Yes, this is my jam. Bands such as Yes, Camel, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, etc. are legendary, and their best songs are definitely the 20+ minute long songs.

And some Floyd:

btw

Some good progressive metal is Iron Maiden in the album Seventh Son of a Seventh Son kinda sounds like progressive metal.

Maiden? Prog metal?. Surely, they're awesome but they're not prog Edited by leictreon

I am angry at myself for not seeing this thread sooner. I've loved prog for years, specifically prog metal.

I'm in class right now, but I'll be back soon to post lots of awesome progressive metal. Because it's just KIND OF my favorite genre of music ever :)

No Opeth in a progressive thread? Let me fix that. If you are at all a fan of progressive metal and you don’t know these guys you should become familiar with them as quickly as possible because they are as good as the genre gets in my opinion.

DREAM THEATER...

While I like their music a bit, their fans ruin it for me. I mean, it's hard to go on a progressive video on youtube without seeing a flood of comments like "DREAM THEATER DID IT" "LOL DREAM THEATER STEALERS". There are tons of great people in prog other than Dream Theater.

Like good ol' Ron.

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

Needs more Symphony X

Now if only multi-posting worked on this forum... or, if only posts could have more than 2 videos...

Okay, somebody else start posting with me so I can post more metal.

I don't know about fans or anything like that, but hey, they're not the best in the world. Hell, ask me any of the good bands including Dt, and I'd still can't choose. Each has their own unique sound. So it's not really, best than others. If I had to choose MY personal favorite...well...I don't think I could choose that easily. I have yet to hear more of Pink Floyd (I'm SO going to get killed for not hearing more of them...), but I THINK Emerson, Lake & Palmer, OR Rush. Muse is my favorite band ever, but it's not totally focused on progressive rock as much as it is EVERYTHING Muse does because...those guys change every album...and it is glorious.

Somehow I never posted in this thread before. I'm really a huge prog fan so I'm not sure how I missed it!

Anyway, I'm mostly into I guess early prog music. Some of my favorites are Pink Floyd, Genesis, Gong, Van Der Graaf Generator, and King Crimson. I don't know too many modern prog bands actually and I'm not so much into progressive metal either.

Any of you guys know this one? It's beyond amazing. It's 12:46 minutes long and every second of it is absolutely orgasmic.

This one is from Harmonium, a Quebec band. They were actually really popular during the 70's here in Quebec. This song is from their second album. Their first album was a bit more folk but this one is definitely very progressive. It's a bit softer than most prog out there I'd say, but it's really beautiful.

edit: oh I can't post more than 2 videos at once? :(

sucks. I got so much stuff to show you haha!

Figured that I might as well make this for all of the Progressive Rock/Metal fans out there, here you can post Rush, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Dream Theater, Tool and any other progressive bands that you like. Also yes before anyone asks Djent has it's place here.

Let's start this thread off with a Steven Wilson song

Title is now more descriptive.

Might as well get the new thread rolling with some Edge of Sanity. Forty minute prog death epic.

And then some hard rock/prog.

We all know that you don't like Prog music, Tool are different than most other Progressive bands out there, actually they are one of the most unique bands in Metal history. They're actually quite abstract to the point where they can be considered as an Experimental band as well as a Progressive band. but anyways I own Lateralus in a physical copy, it's a great album, some of my favorite tracks from that album were the title track, The Grudge, Reflection, and Ticks & Leeches.

I have a Dream Theater album in my iPod. T_T And I've been tempted to listen to Opeth because I heard one song by them and I really liked it. >_<

But whatever, I still think prog is for eggheads.

I never thought that I'd ever live to see the day that you'd put a Dream Theater album on your iPod and well...Opeth are a Progressive Death Metal band so that explains why you like them, I am also a fan Opeth, and I plan on buying Blackwater Park sometime.
