I haven't played the game myself but I have played the one before it and have heard much about it.

What you can expect is an expansive world with hundreds of hours worth of things to do in a beautifully crafted world. Every dungeon is hand-crafted so none of them are generated through a computer.

The thing with Elder Scrolls games is that, unlike games like Final Fantasy, the world itself, the many scrolls and books you read, the sidequests as well as the main story all create the world. The deal with Elder Scrolls games is that they are 90% sidequests. If you play the game just to beat it you'll get an underwhelming amount of time out of it so it's suggested by many to try to do as many sidequests as you possibly can for both story and equipment purposes.

The game has often gotten 9's and 10's on big review sites and is considered by many to be one of the best games this entire generation, if not the best.

Heres an awesome full out detailed review!
Its completly worth it! One of my favorite games on my xbox 360! I've played it for so long! Its an amazing game! You should definetly get it!

The game has an amazing leveling up system unlike Bethesda's other games such as the Fallout Series. You get to fully customize your character to turn out just the way you want them! The sound track and graphics are absolutetly amazing! Theres so much to talk about so just watch the review! Edited by Jibus

Meh. Its got one good playthrough, then it's boring and repetitive. WAYYYYY overhyped, the "endless" variety of quests is just fetching 10 *insert common misc. object here* The storyline is rather dull, and i cannor bear another playthrough. With Fallout and Oblivion, i could replay yjem ENDLESSLY.

I tend to take the high road, get stoned, and fly low . . .

In my opinion, Oblivion was a little better. I got bored with Skyrim really quickly for some reason...

I had the same issue. I mean, the storyline was fun for me to play through and some of the side quests were really, really good but at the end of the day all of the quests that were left were just too samey. I preferred the original, fun quests that Oblivion had.

Still, that's just my view so feel free to go ahead and play the game. I did spend a lot of time playing it through before I got bored so it is still a decent game.

What price are you buying it at?

It's not worth $70,

the graphics are fantastic,

and some of the quests get too repetitive though (which can lead to boredom)

but it's good for non-serious rpg gamers,

and if you're use to fps (which I don't like)

I suggest playing it.

~

edit: what can you expect from a rpg game that is made for the 360 and PS3 though?

Skyrim is a worthwhile game to play, that's certain enough. Whether you should buy it or not depends on how much you like open world RPG's and if you could possibly rent it first or not (which, if on PC, you obviously can't). If you've played Oblivion then you know a lot of what to expect with this one, as not much has really changed, mechanic-wise. Skyrim is a much more varied world than Cyrodiil was as far as the environment, but quests tend to be overdone repetitions of ones you've already done before.

Expect the main quest to take you roughly six hours to complete, at the most, if you focus on it. Then there are a few guilds and a couple of quarreling factions which make for the game's meatier sidequests. Other than that, the game is pretty bare-bones on content unless you're just a die-hard completionist.

On the plus side, getting into the 'mage's guild' in this one is much less of a chore than in Oblivion, so there's that.

If you like RPG's, especially if you liked Oblivion, I would recommend trying it.

I really enjoyed it, but being from Bethesda it's similar to a lot of other games they've made in the same category. So if you liked Fallout 3, Fallout: NV, or any other elder scrolls you'll like Skyrim. The quest do get repetitive but it's a sandbox game as well, So you can do pretty much anything you want really. Most of all depending on the system you buy it on differentiates the game style, if you get it on console, well it may get boring after a few play throughs, If it's through steam you'll have a vast database full of user created spells and items as well as some quest mods all free of charge so it extends the life of Skyrim greatly.

After buying it i am not so sure its worth the money, at first when i downloaded i was impressed by the detail of things and how much time some people wasted in it but soon it started getting slightly boring since i believe combat was kinda simple and repetitive.

I am not sure its worth 60

Please tell me you aren't suggesting he pirates it.

Downloading doesn't necessarily mean pirating. But yes, I think Platnium Rock is suggesting to pirate it.

I liked Oblivion so much more, I got bored so quick that I don't even know what I was doing. To be honest I thought I should have got the synthesizer I was wanting for my birthday instead of Skyrim after playing it for a bit.

I greatly enjoyed it. There's a ton of stuff to do, if you want to take the time to do it. The combat is fairly basic, but it works well and is fun. It has nice graphics and shouldn't be an eye sore. The main quest line is a bit short, but you can make it drag out however long you want and after you beat it you can continue to play the game. There's hundreds of dungeons and things to go through, and a lot of them have their own little side-stories and lore to go along with them. All in all there's definitely enough content there to make it worth the price, but it really boils down to how much time you feel like putting into it. I have 55hrs on it right now (not a lot compared to some) and probably haven't even done nearly half of the stuff in it, but i personally got a bit tired of playing. When i do pick it back up though i enjoy it.

It is a decent game unless you are looking for a challenging game (i find it way too easy on master difficulty), but don't get it on console as you might and probably will encounter bugs that want to ruin your game (i did, 2 quests messed up real bad). That is where the developer console might save you as long as you figure out how it works.

Pirate PC version, get mods, everypony wins.

But for realz, yea this game is worth the money. There's enough to do to keep you entertained for at least 50~ish hours. That's much more than the 5 hour story modes games have nowadays.

I have not yet purchased Skyrim, but I do plan on playing it eventually, given that I thoroughly enjoyed Morrowind and Oblivion. I have been vacillating on when to get the game (sometimes I think I should get it relatively soon, and other times I feel that I should wait for a longer period of time), but I will own it one day.

I am sure that expansions will also be later released for this game, so such things should provide additional content when I have exhausted a good deal of the replay value of Skyrim.

De omnibus dubitandum.

lol but if he were to buy it used, from a publisher's perspective its the same thing! :P

But yeah to avoid getting the thread shut down let's NOT talk about that...

But I do recommend buying Skyrim. It is seriously one of the only games I bought recently and felt fully satisfied with the $60 spent.

Games like that are getting harder to come by *sigh*

Forget Skyrim, wait for Xenoblade(if you have a Wii that is)... or get both, then you'll have 2 great but very different open world RPGs! :D But if you can only get Skyrim then I guess you should go for it... ;)
