woman in the OP is just being a dumb bully. She thinks a guy with a pony on their t-shirt isn't gonna fight back and she's mad about her nephew's choices so she wanted a shouting match. This happens all the time online, and they just want that reaction, either tearful or mad, and then it makes them feel better, friggin vampires  

There's a slight possibility she's doing it sincerely, in which case 90% of the time you can sit down with them, hear their grievance and talk it through. It'd go something like this: "Ponies are an internet fandom which embraces girly things because girly things can be badass. Some of us are queer, it's true, and your nephew may be that, but many of us aren't. We're a friendly bunch and the show is awesome. Give us and it a chance."

The way I would just feed right into what she was saying and make the situation a million times worse. Yes I do worship Satan. He's my daddy. Problem?
