Discovery Dream 592 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 So, my parents don't believe in bronies. Well, they know they exist, but they don't think anyone actually enjoys the show for what it is. I've tried to convince them but they just won't listen. So, bronies, do you really like the show? Or are they right, we're all just ironically watching it to be funny? no rest for the wizardly. Aureity 3,055 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 Look at all the brony-generated content around you. You think we spend this much time on fanfics, fanart, RPs and more just to troll? 20 A lil' Catherine <(^.^)>

Eenohay 318 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 I do like the show. I don't deny that many people became a brony just to be funny/weird/cool, but in the end that's why many people like many things. I mean it's true I wouldn't watch the show if I hadn't followed a fanbase, but I certanly do enjoy it for real.

Marcato 2,143 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 Its amazing. The show is actually really good. it teaches good life morals and is designed to appeal to many ages. It appeals to younger children by being a cartoon and using lovable animals, and it appeals to older people for its humour, and occasional reference to the outside world or fanbase. (AKA breaking the fourth wall.) In the end, people wouldn't go so far out of their way just to be silly and troll. I for one actually enjoy it and have had occasions where i literally laughed out loud. If they still aren't convinced after reading this thread, i will be thoroughly annoyed, but thats their opinion. Leave them to it if they decide to be stubborn. 2 ~Relax and enJOY life. spas-ticShotty 3,584 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 They sound afraid (and ignorant) that there are people who actually enjoy a show that seems "odd" to them. And I do really like the show. It's a nice, harmless break from all the people I kill in Call of Duty and all the profanity laced humor in Family Guy (I was pretty much the opposite of "Love and Tolerate" before my bronyhood was established in August). I find it neat that something that seemed so pathetic back when I was young (Thanks to G3) is now one of my main interests.

Ron Jeremy 2,032 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 (edited) The fanbase is massive. There are many forums, and the show, music, fan culture, things related to the fandom are discussed on them. The fandom has produced many amazing things. There are many websites devoted to it. Many of us collect merchandise of the show. I don''t think bronies are just some hipster thing. To some people, maybe, sure, I'll buy that. But not all of us. Edited April 3, 2012 by King K. Roop

tejntanga 42 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 I WATCH IT FOR THE PLOT! ... OK, I watch it for the quality animation, genuinely funny dialogue and visual gags, shared in-jokes between the animation team and the fandom... Matackable 534 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 To be honest (and I really mean no offense by this) I think this has got to be the stupidest question to ask ever. Are we genuine? If we weren't genuine about loving this show, then why would we pour so much of our time and hearts into appreciating all of the characters? Why would anyone create remixes of songs from the show? Why would people place time into drawing art and celebrating the shows existence? Why would have Feld0 created these forums? All as some kind of joke? Dude, we all love this show. If no one can fathom why we love this show, then that's just too bad for them. We all have the right to love whatever we want, and our love and appreciation for this show is just as honest and real as anyone else's love for another hobby.

Twi Rubix 726 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 The other clarified, but yeah, bronies are (for the most part) purely genuine. There could be some that just watch it because of different reasons, but that's a small percentage I think.
Nothing392 61 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 Even if it was only hipsters, it would have had to stem from someone actually liking the show. The first Bronies couldn't have been hipster, that would be impossible. They obviously wouldn't say they watch My Little Pony to be cool. So in my opinion, if we're based off a real liking for the show, we do have a real liking for the show.
Tukr 21 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 I love the show because it makes me happy. And its just such a cute show with amazing animation, voice acting, stories, etc. Also i can relate to Rainbow Dash as far as being slightly different from everyone else. I'm not a macho guy that has super high testosterone levels like most guys do. I do have a slightly feminine/soft side to me. But it doesn't make me gay, it just makes me unique and stand out. Kinda how rainbow dash stands out from the other ponies. She isn't all super feminine and has some dude like qualities to her, doesn't make her gay, just slightly different. Guest April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 I for one know there are bronies out there that are not genuine, but i feel for every brony that is not genuine there are many more that are! I love the show for what it is, and trying to tell me I am just a troll would be silly. I think people who make this assumption don't want to believe the show can be that good, they are using it as a denial tool.
Nate 17 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 I love MLP I have to sit watching it on the internet because I have no idea if it can be watched in the UK but I sit watching it for hours and watching whatever I can. I used to watch it when I was younger. Not only that but I've just started collecting figures whenever I can afford them and so far have Rainbow Dash! Warbalist 133 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 What can I say? The show is charming, has good metaphors, constant character development (more so than most adult shows), relatable stories, great animation, great songs and music, and is just an all around joy to watch. More immature stuff comes out of Hollywood every year, c'mon! Besides: Fallout Equestria. http://www.youtube.com/user/warbalist
Sunny Fox 5,952 April 3, 2012 Share April 3, 2012 (edited) So, my parents don't believe in bronies. Well, they know they exist, but they don't think anyone actually enjoys the show for what it is. I've tried to convince them but they just won't listen. So, bronies, do you really like the show? Or are they right, we're all just ironically watching it to be funny? To quote Rarity, that doesn't even make any sense. To watch the show with any regularity in order to be "ironic" would be utter perversity. (Note the difference between "being perverse" and "being a pervert" - there is a major difference there.) One might as well say homosexuals are just trying to be "ironic". Not that I am in the slightest attempting to imply that being a brony is the same as being gay, but let's face it, there are certain parallels. In both cases, it's an admission that takes a certain kind of bravery, in the face of social disapproval; the fact that social disapproval exists at all; and the fact that in both cases, people in either group are not going to just go away because some people disapprove of their lifestyle choice. For the sake of balance, I will add that one could hardly object to MLP on religious grounds, as one perhaps could in the case of homosexuality, depending on one's belief system... (Anyway, major tangent - back to the point) Anyone who watches the show regularly and claims to do so ironically is probably only trying to hide the fact that they are bronies - from themselves, or others. PS - I hope nobody will be offended or take my words in ways I did not intend. Please PM me if you disagree with me or find yourself insulted by this.
