Has Pinkie Pie become more serious?

In recent episodes, namly Party Poopers and The lost whatever of Griffonstone, she has become a far more likable character to me.

I used to hate her guts in S1 and S2, after that i only tolerated her. This is because she brought nothing to the show beyond comic relief and slapstick humor. You can argue with me on that, but youll lose.

But in Season 4 (save Pinkie Pride) and particularly season 5, she has become far less nonsensical and takes important matters much more seriously. She still keeps the quirky humor that makes her character, but thinks and adapts to situations in a much more thoughtful way. It has made me appreciate her character far more.

What do you guys think? Has she become a better character thanks to her less nonsensical attitude? Did you prefer her in earlier seasons? Or mabye you think she hasnt changed at all.

Dude, the threads you make are extremely interesting.

Anyway, she used to annoy the hell out of me in seasons 1-2, but in seasons 4-5 she certainly became a lot more serious. And it honestly isn't a bad thing. She's still the fun and lighthearted character that we know, but now she's able to be more serious when she needs to.

On the bolded line, I want to challenge you on that. Pinkie Pie was actually the slapstick comic relief character you hate very much throughout season 4. I disliked how Pinkie Pie in Season 4 when the episodes aren't focused on her was apparently reduced to a one note comic relief character. Pinkie Pride was actually Pinkie's best characterization in Season 4 in my opinion.

As for Pinkie Pie, she's been stellar to the point that if it weren't for Twilight having an even better season in my opinion, she'd probably be the best pony of s5. She has matured seemingly and even are taking a mature angle to her party planning in Party Poopers and even her maligned secondary role has improved tremendously. She has certainly emerged a better pony in s5 in all regards.

I have liked Pinkie Pie almost as long as I have liked Applejack, when I first started watching she was my 2nd favorite pony in large part because she reminds me of my dad (may he rest in peace). I would disagree though that Pinkie Pie's only contribution in older episodes has been comic relief. In season 1 we saw in Feeling Pinkie Keen though that her "Pinkie Sense" ability seems to not make any sense at all that it is like a sort and while it resulted in a lot of random comedic moments did apply the lesson that just because we don't always know the answer to or understand something dosen't mean it dosen't exist or dosen't matter. Also in season one we saw Pinkie Pie demonstrate some rather serious insecurities to the point of having a rather severe mental breakdown in the episode Party of One. This is where people got the inspiration for the alternate fan interpretations of "Pinkamena" that has fueled quite a few creepy pastas and gorefics.

In season 2 we saw Pinkie Pie admit that she thought that babysitting the Cake twins would be easy because it would simply be like extra playtime but that it was a huge responsibility. We saw Pinkie Pie express a bit of immaturity here but grow as character to be more responsible to the point where she became the regular babysitter to the Cake twins. Season 3 was kind of eh for her but season 4's Pinkie Pie episodes were some of the best of the season with Maud Pie being my favorite Pinkie Pie episode partly due to introducing her awesome sister and partly due to its lesson that even if you don't have much in common with someone that you can still care about them and have a sort of understanding. That differences don't need to tear us apart but can in some cases bring us closer together.

How random Pinkie Pie should be or how serious depends on the episode. With Pinkie Pride it was quite warranted actually.

Actually, I beg to differ... except for Pinkie Pride (and maybe a few others), she's been butchered on episodes that aren't focused on her with unamusing and just downright cringy moments. Season 5 has actually been treating her really well; just like how she was previously before she got a strange switch in S4. She did have it in S3 for a bit, but she handled herself together for the most part.

She's my second favorite, so I'm glad that the recent episodes are making her bearable again.

She has had some more insightful moments more recently (such as working out why she and RD were sent to Griffonstone and how to handle the Yak problem), but she did chat up/get chatted up by a statue, and lack of sleep apparently makes her cartwheel - so there is still the fun silly side of her there too

I don't remember the older seasons too well, but I do think she has become more likable. I've always liked her, but season 5 has made her tied in first place as my favorite pony. I wouldn't say she's more serious, she just does more then just comedy stuff then before.

She is definitely a more refined character now. I noticed this shift in season 3 a bit and then that continued through season 4 in parts and now season 5, I honestly think Pinkie has been at her best this season. She is still hilarious, but her character has more depth and she actually cares about very important situations and does what she can to help. I think it has created a nice mix with her personality. I have always liked Pinkie but for some reason she was never in my top 3 for the mane 6, now she is.  I think she just has a lot more focus now other than just 'I'm here to be random and donuts because why yes?'.

Pinkie has never been pure slapstick comic relief. There's depth that has been there all along, only it's shown more now. I like where this character development is going, but I always felt through earlier seasons that there were hints of depths that were never really fully explored.

Pinkie had some good episodes in earlier seasons, Like the Cranky doodle donkey one, but they were few and far between. Season 5 has her consistently being a very though-out, yet still entertaining character.

I have noticed this as well, she's definitely become more serious in that she knows when to truly think a situation out now. She knows when something's up and when to tone it down a bit. In the process the writers have definitely made her more likeable to most fans now :pinkie: Just the Season 5 opening two parter showed a huge change alone, she quickly took note that something wasn't right instead of relishing in all the smiles :)

You're right about that I guess Season 4 Pinkie was no better than S1-3 Pinkie.

Don't admit defeat to me, please. I made an error in the regard that I should've gotten into more detail with your point rather than trying to be an asshole and attack a point solely. I agree with your point that in her episodes, Pinkie Pie has been steadly maturing for the better where while she's still a happy cheerful pony, it seems they're taking her fun loving angle in a different spin where she's shown that it isn't all fun and partying with how much time, resources, competition, and dedication she has to put into her craft to become the party planning pony that she is on the show.

I generally thought that between S3 and S4, the show staff seemed to be satisfied in letting Pinkie Pie being a comic relief when the spot light isn't on her and thus went lazy for it. However, thanks to fan feedback, they did improved her character even in the secondary roles to where she's easily one of the best ponies in S5.

However, I do agree that especially in S4 and S5, her episodes have gotten much more mature and have taken her personality to a new level that we've previously haven't seen in her character before and it's something I appreciate greatly.

I thank you for posting this topic as I view it as a necessity to have a healthy discussion on what we view a character's progress in the series and I encourage you to do more in that regard.

I noticed that Pinkie's character has changed throughout the series, and I like her more serious personality.

I'd actually like to be around someone with her personality, but I'd hate being around someone with the flanderized version of her personality in the episodes where  her character was taken over the top to the point where she doesn't take anything seriously, and is reduced to mere comic relief.

This is funny since people were complaining that she was too silly in season 4.

I've noticed that they seem to have gotten her character more down in season 5. She feels more like a character, especially in her episodes. That was for me one of the strengths of Griffonstone and Party Pooped.

I don't think its so much her becoming more serious as Rerailing her to be more in line with her S1 self. Specifically, in S1, while she was a cloud cuckoolander, she had LOGIC behind her actions. Her actions in swarm of the century made perfect sense, she just didn't explain, and her breaking into song at the trees makes sense in the pilot made sense in her own way. Look at Gilda the brushoff too-- she's cognizant of things like fluttershy being off limit to pranks, and was trying her hardest to be a friend to Gilda.
However, past that the writers Devolved into making pinkie cheap "LOL RANDUMB" humor, in a spongebob Squarepants style, with nothing but her screaming and making non-sequiturs. This cheapened her character and made her much worse for it.

This season, they're trying to focus her back to having a point to her actions, and while she's still zany, she is shown to have rhyme and reason to her actions, yeah? Plus, they're giving a nice view into her inner mental workings, showing that while she's HAPPY, she still is serious about trying to make others happy, which is perfectly in keeping with how she's presented in episodes like a friend in deed's smile smile song.

The fact that they're focusing on how she isn't just a ditz but actually 100% CARES about others is making her drastically better of a character IMO!

The important part of course being that she is able to be more serious in duress. I don't mind if Pinkie acts silly outside combat situations or serious issues.

Come to think of it.. she did change a bit over some seasons didn't she.. if only a little..

If you really think about it though.. a lot (if not all) of them have changed slightly in their behavior, but Pinkie's is a lot more noticeable..
After all, Pinkie has a very different mindset from other ponies.. and some events may have not so much "stopped" her from doing funny
stuff.. but rather being more aware of any repercussions that may occur from those actions.. most of the time..

Another reason for her rather sudden change may be a lesson learned from on of my personal favorite Pinkie episodes: S3E3 - Too many Pinkie Pies
Until the events that followed this episode, she used to try to have fun at every possible opportunity, resulting in many spontaneous and random small

actions at each point.. but since then she learned to sort of.. turn down the pace and have fun at almost ever opportunity :P

Though she may be spontaneous, quirky and humorous.. she also has a slightly serious nature behind her, which shows itself every now and then..

Kind of an odd combination with the 2 sides of pinkie: Serious and Blunt  :okiedokielokie:  + Joking and Spontaneous  But that's Pinkie ⁿ-ⁿ

She also has good morals and especially understanding of the feelings of others.. Which is why she likes to see others happy and smiling  :)
