5. Lesson Zero

I love this episode because of how much I relate to it; I understand Twilight's frustrations with having to quickly make and solve a friendship problem, because I have constantly procrastinated writing book reports, or something like that..and ended up having to rush through them. While My and Twilight's problems are on two different wavelengths..I could still feel some of her pain. I enjoyed seeing her in some what of  vulnerable position, too; especially when Twilight was about to get in trouble with Celestia for not reporting on friendship. The comedy really shines in this episode, too.

 

4. magic Duel 

This episode established my love with Trixie Lulamoon. Trixie is just so hammy and quirky it is hard not to love her, she has such a bad attitude, with a tender side underneath all that. Fluttershy's bit was hilarious in this episode as well, with her dressed up as a spy to get out of the giant glass bowl Trixie put over the town. Also...Trixie fears wheels...so that is a thing. 

 

3. Maud Pie 

With my Little Pony, you are always expecting the unexpected with each passing episode. I wasn't expecting a giant laser fight at the end of season four..I wasn't expecting Trixie to have such a fun role in Rainbow Rocks, and I wasn't expecting Maud Pie. Maud Pie is one of the best characters this show has created, because she sets herself apart from all the other ponies with her style of speaking, and creative poetry. Maud's humor is dry, and makes every situation super strange when she is apart of it. The writers really went all out with this premise too, giving Maud a pet rock named Boulder, to her eating one of Rarity's gems. Maud may seem one note, but they actually dip into her personality a bit when she saves Pinkie's life too...which is always a plus to me.

 

2. Make New Friends but Keep the Discord

Seeing an entity like Discord become jealous over Fluttershy of all things is such an interesting look into his personality. Discord is hard-headed, filled to the brim with his ego, not afraid to embarrass himself in front of crowds for attention...oh and he gets slammed down by Maud Pie of all things.

Tree Hugger, while not the most fleshed out character, was incredibly funny to watch. Her personality, much like how I said Maud's was, is different, unique, and made me want to root for her and Discord at the same time. This episode focuses mainly on the comedy it can come up with using this one simple premise, and man does it work in it's favor. The Smooze should have been around more though...

 

1. Rainbow Rocks

Yes, I love this movie. It has a great amount of my favorite character, Trixie, and even gives her a SONG. I burst out in happiness when I heard her sing, too! Maud Pie makes an appearance, Sonata Dusk is one of the cutest things alive, and Sunset Shimmer gets her chance to show all of her good traits over her display in Equestria Girls. It is a tale of redemption, and learning to forgive others for what they did in the past might be hard, but it isn't impossible. The Sirens were my favorite part of this movie and are probably my second favorite in the villain category.

5. Hurricane Fluttershy (might be the only Fluttershy episode I consider truly in the toppest tier, Managed to tell a great really fun story with her without resorting to the sort of gimmicks that have been in her more recent episodes)

1. The Crystal Empire

--Aside from having one of the most badass, intelligent, clever, and generally awesome villains in all of fiction, this episode is packed full of atmosphere, all characters have a part to play (especially Spike), and just has a very satisfying conclusion.

 

2. The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone

--We get to see more of a non-pony race, the redemption of an antagonist, and Dash & Pinkie really felt as though they contributed. Also the world-building with the griffons was SO cool!

 

3. Rarity Takes Manehatten

--While not the episode that cements Rarity as my favorite of the Mane 6, this episode just felt SO strong in developing Rarity's character further. Add in Manehatten and the lovely Coco Pommel, then we have a recipe for a winner.

 

4. Canterlot Wedding

--Probably the first episode that seriously had me blown away; this one was my favorite for a LONG time largely because of the epic scope, the enjoyable villain in Chrysalis, and the just the general tone of the episode.

 

5. The Cutie Map

--What can I really say here. Pinkie Pie and especially Fluttershy felt like star characters here, Starlight Glimmer was a legitimately awesome villain, and the atmosphere was fairly creepy. Solid overall.

1. Pinkie Pride - It is by far the most musical episode, it has Weird Al in it and to top it all off, its just hands down the best Pinkie Pie episode. I love everything about it and have listened to the soundtrack to that episode more then any other.

 

2. Canterlot Wedding - Beautiful episode, love the Aria in it in English, Dutch and Japanese. I was already a fan after the third episode, but it was THIS episode that made me obsessed enough to go out and buy merchandise and be a part of this community. I love everything about it.

 

3. Magic Duel - Best Trixie episode so far, really hope she gets another episode someday. Trixie was totally justified in wanting revenge against twilight.

 

 

4. For whom the Sweetie Belle Tolls - Sweetie Belle was adorable in this episode and since she is one of my favorite side characters, I really enjoyed this one.

 

 

5. Putting your Hoof Down - Who doens't love IRON WILL!!!!! This is my favorite fluttershy

So my current top 5 including EQG movies (My list is very fluid save for the top spot): 

 

5) Friendship Games:

Four words: Super Saiyan Sunset Shimmer!!! Okay outside of that you have Sunset's character arc come full circle, with SciTwi adding an interesting mix to it as well as finally allowing each of the Humane 5 to get a moment to shine and showcases a theme of forgiveness and redemption while having it's focus on storytelling.

 

4) Tanks for the Memories/Testing Testing 1,2,3

Okay cheating here but screw it, I like them both! What I like about both is seeing Rainbow Dash at a low point and overcoming it/accepting it. Also Fluttershy was pretty great in both! (No I don't have a bias, you shut up!)

 

3) The Last Roundup

Uncut version to say the least. I prefer Derpy here as compared to Slice of Life because it was short, sweet and completely unexpected. But outside of Pony Most Likely to Derail an Episode, I like the story here and it's resolution. Applejack having a crisis in pride/shame is welcomed and the ending was both heartwarming (With the hug) and funny (with the stinger ending)

 

2) Wonderbolt Academy

The definitive Rainbow Dash episode in my books.  First off it, it finally gives us at least some pay off to the Will Rainbow Dash become a Wonderbolt? question. Secondly, it shows us how far Rainbow has come. Instead of being insecure and brash, Rainbow is a bit more level headed and won't let her pride get to her as easily.  Lightning Dust is a perfect foil too.  A perfect case of when pushing yourself becomes just reckless endangerment.  And Rainbow Dash quitting the Wonderbolts is  in my opinions one of the best scenes in the show.

 

1) Keep Calm and Flutter On

Another season 3 episode and usually an odd one at that, at least for the top position.  Let get one thing out of the way, this episode is flawed. The pacing is rushed, the dialog is unbelievably exposition filled and Lord knows what Celestia wanted Discord to do and yet it's still my favorite episode of the series.  For one thing, Fluttershy is absolutely on point.  They decide to focus on her kindness and they play with that as this is probably the most morally gray episode in the show.  Each side has a point and yet also has it's weaknesses. And I like that it's just as much the Mane 6 vs Discord as it is Fluttershy vs the rest of her friends. And of course the elephant in the room, Discord is magnificent as well here. Once again an odd choice but it's the episode I find myself watching over and over and not losing any replay value!
