I question whether this was a calculated decision. With all the people voting for him purely because he didn't want to be voted for. ...I get the feeling he might be employing reverse psychology. He wants to sing so he say he doesn't want the votes, that way everyone voting for him purely because he doesn't want to is actually playing right in to his plans. If that's the case, then it's working.
