Opinions on Michelle Obama's school lunch nutrition initiative

Ahh okay, I was mistaken. It's still basically a good idea, it just needs to be implemented in a better way then.

I thought that was an old thing because I remember my school cafeteria having a similar deal with required food that just got tossed. And that was in the late 90s/early 00s.

So much bitching in this thread. Because replacing lunches with another lunch apparently equals the beginning of the end, the Illuminati showing up, Napoleon playing cards with Obama, Anti-Spiral manipulating Obama, 9/11 was an inside job, time warping to 1984 and 2012(at the same time), and the Soviets winning

Aside from my rant on how overdramatic people are being, I don't care. I bring my own lunch because school lunch is vile either way. And to those complaining about the replacement of soda with water, deal with it. Water is tasteless, just drink it and bring your own soda if you're that desperate

I don't really see anyone "bitching" in this thread. My point is that forcing kids to take a healthy snack will lead to most of them throwing it in the trash, which is just fucked. If kids wanna eat healthy, than that's fantastic. But don't force food on them that they won't eat, while there are still people starving on the streets.

And yes of course, water is tasteless and essential for survival, I personally love water. But putting water in a vending machine right next to a water fountain is just idiotic. You don't think there are any other healthier drinks than soda they could have put in the vending machine?

Everything tastes like cardboard... And it really isn't helping at all. Sure she changed the lunches, but that is like scratching paint off of a block of metal. Kids practically throw away that kind of food and bring there own. Trust me, I've seen that happen more than enough times.

I am against anything that encourages kids to waste food. And as a skinny guy, I never understood the panic over obesity figures.

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

Yup. And in my opinion, a way to implement this properly is to:

  1. Make foods healthier while still tasting good
  2. If needed, canned food (that has, of course, been taken out of the can) can be served or used to make certain dishes
  3. Left-over food gets donated
  4. Allow iced tea, lemonade, juices, water, and such instead of soda.
  5. Put in snacks that are healthy or at the very least not that bad for nutrition. It tasting good is a must.
  6. Not force kids to get anything in order to get lunch from the cafeteria.
  7. ???
  8. Money saved and less waste.

This is kind of sad then. It sounds like we've actually managed to get a "school lunch/industrial complex". Some company with a contract for making cafeteria food is presented with having to make healthier food, so instead they just bitch and moan to the school board to completely neuter the standards so they can just keep serving the same crap.

  1. Allow iced tea, lemonade, juices, water, and such instead of soda.

As I said before though, juices and iced tea and such aren't necessarily healthy, as cheaply made stuff is going to just be a bunch of corn-syrup anyhow.

I'm starting to envision what happened here: Whoever fills the vending machines was told not to stock things with high-fructose syrup. That person was fucking lazy so they simply removed all the corn syrup based stuff (ie, everything in the vending machine) and didn't bother to find alternatives to replace it.

The britches have been rustled, lol. I am exaggerating with reactions, obviously, but still, the salt is real in this thread. I don't even like Obama's terms all that much, but I highly doubt that this is the prelude to the police state everyone thinks it is(not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, but there is one person who probably agrees with my exaggeration)

Again, I must display my shock and horror at soda being removed. And let's not forget school lunch being changed(which was vile before) into something just as vile. Truly, there are no depths to which the government won't sink, it's all evidence pointing to the Reptiloids taking over
