Why don't you just buy it?

I know with some people they are afraid of others knowing their bronyness. They don't buy the DVDs because their parents wouldn't let them, they don't have Netflix, etc. Thats why some people pirate. I admitt I have watched a pirates season 1 but have been trying to buy the show off iTunes despite the horrid prices. Any suggestions for me to get my hands on cheap legal stuff for a closet brony?

Keep an eye on e-bay.  Used DVDs can be found there cheap pretty often.  Have it sent to a friend or to a local Post Office general delivery.  Better yet, come out.  Write an essay on why you're a Brony and give it to your parents.  Parents usually come down on kids for stuff because they want their kids not to get hurt or messed with or perverted.  If you present them with a picture of what MLP means to you, they may just be OK with it.  Hiding from them only alienates you and makes them suspicious.  Not a good situation. I speak from experience - no, there was no MLP when I was a kid, but the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were seen by many parents as a threat to National Security - or at least as a malign influence.  But we eventually worked it out...

I'm waiting for the blu rays. The quality is extremely different. Trust me. I bought equestria girls on blu ray which included the dvd. I watched both and it really shows. The clean lines become much less clean. Mlp is so appealing to watch in HD, which how it's available on netflix and online. Dvds don't cut it and are too exoensive for an "at the moment" alternative.

As for buying digital copies off itunes or amazon, I'm not a fan of digital downloads for movies. It'd be a cheaper "at the moment" alternarive, but it'd still be quite a bit. Idk why hasbro won't release thr blu ray versions. I know some countries have blu ray mlp episodes. Germany, I think, sells them. I guess kids wont care, but adventure time and regular show has blu ray seasons available and those shows are for kids.

Nope, watching without paying is just watching a video. To be a pirate you need to find illegal free downloads and put them on your system, either by  torrent or direct download. Then your cable company will usually send to you a letter like they did my friend. Don't do it!

Ive got almost two TB worth of content. The only warning Ive ever received, was sent with regard to a documentary. Said documentary was about and produced by a company that produces porn.

The notice was sent by a third party that exists soley to troll ignorant people out of their money with toothless copyright notices. They send to your ISP and they forward it from there.

Yeah, we binned that notice.

The ISP doesn't care, they're just making sure they cant be named in some BS scatter shot litigation. They've done their part and wagged their finger, all good.

Run Tor and a couple proxies if you're really worried. Otherwise, eh, not really worth worrying about.

I will confess to having watched the first couple (few?) seasons of MLP on youtube, where no money went to anyone who created the show, because doing anything to buy any part of it would have meant my family could find out, and that was something I realllllyyyyy didn't want to have happen. I pretty much hid everything from my family back when I lived with them in an attempt to keep the peace.

I am very much not here to say that watching things without paying for them is good, but I will say that in my case it did work out in the company's favor. I watched the first 2-3 seasons without giving Hasbro anything for it, but that made me a fan. Once I moved out, I did start contributing. A lot. I bought a t-shirt, and a plushie, and lanyards and keychains and other stuff, and I started using my Netflix service to watch literally everything MLP, all the episodes several times and both movies. I even got other people into it, essentially giving them more customers. That ends up being a lot more money to Hasbro than what they would've gotten if four years ago I decided I couldn't watch MLP because I couldn't buy episodes.

So I guess my stance is this. If you don't have the means of buying those first few episodes of a show, then you can still find a way to watch them for free, but when you become a fan of something, you should support it. Pay the shows you love back honor-code style.

Catching it on TV is better than watching it online(buffering), via Netflix(cost), or DVDs(still, cost). All you have to pay for TV entertainment is cable/extra channels. So financial abilities are most likely the issue.

I only watch MLP online because I don't have The Hu- I mean Discovery Family on my TV. You can't watch new episodes on a DVD that hasn't came out yet. Also, not everyone has the money for the DVDs when they do come out. I'm actually getting a job pretty soon, so I might buy seasons 1-4 on DVD. Maybe. I don't think it matters if your money was spent on merch or DVDs. It goes to them either way.

Ok I see what you mean. My parents aren't exactly the accepting kind when it comes to new things. They tried every way possible to find something wrong with it with their new claim being that the show is bad because it started on fourms and 4chan. They refuse to let me get Merch because it's a girly object on a male so I can't really support hasbro like that even though I tricked them into getting me a Discord shirt which sadly is not official Hasbro. If they caught me watching it on a dvd or Netflix I would be doomed.

The cheapest way would be to buy it in the store. Hide it under your bed or something.

It sounds like the dvds aren't available in a lot of regions, and the full season sets are only available off of Amazon. I bought them, but I do wish they were more widely available, and I also wish they were available on blu-ray. I guess it doesn't really matter that much, as long as I have the show in a physical format, but even though it's animation I would still rather have it on blu-ray. The show still looks great on dvd, mind you. If I lived in other regions it sounds like owning the show might not be without its challenges.

I bought Netflix so I could watch my ponies legally. My DVD player broke and I don't have the money to repair/replace it, and I also don't have the money to buy every new MLP DVD. Dude, for someone in my situation, Netflix's the best deal.

Something to note: If we let there be exceptions of any sort then those exceptions will create serious problems.

"If the Swedes don't have to pay to watch it, then why should I have to?"

No matter how you try to spin it there is a problem with any type of piracy for any reason.

I can kind of see your point but if it wasn't for people pirating episodes by putting them on sites like Youtube than many of us wouldn't have been able to watch it in the first place. Discovery Family or the Hub as it was once known as is one of those extra channels that is not offered in a basic cable package and even basic cable is a complete and total ripoff. And as others have pointed out it is not available in every region and for some ungodly reason there are some differences between US and other regions media playback standards which I honestly think shouldn't even exist. When I first watched the show I watched it on youtube and then the Hub/Discovery Family and later started buying the DVD's and I am probably not the only person who has done this.

True but when you pay for the membership you're supporting netflix, not hasbro.

Actually, you're supporting both.  You think Hasbro allows Netflix to market their product for free?

The good news is, HBO has announced a decision to offer stand-alone streaming.  So you wouldn't have to go to a cable vendor to get HBO.  If they actually do it, other channels will follow.  One of those that does is very likely to carry MLP FIM.  We may have to wait awhile for it, but it's coming - bet on it.

As for me - old fossil that I am, I will wait for the season 5 DVD...  It'll be my second Xmas.

Removing it? It would be a good start if they actually put the show on the European Netflix first! :P

But yeah, as was mentioned the DVD marketing for Ireland and UK seems to be all over the place. Its mostly box sets of certain episodes rather then just the season box. I'd imagine they are available, they just seem difficult to come across, at least in my experience.

Hasbro get paid either way, true.

But not the writers, producers, directors, voice actors, etc. They are likely to be being paid a small upfront fee, plus royalties. This means they get paid more if the DVDs sell, and each time the show is broadcast on TV. They are unlikely to get anything for toy sales.

The issue for me is that in the UK we don't get many MLP DVDs, and I only like to buy DVDs of a TV show if it has a full season or at least a lot of episodes on it. And whilst a season 1 box set does exist over here I'm too embarrassed to buy it, but it's not all benefit for those who won't pay and suffering for hasbro, ever since hasbro purged youtube of a large amount of MLP content most of us have had to go to dailymotion. And if you know anything about dailymotion you'll know that it's very insane when it comes to ads (and since I'm considering installing adblock for that one website), so it's not all that great for us who don't pay.

Yes, the DVDs here are rubbish.

Tiny Pop seems to show ponies a few times a day, and they're up to season 4, so not too archaic. My kids watch that channel a lot, having mostly moved beyond CBeebies' target age group. That's my legitimate pony outlet, which I avail myself of whenever possible.

But I've also downloaded MP4 files of all the episodes. That's around 20 GB of pones. I have every intention of doing the same with season 5 to be able to watch it in a timely manner, because based on previous performance, it's likely to be 2016 before it starts showing on Tiny Pop.

I don't think I have that "tiny pop" channel as I assume that's on sky (and my mother isn't a big fan of them) so I don't think there's anyway I can watch it on TV, thanks for trying to help though (again adblock will probably be my best bet).

It's Freeview channel 127. It only became available on Freeview a few months ago, and was initially only shown for a few hours a day, but it now broadcasts from 6 am until midnight.

It is also available on Sky, Freesat, and Virgin.

Correction it's channel 126, and a huge thank you from me but I still have a few issues, for one I can't catch the 7:00 showing because I couldn't easily watch that on weekdays and I'm never up that early on weekends. And I have a huge issue with the idea of my parents watching it or walking in on me watching it. So the only way of me watching it is under the condition that my mother is out and she usually is during the afternoon so I might be able to watch it at 16:00. I also don't like the fact it's on the same channel that airs such shows as that roolie something show and "Clifford the big red dog" because as far as I'm concerned this show is way beyond those in terms of quality and intelligence, but yay I have a legal way to watch MLP now!
