Maybe that was to teach everyone not to underestimate someone really shy and kind like Fluttershy. On the outside they could be friendly on the outside, but on the inside, she's stronger and more strict than you think.

Sure, she's sweet and shy, but strong and firm, but she doesn't normally go ax-crazy over a firefly. Fluttershy normally uses her words as opposed to sheer brutality, since she's a pacifist by nature. But Power Ponies was supposed to be an escapist episode, one that was supposed to be inconsequential to the MLP chronology, so they just gave a loose interpretation of her personality traits for kicks. We haven't seen Fluttershy rage out since that episode, so the writers still understand Lauren Faust's original intention of her character: kind, maternal, gentle, timid, and yet firm and determined when she wants to be as opposed to merely being a doormat with anger issues, a fear that I've dreaded when the episode came out.

Speak for yourself.

I just about woke the whole house up laughing when I first saw that scene.

In retrospect, Flutterhulk smashing the hairdryer was pretty funny, but still, "big, ugly brute" should never be used to describe Fluttershy.

I think you are making to big of a deal out of it, especially when you mention that it has been messing with your life to the point of depression. it is just a cartoon

Fluttershy does rage out on many occasions in the show itself, it's just that Power Ponies made her "rage" into a physical phenomenon instead of a verbal one, just like they made Pinkie Pie super fast as an allegory to how she's always hopping around since she can't stay in one place.

To me, some of their powers were based off of their personalities; Pinkie Pie has a "fast personality", so she's super fast; Applejack is an honest pony, so she's like Wonder Woman who's all about truth and has that truth-telling lasso; Rarity loves to create beautiful wares with jewels so her power allows her to create anything to wants with her mind made out of jewels; and then Fluttershy is usually soft and gentle but when she rages everyone knows to take her seriously, thus that translates into her hulking out into a giant "monster".

I guess Rainbow Dash and Twilight don't really fit into that paradigm since Rainbow really can influence weather as a Pegasus and Twilight already is good with magic, but you get the gist of it.

Overall though, I hate to be that guy, but I think you're taking too big of an offense to all this. A lot of the characters go through jokes that we may or may not like depending on our attachment to them. I won't lie, I had a similar response to Rainbow Dash after seeing the episode "Tanks for the Memories". That's legitimately the first episode I can say I don't like at all. I just rolled my eyes over and over at seeing Rainbow Dash bawl her eyes out like Rarity. But it's just an episode and even though I can share my criticism, I never let it affect me as much as this episode is apparently effecting you.

Thank you for your mature and understanding response. Although you're willing to say I'm overly offended by Flutterhulk, you still were able to emphasize somewhat and respond without calling me hurtful names or bullying me.  You also explained thoroughly why The Hulk was a great fit for Fluttershy and how the powers were reflective of the ponies' character. I applaud you, good sir.

She's not Fluttershy there though. It's Fluttershy playing a character called Saddlerager, who only needs to get a LITTLE angry to fall down the slippery slope and hulk out. That said, I think your desperate need to this "perfect" image of Fluttershy you have forever preserved is a bit unhealthy.
