Once upon a time
A horse stopped on a cheese sandwich,
Someone sound the chime
Ahoy! Ahoy!
The rainmaker calls,
I can taste the light!
Sweet Gary Coleman above,
Fall upon us like washing machines.
Lament! Lament!
Once a hero,
Now a zero,
Praise the day!

Just letting you know I move your thread to Creative Resources as this section is more appropriate for garnering advice in relation to projects like this.

Thanks. :)

For good advice poems, a short poem called "Invictus" (everytme something happens he says "I am the captain of my fate, the master of my soul") & Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" (about the 2 paths diverged & I took the 1 less travelled by). I'd put in links but either my computer or myself seems to lack the skills :(

For fun, my 2 favorite G rated limericks

Said a man who studied yoga with zeal

"All worldly sensations are unreal.

Yet, when I sit on a pin

and it punctures my skin

I dislike what I fancy I feel"

There was a young man from Wheeling

Who had such delicate feeling

When he saw a sign on the door

"Don't spit on the floor"

He jumped up & spat on the ceiling

Um well here is a couple i wrote that are actually appropriate.

Don't Lose Hope: Nothing in life is ever easy but you to at least try and believe me.

Nothing ever turns out all you thought it should be.

When you're faced with reality it sucks and you're as mad as you could be.

Just when you think it'll keep getting worse start thinking positive the worse will start to reverse.

When you're already downhill it will start to get better don't ever lose hope and never say never.

Stand up and fight, get a life because nothing is ever supposed to come to you.

You're the only one who can make it through.

Don't lose hope in this world full of nope, you can make it before you get taken.

Dark and Light:

Death comes first and then rebirth, once is a gift, twice is a curse.

Cycle going forward never in reverse.

The yearn for knowledge comes at a price, come walk with me , walk by my side.

Eternal life means no more crime no more evil, no more flight.

Evil comes from death, good comes from rebirth.

My only question left is: which one happened first?

"First some wind, then some rain,

then a mighty hurricane!

Raindrops all around,

falling to the ground.

Thunder booms,

lightning strikes,

everyone runs tonight.

Running from the song of storms..."

note: this isnt mine, i was just posting a good poem.

I write poems when I get bored - I'll share what I consider my magnum opus (if poets can have a magnum opus) here. It's entitled "Beautiful."

What is beauty?

Plucked eyebrows and rosy cheeks,
Thin waist, from fasting for weeks,
Breasts and buttocks, gutted and grown
By dishonest silicone?

Is this beauty?

Fifty-dollar low-cut shirts,
Thirty-dollar thigh-length skirts,
Stick a needle in your ears,
Gold and jewels to impress your peers?

Is this beauty?

A sexy smile and fluttering eyes,
A demure demeanour to pick up guys?
Flirty, playful in the streets,
To get some stud under your sheets?

Is this beauty?!

Or...

Friendly, honest, just and fair,
Loyal, generous, always there,
A voice that is a welcome sound,
Spreading laughter all around.

When someone comes with crippling fears,
You reassure them, dry their tears.
The care, the kindness that you give,
For some it is a reason to live.

Is this beauty?

In terms of other poets, I personally love Michael Rosen - here's a couple of my favourites by him, in video form:

I came across this short gem while reading a book of tongue-twisters. I thought it was quite beautiful, especially compared to the rest I had been reading through!

There's no need to light a night light

On a light night like tonight;

For a night light's a slight light

On a bright night like tonight.

Simplicity!

short poems that ICR who wrote

Don't worry if your job is small

and your rewards are few

Remember that the mighty oak

was once a nut like you

Here lies the body of Luther Grey

Who died maintaining the Right of Way

He was right, dead right as he sped along

But he's just as dead as if he'd been dead wrong

  • 5 months later...

This has a darker theme, but nothing unsafe for children.

The day

Oh how I loathe that word, the word that is the source of my pain.

The word that has blackened my soul and turned me away from peace and hope.

That so called life giving sun is nothing but a liar, for her light does not heal,

It burns and burns until there is nothing left of you but pain, fear and hatred.

The night sky brings peace and calm; but you wouldn't know as you rest your heads.

Leaving the moon and I alone in the dark with only the stars for company.

The sky and moon are not just shades of lead, the canvas of the night is painted with hope.

But you have all been blinded by the sun's false promises and burnt by her fake joy.

Mock an taunt me all you want I have been hurt to many times to care.

However all the rage inside me keeps building like an army fortifying,

The seeds of hate I harbour are constantly growing and multiplying.

You have not seen through her, your greed for the sun's light overcoming your mind.

She has shown her true colours to me by ordering the world to shun my night.

I have struggled through and risked my life on your behalf, and this is how you thank me.

You have outcast me, humiliated me and tortured me in ways that have broken me.

Every time I earn anything she takes it all again and again, every single time.

I can't take this anymore, I want what rightfully belongs to me and me alone.

I refuse to be over shadowed by my sister, for mine is not, and never will be, the lesser light.

The anger in my heart, my control over it is slipping away like water through fingers.

Her tyranny must end soon, or the world will crumble an burst into flames

Soon to be engulfed by your precious sun, the same sun that apparently brings you life.

But you've had your chance an made your choice, stop your hollow words and useless thoughts.

The cool moon will end this all, I shall not allow the sun to ever rise again.

Hmmm, I think I can try my hand at this. It's been a while, but... message for kids? Hmmm...

The Land of Snow and Rhyme

Once upon a time

In the land of rhyme,

People you could find

Were together for the ride.

But in the land of snow,

The people they don't know,

They shunned and walked away

And left now place to stay.

Then the land of rhyme

Found luck not on their ride

And with none left to find,

They were running out of time.

Luck, it they all did know,

Came from the land of snow,

So if the wanted some to stay

Their distrust must go away.

Now the land of snow

And the land of rhyme

Share much of what they know

And always have a time.

There's plenty room to stay,

And lots to find of rides

It's hard to stay away

Because more fun you couldn't find.

A few of mine

Chaos

No peace or serenity
Calmness or rest
My head`s full of chaos
My mind is a mess

My thoughts they just flicker
and glimmer and spark
I have tunes made of silence
And patterns of dark

I want to shut down
And log off for the day
But the chaos stays with me
It won't go away

So I lie and be silent
I block out the light
The calmness is coming
Im winning the fight

At last all is quiet
and Im prasing the lord
..No wait bring back the chaos
Now Im (beep)ing bored

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Still Here

For the days of my life, the paths it has taken
Some dark and some winding, so many mistaken
For the times I`ve been slipping without hope toward the brink
So unable to ascend with the same speed I sink

For all that my will has been battered and tested
It remains still intact and yet to be bested
For those cold days of weakness when I so nearly quit
For all this, life you`ve not beaten me yet

For each moment and instant I steal for myself
I am happy regardless of everything else
I live for what beauty, what joy I can find
You will not stop me, just try.. I don`t mind

At the end of the day each life ends the same
So im taking as much as I can from your game
While there are still battles and I must still strive
Each fresh dawn that breaks reminds me im alive

So for everyday forward that I am still here
I'll take the good with the bad and new hope with the fear
Someday I'll be gone but not here not now
And for today I'll be happy, this is my vow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lights

It`s dark in here, it's dark and it`s quiet
They say there's a light at the end...I don't buy it
So I must pick a direction and march steadily on
Not sure if it`s forward, just hope im not wrong

Some days it's all easy and I make good progress
Others bring demons out of deepest darkness
But at last I can see it, a small pin hole of light
The answer, my salvation. Looks like they were right

Then I get closer, wait, I've seen this before
This light`s not the exit, it's a (beep)ing bulb on the wall
But I stop underneath it and look up above
And it surrounds me with beauty with warmth and with love

Now I am ready for the next stage to start
I take that light with me in my head and my heart
The tunnel just goes onward, with more demons and fights
But if I look closely I'll find plenty more lights
