Is anyone else on this site an atheist?

I'd like to know if anyone else on this site is an atheist(someone who doesn't believe in God) because I am one myself. I don't hate them I just don't believe he exists because their is no scientific proof what-so-ever that he does exist. So, if anyone else on this site an atheist please reply.

Discounting the existence of God because it lacks scientific proof is too easy of an answer. That assumes the science we have is advanced enough to define God. God, almost by definition, defies the science of man.

I've always called myself agnostic. I can't really say that God does or does not exist, for a similar reason to what Discordian said. The thing is, though, I just don't care enough to think about it. I don't think about religion almost ever and it has no bearing on my life, so I just don't care about it.

 

If other people are religious, that's fine, but it's just not for me.

I'm sort of inbetween agnostic and athiest... I say that because every time I decide to give religion a little slack, someone religious person types in something incredibly retarded and any respect I had for them drops back to zero again. >_<

I agree. It's just an assertion really - not even a belief, but a lack of a particular one thereof. There is a lot to explore, and we're going to miss out on a lot of it if we remove God from the equation automatically.

Apparently both of us would fall under a banner called "Agnostic Atheists" in that we as individuals don't believe there is a creator/divine being/God but we admit that it's possible some form of higher being exists as we don't have the knowledge to truly say yes or no. Our choice not to believe there is one is just personal.

I guess I'm an agnostic towards the existence of a judeo-christian god in the same way I am agnostic towards juju, wendigos and Santa Claus. My daughter asked me about a streak in the clouds if it was Santa Claus. I said it's likely a plane, but you never know.

I guess it's honest to know what you can't know, and not just rely on things you see. I've never seen Australia with my own eyes, but I'm fairly sure there is an Australia. I still think Vladimir Putin might be a fictional character.

We're flying in a giant spherical mass of dirt towards humanity's inevitable doom, but yay! ice cream!

Atheism is exactly the easy way out and that's how it should be. It by definition is this way because atheism is the null hypothesis. Theism is the assertion that a God exists. Antithesism is the assertion that a god does not exist. Atheism is simply a lack of beleif in gods. It is the response to religious claims of theism. I assert there hasn't been enough evidence to move torwards one of the assertions in either direction. Atheism is the default position because it does not make an assertion. Everyone is an atheist before they accept a god this is why it is on the antitheist and theist to have the burden of proof. It is the most open minded point in my mind because it does not assert that which there isn't enough evidence for.

 

Maybe you are thinking atheism is more than a response to the God claim. This is not the case. What comes along with this response comes in many different wolrdviews, belief systems, skepticism or not, etc. atheism is a lack of belief in gods and nothing more.

If yes then you are also an atheist by definition. I am also open to the existence of gods but I reject all god claims because of lack of evidence. This is not an assertion that Gods do not exist. You can reject the label though

I'd argue that atheism isn't actually the default position simply because the decision is made not to believe. Agnosticism, where one neither believes or disbelieves, sounds more like a neutral position to me. Whether they don't know enough to say or don't care.

 

Whether one is open to a change of view is irrelevant though. Everyone should be willing to accept new information regardless of which side they take.
