Do People Hate Twilight Sparkle?

There's a lot of people here who has Twilight Sparkle as their 'waifu', so I highly doubt many people would.

Actually, I don't see the big deal about her being a Alicorn.

On a related note, is Twilight Sparkle pancake?

Yes. Yes I believe that she is in fact a pancake. This is cannon.

Actually I'm adding to that. That scene and the recounting of her obsessive helping by her friends invoked the Season 1 and 2 aspects of Twilight that many loved. Her flaws and fears were on display here. So what gives?

I maintain that any annoyance isn't due to MMC because she hasn't really changed as a character. I think it is more her redistribution in the show. Over time the show has become more of an ensemble focused cartoon - something that was begun in Season 2. It was noticeable last season as well. Twilight has yet to have a true solo episode this season (Castle Sweet Castle was ensemble). In Rainbow Rocks ... where her old characteristics were still on display ... she was not really the focus as much as she was in EqG.

I submit that the neighsayers don't dislike Twilacorn .... they want more of her.

I don't know about fans hating her, but Twilight Sparkle has been my favorite character since the very first episode. I love her even more since she became Twilight Sparkle, The Princess of Friendship. It couldn't have happened to a nicer pony!

I haven't seen much hate for Twilight, she's like Lisa Simpson, except she's not usually annoying (And I like Lisa in the episodes she isn't overly annoying). If any of the mane 6 get hatred it's usually either Rainbow Dash or Rarity.

1. Because her becoming a princess came at the cost of her character flaws and nearly everything else that once made her relatable (at least to me).

I see it as character growth, flaws are meant to be confronted and overcome, she's nowhere near perfect, she still makes mistakes and has lessons to learn all the time. Just because she doesn't lose her mind over every little thing anymore doesn't mean she's a bad character.

2. Because she wields magic with extreme recklessness and brushes it off like it's nothing, simply because it's rare for an episode to call her out for any wrongdoing whatsoever because the writers want to maintain her status as a shining beacon of perfection.

Um... she's always done that with little onscreen responsibility, namely because no matter how badly she may mess up, it can always be fixed. She attempted to transmute mice into horses and turned them into some kind of hybrid between the two, but she added a midnight time limit to it. She tried and failed to cast a failsafe spell when Discord returned, but was able to defeat him with the help of her friends. She cast an unfinished spell that completely ruined her friends' lives, but was still able to fix it. People like to quote Twilight's use of magic as an example of some kind of "perfection", but the majority of the time, she fails at her intended purpose; Flutterbat or the parasprites being examples, but she still finds a way to fix it ((well, Pinkie fixed the parasprite situation, but still)). People like to quote the breezy-transmutation spell as well, since she didn't get vocal consent for it and it was one of the very few times she cast a difficult spell that went the way she intended. But to that I say, is it really so hard a leap of faith to accept that Twilight's best friends would trust her to know what she's doing and fix it if she messes up? She always has in the past. For me personally, it's a lot easier to accept than some kind of writers/Hasbro conspiracy to make Twilight everyone's best pony.

3. Because she has simply become an objectively worse character since it happened.

Uh, no. I say it's subjective. It's not an absolute fact that Twilight's a worse character, it's your opinion that she is.

*Channels inner Vulcan*

Hate is illogical, especially to a fictional character.

Besides, I think enough time has passed that enough fans have cooled of.

I don't even want to look at the Princess Twilight drama.  So Twilight is a alicorn, but she's still the same Twilight.  Her character to need to grow, she still have flaws as an princess.

Twilight is my favourite of the mane six and even when I became a brony, I liked her, since I can relate to her on many levels. I guess I can understand if some people don't like her due to her personality or alicornhood. That's their opinion and I can respect it but I personally think her becoming an alicorn made me like her even more.  :twi:

Just to clarify: it is not dumb to dislike Twilight because you dont like her as a character. It IS dumb to think that she is somehow worse because she became an Alicorn. As I stated before, her bad character traits are the result of bad writing, NOT the result of being an Alicorn. Though, to also clarify, I dont think making her an Alicorn made her any better, either

I've been indifferent to the Princess Twilight Sparkle change to be honest. She's been one of my favourite characters, and the change didn't even affect it one bit.

In late 2011 or early 2012, about a year before the episode was released, I had a theory that Twilight Sparkle was going to be a princess eventually and transform into an Alicorn. Funny enough, it would become true a year later.

As much as I genuinely dislike "Magical Mystery Cure" (the whole Cutie swap thing still bugs me - damn that Starsquirm!), I actually grew to like Twilight more after she went princess.  I don't hate any of the Mane Six, and I'll never understand the people who stubbornly cling to their hatred of colorful, friendship-loving, world-saving equines.  If watching MLP:FIM genuinely elicits that sort of emotional response from you...  Why watch it at all?  Go mingle with those generally awful bipedal creatures that dominate the planet. xD

I don't hate her.  In the beginning, I liked her and sympathized with her character for her traits.  Now, now I have an extreme dislike of what the writer's have turned her into, either forced by Hasbro or because McCarthy wanted it that way.

If Twilight had received the combined powers of Cadence, Celestia, and Luna, transformed into an alicorn that way, and defeated Tirek, I would accept her alicornhood with open arms.  She would have done a great deed and earned her rightful place among the princesses.  Instead, we get a slapped together, song and dance episode where she screwed up a spell and gets rewarded for fixing her screw up.  I know many point to what has happened in the past, but Twilight only achieved those actions through the combined effort of her friends.  Without them, she would have failed.

If fix a spell is all it took, why didn't she become a princess when she screwed up then fixed her mistake in the 3rd episode of S2 with that Want It Need It spell? These shenanigans of "she made a new spell" and what not are, imho,  ridiculous.

It is what it is right now.  Until I see something to change my mind, I don't believe McCarthy one bit about Twilight not outliving her friends.  Not to mention S4 was a big slap in th face in terms of toy promotions.  I still shutter at the Princess Twilight Sparkle S4 E1/E2 episode titles and Twilight's Kingdom.

She's closer to perfection now than she has ever been. What little mistakes she does make are typically minor enough that she doesn't get called out for them. The mane five certainly haven't seen anywhere near the amount of "character growth" that Twilight apparently received the moment she was made an alicorn.

For me personally, it's a lot easier to accept than some kind of writers/Hasbro conspiracy to make Twilight everyone's best pony.

Well, I think it's next to impossible to not see how superior she looks when compared to the mane five. After all, she's not the one who spends the season learning from her (non-existent) mistakes, and instead she's the one who gets to have the "epic" laser battles while the mane five simply sit helplessly on the sidelines.

Also, it's not necessarily a conspiracy. It's simply a natural progression which followed making Twilight an alicorn princess. Hasbro also wanted to make her the most appealing character on the show by making her appear better than her friends in every conceivable way.

Uh, no. I say it's subjective. It's not an absolute fact that Twilight's a worse character, it's your opinion that she is.

Fair enough. I should have said "arguably", but I was in a bit of a rush this morning.

Those have to do with writers writing her badly, they do not inherently have to do with her being an Alicorn.

I highly doubt it's just a coincidence that I only started disliking her after she became an alicorn.

Actually thats EXACTLY what it is: a coicidence. Like i said earlier, her negative traits are the result of poor writing. If they were better writers, they would have been able to have Princess Twilight Sparkle the Alicorn just as fallible and endearing as the original Twilight Sparkle the Unicorn. Wings and a slightly more bulky frame do NOT inherently make a character worse. What makes a character worse is, like i said before, Bad. Writing.

Honestly, it didn't bother me in the slightest. There isn't anypony I could think of who's more worthy of being crowned princess than her. She's worked hard for this and it helps that her family is somewhat part of the royal family.

Nope. I'll never dislike her because as far as I can tell, she's a friendly pony that isn't perfect.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

I honestly love Twilight Sparkle, she's my waifu and I relate to her in a lot of ways, we're exactly alike, so I can see why people hate Twilight, but I don't.

My friend hated (strongly) Twilight before and after she became a princess.  I don't really remember exactly why, but something about how she has too much attention on the show and seems to have an aura of being "too important" or something like that.

But how do you hate

*raises hand*

I certainly didn't use to, though, but I now like her considerably less since she became a princess.

Agreed, agreed. But I used to like her - before transformation. Honestly, I think that's the mane reason why I had stopped watching FiM

though I may or may start watching it again just for some BG ponies
