The electric craze

Hello everyone, so I've been seeing these things called Segways lately (some people call them IO Hawks, monorover R2's) They're basically a mobility advice. Some call them electric scooters/skateboards.

 

Here's what they look like:

 

I've seen them in white, black, green, red and gold.

 

You control them with balance/motion, and apparently they can hold up to 220 lbs, run about  7-8 mph, and travel about 15 miles before needing to be charged. Has anyone else heard of these? They're everywhere around where I am, and I'm seeing them all over vine. 

 

The one downside is price. Some range around around 300-600, although some people have been lucky enough to get them for around 200. I'm suppose to be getting one soon and just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of/seen them?

That's an interesting design. Most segways I've seen look more like this.

Oh-ho, that's looks like barrels of fun. I've been studying about segways in my robotics class. Apparently, they detect the incline on which the central piece is set, and adjust the speed of the wheels to prevent it (and the rider) from achieving a falling angle.

 

Most come with a handlebar for the driver's comfort.
