  1. 1. What are your thoughts on visuals in music on Youtube? (The exception is music videos, pmvs, etc)

    • A picture is just fine. (Like an album cover, what I'm doing now)

    • Maybe a slideshow. (I'm hesistant about this)

    • Audio visuals look very nice!

    • Synthesia! The notes look really nice scrolling down and they help me learn the song better than sheet music.

    • It doesn't matter. I just do something else and only pay attention to the music.

Hello, if you're wondering who I am, I make piano arrangements of songs from MLP and put them on Youtube. I was just wondering what people thought of visuals for music in general. While the music is still the most important part, I've been wondering if pictures and such will keep people engaged more. Normally, I just a make a VERY simple picture that I try to make as appealing as possible (like an album cover). But I've been thinking how should I make the visuals in a youtube video more fancy. Something like an audio visual would be nice but it would be something I have to learn. But I'll find the time to learn it if that's what people want!

Or maybe something like Synthesia. There are so many Synthesia videos right now that making new ones right now probably wouldn't stick out too much. FIguring out how to make Synthesia videos isn't a problem. It's just that sometimes people have already done Synthesia for some songs I'm planning on doing and making videos on the same song would seem like me attempting to copy them.

Anyway, let me know what you think! Feedback is greatly appreciated. Note: My focus will still be mainly on music.

I, being in marching band, enjoy it when music and visuals come together great. I do still enjoy it without visuals. Ultimately, I think that as long as the music is good, people will like it. If you think that working hard on visuals will distract you from the music, don't worry about any visuals. If you think your music will be just as good either way, then add visuals.

Thanks! I did marching band also when I was in high school (I graduated a few months ago). It was a fun time! Although I never got to see myself performing, it looks cool when others do it well! It was a learning curve for me, but I liked it in the end. Thank you for feedback.

I like Audio Visuals ( if i understand correctly what that means ) .

The XBOX 360 had an interesting music screen with colorful effects that change to the music.

I actually played with this screens almost more than with my games. And that without music

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. :) I also did not know the xbox 360 could do that. I checked a video out of it and it looks pretty cool! Although I would probably use something less distracting. Like adding spice to the music instead of the other way around if you know what I mean.

To me visuals are like the toppings on an ice cream sundae. The better the ice cream is, the less the toppings matter, but the more toppings it has, the more it will stand out with first impressions and people may remember you a little more often. You have the right focus in that the music is more important, but investing a little time in extra visuals can add extra publicity to your posts.

If it's a solo instrument or musician, I like a video of the performance. If you do that, you have to put just as much effort into the video as you do the audio. Just a picture would also work for me. I usually just have music playing in a separate tab. I'd suggest using a picture. There's a lot less work in that, so you could focus more on the audio.

Thank you all for your feedback! This is something that I have wondered for quite a bit and this helped a lot. I think what i'll do is learn to do audio visuals. That might take a while, so I might just put decorative pictures until I hone that skill. Thank you all once again!
