Viscra's Electronic Music Thread

I had a very productive week of music recently. Listened to "Music Has the Right to Children," "Mezzanine," and the entire Death Grips discography AGAIN (among a whole lot of other stuff).

While I thought "...Right to Children" and "Mezzanine" were great, I don't see them as the 5-star, ten-out-of-ten gems that everyone seems to claim they are. I'm probably hearing them out of context or just need to listen to them more.

Music Has The Right To Children is best BoC album, and Mezzanine is 5-star 10/10 quality to me, I don't see any sort of flaws in it or any sort of reason to rate it lower

Oh and I listened to Autechre for the first time too

Listen to their older stuff, Amber is so much better than Exai

OYG.

I decided to stop my review requests for the moment just to review this one. No, I won't take into consideration the first CD, since I really don't care about it. This, on the other hand, is just amazing dancefloor stuff.

Industrial Techno, here we go.

Why does this thread keep dying?? It should be active as hell, it's the only place I can spam Dubstep and Garage goodness ;_;

I went through Lapalux latest album for like the fifth time. I'll never get tired of it

I NOW HAVE MADE 1K POSTS, THIS IS A MILESTONE IN MY LIFE

I listened to quite a bit of Allesandro Cortini's (SONOIO) solo works today, I actually prefer his solo stuff over Trent Reznor's work in How To Destroy Angels. SONOIO's great even for people who aren't fans of NIN

Also his live stuff is pretty interesting too

Err... Hello there. I'm not really heavily into electronic music, but it really, really interests me.

I'm not completely sure how to tell if something exactly would fit as electronic music, but has anybody heard of Zircon?

I really, really like the album that is on itunes.

I'm not much for Complextro or anything similar, but Unearthed is a decent album. I might come back to it someday, due to the Breakbeat feeling

Re-visited The Street's debut album. A real UK Garage classic

DJ Paul rocks, one of the essential Gabber and Hardcore artists

Anyways, since we're all jerking off to Hardcore EDM, I might as well post some Japanese Makina in form of M-Project. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys happier forms of Hardcore

Here's a short mix/samples video from his album Hardcore Illusionist. Probably the best Makina material out there

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b90TjGE56dM

DJ Depath is pretty good. Sadly, almost none of his songs exist on youtube. Once again, recommended

nice tracks, probably a little too 'singy' for me tough. i like happy hardcore, but then more in the direction of the Party animals.

and well, i just love my tracks raw. like the newer hardcore EDM stuff

Oh well, the second track I posted might interest you then. I'm kind of picky when it comes to Happy Hardcore, it can get really cheesy at times *cough*Scooter*cough*. If it isn't a Japanese chick singing, then it gets incredibly ridiculous in my opinion ;P

Party Animals are good though

Speaking of Happy Hardcore, I'll post some DJ Shimamura. I don't really consider him to be a J-Core artist, though he has a J-Core undertone in his material

I've been finding less EDM tracks recently that really catch my interest. Monstercat, one of my favourite music labels, has went on an Electro run for the last month, coughing up nearly six in a row. This was unfortunate for me because Electro is actually my least favourite genre on Monstercat; barely any of the Electro songs stick out to me (with a few exceptions like "Sexy Beast" and "House"), and not even the great Noisestorm's latest release caught my interest. Not saying these are outright bad tracks though, just expected a bit more from them.

But I have found a few great tracks, one even from the mighty Muzzy called "Just Do It", which is an Electro song I think (oh, the hypocrisy), but it feels more like the DnB songs that he puts out with the gritty bass and hectic pacing.

There's also a song called "Y2K" released over on Spread The Jams (although I've heard it has also been on Trap & Bass), and it's basically a mix of Neuro and Trap, which is an obscure combo but is surprisingly affective! Definitely caught me off-guard with this one, STJ :)

And finally an older track. I was listening through Monstercat's 011 album, one of the less popular albums on my iPod, and I stumbled across "Dreams" by Rogue. I can't believe how overlooked it was! I listen to a lot of Rogue, but coming back to this amazing Drumstep track, I can say it is probably Rogue's best track. It's both beautiful and hard-hitting, and it's frickin' Drumstep! Need I say more? :)

Modern EDM (excluding Hardcore) really feels bland and generic these days. I much prefer the more "chill" or just generally calmer genres and stuff from the 90's

God, I love the UK EDM scene

Yeah, I agree that it's mostly generic (House is the absolute worst for that), although I'm rather interested in some EDM artists' styles of music, and I like to see how they use their styles in their music and possibly even change it as they grow as a producer. Tut Tut Child is an example; loved his style ever since "Dance To It", but I also loved his "Hummingbird" track which was a significant change from his usual style.

But I also like to mix in some calmer music as well, especially (Nu) Disco. Chillout and Trance are cool in my books, too.

I'll post some odder stuff here. It's mainly UK Bass and Future Garage, but there's some Spoken Words in the mix as well

Their critically acclaimed album We're Here Now is kinda sketchy overall. It got it's great moments though, and it's very enjoyable if you don't mind Spoken Words and Dub Poetry

Spelacure is so freaking underrated, he does a great job mixing UK Funky with Future Garage, definitely deserves more recognition. It's like a funky and faster version of Burial

Two pretty cool things happened recently. A compilation of 10 tracks went out from a group of producers in the metro-ko scene I'm part of. It's basically music that captures the mood of being in a big city with a lot of people around out and yet somehow still being alone. It's an interesting idea that I've made my own contributions to in the past (which I'll get to in a moment). Get the compilation here on a name-your-price basis.

As for my own contributions, I've put out an EP in conjunction with the release of this compilation which you can download here. I've done plenty of other work under this name too, dating back to the inception of the metro-ko movement in November 2012.

Is anyone else into Lone? I think most of you will enjoy him. He mixes Acid House, IDM, Hardcore Breaks (which is kind of like Breakcore), Wonky and Purple Sound into one perfect mix

Unless you really dislike Purple Sound, this should be very enjoyable

It's been a LONG time since I posted in this topic. Haven't listened to much electronic lately!

But I did find this:

According to the comments this is a rather popular trance song actually. It does sound sorta familiar so maybe I've heard it before but this is the type of atmospheric stuff I love to hear in my trance. Atmosphere is the very reason I listen to trance in the first place.

After hearing so many people going crazy over Jamie Woon's album Mirrorwriting, I gave it a chance.... I absolutely hated it, I couldn't stand the singing. The instrumental part wasn't very memorable anyways

I'll chill to some Trip Hop now
