Are we REALLY that hated?

Honestly part of it that you have to consider is that furries have been around forever. For a long time they were hated for just about everything they did. So people voting accounted for that more than likely. Furries are old news, people are not "surprised" or "shocked" by them anymore. Bronies are relatively fresh in people's mind so naturally they will say bronies are "worse" because of how much more you see bronies on the internet now. They're the thing of the "now" whereas furries are old news and no one really wants to hear about them anymore.

You have to consider that when you look at the scores. People tend to find things they have to see more often and are more recent as more annoying than things that are less recent.

That being said: I find people going "the haters are the real cringe worthy people" to be kind of hypocritical. You don't like people criticizing you like that, why do it to them in retaliation? It only continues the cycle and it comes off as "I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM !?" People are ignorant, yes but insulting them for their ignorance does not beget knowledge or erase their ignorance. In fact by doing so, you're only encouraging them to remain ignorant.

Honestly? I highly doubt we're relevant enough to the vast majority of people to be hated. There is a vocal minority that does, and they're likely the primary audience for a YouTube show like the one in the OP, so those stats aren't surprising. Anyone who knows anything about stats knows that a voluntary response online survey is the most prone to bias, and in this case I highly doubt it's reflective of the prevailing opinion, which is probably at most a shrug followed by a less than hearty statement that it's kind of weird that we watch a little girl's show.

By the way, as someone who once belonged to the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom, and one of the most trolled fringes of it at that, I have absolutely no intention of ever returning to it. I've even had a falling out with the gaming fandom in recent years, which I thought would never happen. I still play and enjoy videogames and am still somewhat of a part time videogame journalist, but I just don't understand the fandom anymore, like I used to.

This fandom is great because it's not only welcoming and void of elitism, but disagreements in the fandom rarely ever go beyond a respectful difference of opinion, and we're more or less on the same page, unlike fandoms where there are two or more sides that somewhat resemble warring factions, just without actual violence. If we're hated for anything, it's that we're deviant, but I don't think that's such a bad thing, as we're at least all decent human beings here, for the most part. Every community has its ups and downs, but this one has been more up than down for me, hence why I've stayed longer than I anticipated and even accepted a volunteer mod position.

I have a simple opinion that works for both haters and members of any fandom or any group, religion or ideology.

"People like to think that they are special. Either by proclaiming that they are fighting against something that needs to be fought or by insisting they are oppressed by something."

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

Oh, this looks really dumb.  I mean, Sonic and Minecraft fans are in the competition for most cringe-worthy?  Gimmie a friggin break.  What's cringe-worthy about that?  I'm not placing any stock or importance in this whatsoever.

Sometimes it seems like we're the most detestable caste of society, and other times is seems greatly exaggerated due to internet trolls, and that the average person really doesn't care.  So, like always, I'm sure the truth is a medium in there somewhere.  We're hated by many, but it's probably not as big of a deal as it seems.  Just ignore it.  The more attention you give it, the worse it is.  It's like that Voyager freezy carnival party episode with the evil jester man who disappeared when they ignored him.  'Member that one?  Or the classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror: Attack of the Fifty-Foot Eyesores.

When I first heard about Bronies the first thing I found was the cringe part of the fandom. But, instead of coming to a snap decision. I decided to look deeper into the fandom. That's when I discovered all the awesome content the fandom has produced. That changed my mind about Bronies.

Same reason I avoid them. The comments that have made me cringe the most are the ones that say things like "we need a brony holocaust" or any comments about killing people that are [insert fandom here]. Yes, people should be killed over the fact that they're a fan of a movie, TV show, etc. And they say we're the ones with problems. Sometimes I think "we aren't hated that much" other times I'm like "holy shit, they do hate us that much." This is a video that addresses the common criticisms thrown at the brony fandom.

That video was fantastic! I need to share it with my brother in law because I really didn't do the fandom justice when he was asking me about it. I've never been to a convention or even a group meeting or whatever, so my exposure to the fandom as a whole has been 100% over the internet via forums, photos, youtube and documentaries. Sadly, most of the documentaries I've seen don't seem to do the fandom justice either and seem to show those who do fit the stereotypes. If anyone here knows of some really good documentaries showing bronies as "normal," "average," "thin," "clean-shaven" or "well groomed," not-newsworthy-weird, or are otherwise breaking-the-stereotypes we bronies tend to get, please share them with me so I have more *umph* in my retorts! PM or here will work just fine! Be sure to quote me so I see it though if it's here! Thanks in advance!

Like any fandom the hard-core nasties are gonna be noticed more then the sane ones who aren't in your face. This particular fandom has a bad rep for being toxic.

I won't lie, while I know plenty of fans who act like normal people, I usually end up meeting the ones who spew nothing but venom.

I chalk it up to internet troll syndrome more then anything though. Just cuz you can be a jerk and not get punched in the face doesn't mean you have to abandon a sense of decency and I mean that for everyone who acts like that, particularly in the YouTube comment section.

I've also never seen a fandom so aggressively divisive against its own. Again thats just the nasties and bandwagoners talking but it shouldn't matter what gens you like, there is no reason to go out of your way to harass others for it. We're all fans of the same franchise.

Parts of the fandom are starting to hate itself so yeah, brony hatred is alive still. In another video I seen, supposedly showing 'cringe' stuff, the video mocks bronies and calls us a plague all because of a few extreme cases and one video was obviously a joke, yet they used that as a generalized insult to ALL of us. The result? A flooded comment section with hundreds, if not thousands of people saying that 'bronies are sick ' bronies need help 'bronies are a cancer' 'bronies should be put to death', you know, that sort of stuff. Seems like hatred to me.

Quite.

The cynical side of me also suspects that there may be something similar to click-baiting going on here too.

Someone asking,"Oh hey there's this weird thing people like, let's see what's what", won't attract attention;

'OMFG WATCH THIS VIDEO TO SEE CRAZY NUTJOBS WHO WATCH GIRL'S CARTOON!!!' along with a thumbnail of a creepy AJ fursuit will get more views.

Outrage fuels both sides of the debate, makes both sides shout louder and act less reasonably, and garners more attention from all areas.

I feel like the hate has slowed down over the years. It still it exists, but lots of people just don't care anymore. Plus there are now more fandoms for the ignore little shitheads to hate over, so let them, I guess.

It sucks that most people look at the bad side of the fandom when there are so many great aspects that get overlooked. It would be a dream come true if people gave the show a try before judging, insulting, or hating on the fandom.

If any of you have seen the comments of any brony posts on 9gag, you'd know how much some people detest us. And I cringe at a lot of brony stuff, I get it, we watch a show for little girls, and when people sing the theme song at maccas or ask those kind of cringy questions at a convention, it's bad. At least most of us are pretty sane about it.
