It's a show about multi-colored horses learning the values of friendship.

No, it occurred first to me why I was watching the show when I watched the first episode. But when I found out that I loved it, I did not give it really a second thought :). You like what you like :)

Cartoons have the right to be flat out weird. But this was originally a show for little girls, so I would presume that they wouldn't have thought about it's 'weirdness' much, albeit a bunch of teens and adults are watching and criticizing.

"Pay attention to these petals, Steven. The petals' dance seems improvised, but it is being calculated in real time based on the physical properties of this planet. With hard work and dedication, you can master the magical properties of your gem and perform your own dance!"

What do you think of me?:

My favorite videogame is about a lab rat that breaks the laws of physics and works with a computer designed to be an idiot to defeat a malevolent computer, all in a vault miles underground.

My second favorite videogame is about four children who use the power of prayer and friendship to defeat an eldritch horror bent on destroying the Earth, and is doing so from 10 years in the past, and is accompanied by a fat kid in a robotic spider.

My fourth favorite videogame lets you duke it out, choosing between two plumbers, a fat guy, a princess, a magical princess, a pigman-turned-man, an electric mouse, a living balloon, a blue robot, a teenager with a huge sword and no clothes, an angel, a black angel, a sarcastic goddess, a pink puff ball, a penguin with a hammer, a 2-dimensional jack of all trades, a teenage boxer, a guy in a green tunic, a giant turtle, a small turtle who rides in a clown head, a monkey with a gun, a kid with magical powers, an anthropomorphic fox who shoots lazers, and much more.

My favorite TV show is about two kids who get sent to their creepy uncle's house and find all sorts of weird stuff in the woods such as gnomes dressed as zombies, masculine minotaurs, and a really weird old guy, and their enemy is a triangle.

I don't think this is quite as weird by comparison.

yea. actually, lately I might stop and just say, "I don't know why but I LOVE this.". It's weird to me but where it used to feel weird to watch a 'little girl's show', I feel totally in the right place. It's just like watching Adventure Time or any other show aimed at that audience for me (which I also love, btw)

still gotta hide it from the fam tho

In the past I have liked and still like a video game series about a slightly overweight Italian plumber and his brother using mushrooms to get bigger, flowers to shoot fireballs, stars for temporarily invincibility along with various other things. Rescuing a princess from a giant turtle like monster named Bowser who keeps coming back no matter how many lava pits he falls into. A cartoon about mutated talking turtles learning martial arts from a mutated talking rat who all live together in a sewer and battle other mutants, aliens (included a talking brain in a robot suit) and a crime lord named The Shredder.

And countless classic cartoons that give a huge middle finger to the laws oh physics such as Loony Toons cartoons for example by having characters crushed with anvils, blow up, shot and even falling off cliffs and yet being able to get back up from them as if nothing happened. If you think about it a lot of things that people usually don't question are actually quite strange. That is a good thing though as life would be boring and kind of depression without a few things that are a tad strange and usual. With that list and many others a show about cartoon ponies is not exactly the strangest interest I have ever had by a longshot. Toward the beginning though I did ask myself that question a lot though and while it occasionally crosses my mind I usually don't give it a second thought.

I do sometimes find myself marveling at how instead of watching Game of Thrones, or Breaking Bad, or one of the other intense, popular television shows that so many of my friends watch, I'm raving about the latest episode of a show featuring magical, colorful unicorns who occasionally break into song.  And I'm ok with this.

Eh...I've always been into "strange" things, although I sometimes let what other people think get to me too much and I know I shouldn't. People have a right to enjoy whatever floats their boat and shouldn't have to worry about judgement from anyone else. So I like a cartoon about pastel colored ponies (that just so happens to have awesome characters, stories and valuable lessons) So what? Is that really the worst thing in the world? These days I try to be more open and proud of the things I like.

Anyway...

Pretty much this. I still think about iit from time to time, but as long as I'm enjoying it and feel that its not damaging my ability to navigate life, what's the harm?

As others have mentioned, mah parents know nothing and (hopefully) never will.

Did it ever occur to you:

"Why do I like a show about such strange things?"

No.  It didn't.

But there was a sense of novelty, absurdity, rebellion, and excitment for a little while.  Unfortunately for me, it didn't take very long for that to wear off.  Luckily, I still love the show just as much as ever, but I honestly don't feel any different when I'm watching it than when I'm watching Game of Thrones or Big Bang or Seinfeld or anything else.  I forget that it's even a thing to the point where I'll wear my Fluttershy yay shirt out, and actually forget I'm wearing it, and wonder why I get a strange look from some 12 year old boy, and then I think, "Oh yeah, me watching FIM is supposed to be weird, isn't it?"

That has happened to me a couple of times actually except in my case it is either my Applejack shirt or my Twilight shirt.

At first I was a little apprehensive about following the show when I started.

But after a while I warmed up to it and have been following it passionately for right now over 3 years.

So I got used to it and now it really doesn't bother me whatsoever for liking MLP FIM.

Plus once you get on this crazy ride you can never leave.
