What are you supposed to do with a bible?

If there are bibles, or other forms of divine scripture/ laws in your religion- assuming you have one- no matter what it is- then what do you do with it? Are they forbidden to read, or are you allowed/ encouraged to read them? Are they something to be studied, like homework, and put considerable amount of research and meditation into to better understand? Should it be?

Well as I see.. it and old book that people clam they wrote it.

Now I know that my picture say other wise but... the bible is more of a guide to be good ...(in away) but its also the tales of where true evil lives and feeds on us mortals.

To me the bible is knowledge is a way to unite us all and a way to be decent to are fellow man but us mortals are not able to see what its try to say due to are darkness in are souls and are way to interpret it is always wrong fit are needs and wants so where not ready to work together and live peace..

I mean the way I use my bible is to swear loyalty to the higher up and thank him for what I am and what I got.

Or still its an old book where people us it like a toy to say it fit there needs and wants to say your wrong and I am right.

Well the Bible (atleast, in Christianity), is supposed to guide people on how to live their life good.

But I like to actually read it for the interesting stories in it. :P

We currently study the Bible in art class, in order to make some religious paintings.  :D

Well, when you have a Bible, you read it. Just like any other book. Just like any tool, it can be misused though.

If you read it so as to learn and study about God and all the good things He's done and has in store for you and you use that knowledge to guide your life, that is good.

But, if you use it as a way to back up an opinion by cherry picking only the verses you want, that is misusing it.

I see the Bible like any other tool. An important one, but a tool nonetheless. If anyone wants to read it then they are free to do so and I'd even encourage it :D

Aren't you supposed to read books?

I don't know, sometimes i also use my books to kill of flys that fly around my room, so maybe that also helps.

Why would you be forbidden to read it?
Why have a bible at all if you can't read it, seems silly >.<

Not religious at all atm, back when I was I read part of it.  Might possibly try and read through all of it when I get the time though, somewhat interesting.

Not really sure what else you'd do with it tbh xD

Well, when I was a Christian I read it every night, kind of in a fevered state because I felt I had to after a chapel visit from the Gideons. Ended up reading through it a couple times that way over the years, high-school mostly. Come University it was regarded as a pretty fundamental book as a lot of poets and authors allude to stuff in it, but the angle on it was MUCH more casual. It was a book. With ancient stories, often with moral dilemmas and lessons, kind of like fables. Throughout university I started to regard it more as that and not-so-much as the divine word of a vengeful and jealous God. Now I'm an atheist, still have it on my "read" shelf and I think back on its stories sometimes. I'm glad I have it in my mental lexicon but the circumstances by which it got there weren't exactly ideal. Maybe I'll read it again with a cooler head someday but its a hefty one.
