Bat ponies and Luna's banishment

So I was thinking to myself at work today, when princess luna was banished how were the bat ponys effected? I mean for some of us with batponys OC I havnt found much lore on there history so this might be me just not looking in the right spot but from what we've seen of her and that one time we first saw batponys I think the fandom (us watching the show) made the relationship with batponys and luna. So it brings the question

did they all migrate to a safe hold of some sort?
started there own nation in the bad lands and somewhere else?
or is it our little spot to figer out?

The way I see it is that bat ponies were either created by Luna as servants, or they were regular ponies that volunteered to serve Luna, and chose to be transformed. If this is true, I would assume they faded into nonexistance until Luna made more, or they reverted back to normal ponies, until Luna came back and converted some.

I think there are a normal pony race who lives in a special region of equestria or maybe outside of equestria (and Luna's guards are like mercenaries). I think Luna was searching for the Bat ponies after she came back from her banishment. Another idea is that the Bat ponies live all the time in Canterlot as night guards and work for Celestia in Luna's absence because they are maybe better flier in the night as pegasi.

According to the writers (Faust included), bat ponies are a different race of ponies, who live in caves in the mountains, not created by Moonbutt  . If Equestria was founded by earth poneh, pegasi, and unicorns, if there are bat ponies withing it's borders, I think they are immigrants who made their own small colonies at a later time, but they are recruited at the night guard because they are better fliers at the night, being bats and all

I don't even know where to start with batponies.  Where and why did they become?... I've only ever seen them as OCs. Where did the idea come from? Those guards pulling Luna's chariot? I always just assumed it was a style choice rather then a species. Just trimmed their wingtips a bit differently to match the general motif.           They're not vampires right? Just bat horses? What, if anything, do we have to go on for what a batpony even is? Was giving thought to making a batpony oc in the spirit of October.

 

Ah, but the question I have (As this thread is the closest I can come to its topic)  Is why there is still a Mare-In-The-Moon mark on the...uh, moon? Thought that disappeared when NightmareMoon was cured. Yet I still see it whenever this fandom needs a moon decal, like when this site turns dark for the evening. \
