general media Odd ways you were introduced to things you liked

Whether it be a game, movie, TV show, book, or etc., we're all introduced to something we ended up loving, sometimes in weirder ways than others. Maybe you saw a fanboy war break out and decided to see what the fuss was about. Maybe you saw....interesting pictures on the internet. Or maybe you saw a funny parody on Youtube.

Case in point, a few years ago I decided to give Gurren Lagann a go after stumbling across a Rugrats parody. In particular-

The show would go on to become my favorite anime and one of my favorite shows in general :P

Share what interesting ways you were introduced. I mean, I'm pretty sure some of you got into Pony in weird ways  :please:

I'd have to think pretty long and hard on this, not much is coming to mind.

MLP was introduced to me indirectly by a member of a forum I was a part of a little over a decade ago who used a G3 MLP toy character for her username and icon. I find it strange how ignorant I was to the brand before this point, but I suppose I was never one into toys, and I didn't even know that MLP even had animations before I heard of FiM.

Pokemon was introduced to me by a kid from another family when my family went camping once. Yeah, I know... Totally not something I'd do if we went camping today, but that was like 16 years ago. xD (And I wouldn't ever go camping again anyway. Ew.)

The musical Les Miserables was introduced to me by us doing a show over it in marching band. I didn't have any clue what it was, but my mom bought me a CD and I fell in love.

Some people have heard, but this is how I became a brony. My bro was a brony before me, so he told me and then I told him he was weird. I was thinking about the old series, which they all say is girly. (No sexist intended, BTW) But then I was sitting on the couch when my cousins were watching, and I had no will to leave the couch. My thoughts were somewhere similar to ''This is surprisingly good''. I was obsessed with the show after that.

I properly got into a bunch of metal subgenres (or "real metal") when I stumbled across a bunch of "Real Metal vs Fake Metal" videos. This is one of them:

From that point onwards, I actually grew to love the bands featured in the videos (including some of the "fake metal" bands), as I previously had trouble listening to anything heavier than Slipknot.

Well, I got introduced to MLP from hotdiggedydemon's .Mov series. I saw other MLP stuff before, but at that point I just thought "why not?" and saw the first MLP episode. A couple months later, and here I am!

I'm going to give this thread another reply. I like PAC-MAN. How? Smash Bros. Smash Bros is my favorite game. You might think ''Isn't it PAC-MAN?'' Well, I sure do love PAC-MAN, but the reason I love PAC-MAN is because I mained him in Smash Bros, so I think Smash Bros is better. Heck, I even loved playing as PAC-MAN before I knew he was my favorite. I would play Smash, and he would be the first one I pick.

I was introduced to Mass Effect not by the controversy surrounding its ending, but through an MLP/crossover fic. That's all I can think of really.

Well I watched the first season of Korra and a bit of the second season before watching Avatar the Last Airbender.

I ended up watching all of ATLA during the hiatus either before or after Beginnings the avatar Wan 2 part episode.

OK, the way I was introduced ponies:

The year was 2011, and I was at my church for a New Year's Eve party for the youth group there. One of my friends who's a couple years younger than me (and a member of about every fandom on the planet) told me, straight up out of the blue, that he watched MLP sometimes because of all the pop culture references it made. I was so confused. My Little Pony?! Why?!

So, three years pass with me having no internet. Along comes my freshman year of college in 2014, and during my second semester, I was sitting up stairs, iPad in hand, bored out of my skull. For some strange reason, I couldn't get what my friend said about MLP out of my head, and I typed "MLP Refernces" into YouTube and ended up watching Alligator Tub's "Epic Wub Time", followed by Epic Cupcake Time and Epic Pie Time. Then I watched both the first and second seasons of the show and I've been hooked ever since.

I was introduced to the anime genre as a whole through MLP. This is what happened:
When going to My Little Pony on Netflix, I found this show called My Little Monster. I didn't know it was anime, but I still watched it and liked it. That's when I got into anime.

Jeez, when I first got into Portal, my friends loaded Portal 2 onto my computer and stood there and yelled 'PLAY IT' over and over. I was like 'Jesus tap-dancing Christ calm down, I'll play it'

I played it and now it's my favourite video game.

I was reintroduced to MLP and saw FiM for the first time from a troll video. A friend of mine's half uncle posted Rainbow Dash and season 1 stuff on Facebook back in 2011. It was kinda awkward tbh
