Friends Forever #16: Diamond & Silver! xD

It's coming. The grumpiest, bumpiest, sugar-lump-rumpiest issue of Friends Forever like, ever. Because it totally stars the two most wonderful, amazing, wealthy, stupendous, beautiful ponies in Equestrian history.

So for those of you who love being special, and know how embarrassing it would be to be not special (I don't even want to, like, THINK about it), you should totally get this comic when it comes out on May 13.

Kinda interested to see the two get some more character and I particularly like the artist yet at the same time it's still Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, two characters that's hard for me to care about

Amazon and Ebay are taking preorders now for great prices, so I don't know how long they'll last. 

 

Looks to me like this will be about D & S trying to get one up on the CMC. Something they have always failed to do on the show...but maybe, since this is the comic and they're the stars, this time they will finally prevail! 

 

I wonder who the 3rd filly with the magnifying glass is. Maybe it will be a mystery as well!

Not even going to read this one. I can't STAND these two brats. The Pepper cameo is nice though. But some of the ponies look too tall, ESPECIALLY Derpy.

In the last panel it looks like they might be recruiting Archer to be their third.

 

That would tickle me pink as she's my favourite background filly.

Honestly, Diamond Tiara has move on from just being a bitch to being literally mentally ill. She more or less has a pathological hatred of anyone ELSE being happy and is borderline stalking the CMC.

 

I can't even bring myself to hate her now so much as want to get her into a psychiatric ward, she's mentally unbalanced at this point :/

There's an alternate cover floating around that shows Diamond Tiara replacing Silver Spoon's face with her own. Might this be a "villains go shopping" story?

Even Silver Spoon had a "Here we go again!" look on her face when she saw Diamond getting pissed after overhearing the CMC's conversation. Poor filly probably could care less about getting back at those Blank Flanks - she just wants to have tea parties and play dolls with her pal. Heck, she's probably a tad worried about how obsessive Di has become but doesn't have the heart to call her out on it.

I actually enjoyed this one surprisingly enough.

 

Honestly the only problem that really bugs me was the art. And before you question me, I thought the art was great, but at the same time it lacks the facial expressions you'd normally  get from Price, Mebberson, etc.

Yeah, some guy said those foals are them, and I didn't paid attention to the ones further back, thought they were random...... I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T RECOGNIZED THE THREE STOOGES

I have a theory the writers intended to do that, but Hasbro turned it down because of the upcoming Diamond Tiara episode

Even the main series had her being annoyed at DT at least once as far as I can remember, during Pinkie's first song in Pinkie Pride. I supposed the writers wanted to show more of the far drom perfect friendship

Ugh. Did not enjoy this one, will not be paying money to support this comic due to that.

Just... boring. A bland plot, DT and SS aren't that compelling, and the CMC aren't really that enjoyable either. just kind of "there". The only really good thing about this was the artwork, like Pinkie pie's background images (Her as a mermaid was great. Actually, PP in general was a highlight of the comic), and overall it was nice to look at but... past that, very subpar.

A definite dissapointment after the AJ/mayor one and the Fiendship series.

I think the biggest reason this comic was hit and miss for me was the lack of focus on Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon’s characters and a plot that was all over the place. Was this a comic about Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon’s friendship or just a run-of-the-mill Cutie Mark Crusaders' vs. Team Sugar Lump Rumps story focused on Diamond and Silver instead of Sweetie, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo? There were other issues, too, including a sea of Deus ex machinas and other such plot contrivances. The art was nice (although Silver Spoon was off-model) and the chemistry between Silver Spoon and Prancy Drew was adorkable (probably the most enjoyable part of the comic for me), but it really didn’t amount to much and Prancy Drew herself felt shoehorned in.

 

If I were rewriting this story, I'd make a number of key changes. First of all, I'd have it Prancy Drew was an old friend of Silver Spoon's and that the two were friends before Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara were, but that Prancy moved away at some point. Diamond Tiara becomes jealous of the bond Prancy and Silver share, despite having been away for many, many years; thus, Diamond decides to try and drive a wedge between the two because she's afraid she'll lose her best (and only) friend if she doesn't get rid of Prancy somehow. Cut out the bits with the Crusaders' (but let them make a few cameos at the beginning and end) and Filthy Rich - neither of these added much to the story - and focus entirely on Diamond, Silver and Prancy.

 

I'd make Silver Spoon's decision to choose Diamond Tiara over Prancy Drew a bigger deal and have Prancy Drew's anger directed entirely at Silver Spoon. She's furious that Silver Spoon tossed her aside and calls her out for it, compounding her guilt. The comic went the "Diamond Tiara is a manipulative #$@&%*! route" and I see no reason to change this. Have it that while Silver Spoon looks like she's going to cry her eyes out after Prancy Drew storms off, Diamond has a mean little smirk on her face, happy that Prancy Drew is out of the way. Later that evening at the concert, Diamond is feeling very pleased with herself. While she may not like Bluehay Music, she enjoys winning. Silver Spoon, however, is still feeling down.

 

Noticing her friends unhappiness, Diamond Tiara asks her what's wrong. Silver Spoon asks Diamond if she's a good friend or not, since Prancy said she wasn't. Diamond Tiara - while a manipulative #$@&% - is a manipulative #$@&% with a heart. She tells Silver Spoon that she's the best friend a pony could ever have and that Prancy was just jealous that Silver Spoon made a new friend after she left. Silver Spoon's spirit begins to lift and the comic ends with the two doing one final rump bump.

 

I'm seriously thinking of writing this and posting it to FiMFiction. Would anyone be interested in such a story if I did?
