tends to give in to pressure. He's very sensitive and empathic to others. He feels out of place at the elite school and is afraid his talent for the forbidden blood bending will make him an outcast. He enjoys the company of spirits greatly.

 

Backstory: Raised in the Foggy Swamp Tribe Eet's strong points of water bending lead him to be educated as the next tribe "shaman/healer" this meant a lot of knowledge on medicine, spirits and plants but little else, as well as learning the old 'silly' ways to keep tourist to the swamp entertained. It was a good life if a little trying at times dealing with rude noble tourists. One day it was to much, a particularly nasty nobleman who had been mocking the swamp folk all day started kicking a baby catgator that had started to playfully chew on the mans shoe; Eet snapped and used we he described as "combining plant bending and healing but in reverse to hurt and force" to blood bend the man into submission. Eet had never heard of blood bending before and did not know it was illegal or why their was a huge fuss was made over what he had done, though he was distraught for getting so upset and hurting the man. World Government officials showed up two days later with two options: be incarcerated for an unspecified amount of time as to be declared a non-threat or attend the bending school and graduate as a certified controlled bender. He chose the school.

 

Degree of Control over Elements: Mixed: general control - average, offensive form - sloppy, defensive form - abysmal, ice control - nonexistent, healing - elite, plant bending - elite, blood bending - self described as "like trying to pick up a old turtledog with a pair of sledgehammers, you could do it but the turtledog will squirm and be in pain and it's not nice for anybody involved." So Childlike...

That's definitely possible. Since metal bending is so common now, your teacher could help teach the earth bending students about metal bending.
