Yeah, I've read that the original plan was to give the CMC their marks in the final season, which season 5 is not. However, fans have been demanding the CMC get their marks practically since the club was formed. This reached a higher point when season 5's theme was announced. So was Crusaders of the Lost Mark just to shut those vocal fans up?

Well I know I wasn't part of that fandom. I actually preferred they stayed blank flank until they reach a crucial important point in the show to be get it and wasn't eager for their cutie marks to appear any time soon.
