Filthy Rich (Diamond Tiara's father) has reacted negatively to being addressed by the first part of his name in "Family Appreciation Day".

 

Speaking of which, I think that the Rich family proves that Equestrian naming conventions are completely separate from our own (Diamond Tiara's great-grandfather was named Stinking, for crying out loud!). Troubleshoes is far from the worst name we have seen.

That's the problem. "granny" is an absurd first name... Although "stinking" is certainly worse. Case made- all pony names in Equestria are completely arbitrary and meaningless. Unless it's convenient for the plot.

What about a name that eerily predicts your destiny? Take Granny Smith for example. It must have been awkward for her to be addressed as such before she had grandchildren.

According to Ink Rose, her name was origionally Lady Smith. Tthe grannh part was added on later when she litterally became a grandmother. Edited May 5, 2015 by Serenade

When I was young, one of my favorite singers named his kids "Dweezel" & "Moon Unit".  I've got a niece named "Crystal Faith"  I blame the fluoride in drinking water for this.
