I love the backround OST for mlp, it's not something I pay attention to often, but when I do I love it..

 

So I was thinking, whether it be a certain moment or an entire episode, what is your favorite backround music throughout the series

I really like the song that played when Rainbow Dash goes into the weather factory. It is defiantly a reference to the fan song rainbow factory.

I love the intro to Wonderbolt Academy, it alludes to Sonic Rainboom, and speaking of which, Sonic Rainboom is my favorite piece of background music.

Favorite is definitely "Cutie Mark Crusaders Go Crusading", from "The Show Stoppers" episode. I like the montage a lot.

 

Also, the music in the scene from "Lesson Zero" where Celestia tells the Mane 6 that they all have to start writing friendship lessons. I think the music there reflects the whole master-student teaching thing. A lesson learned is wisdom earned!

The music in the very end of Amending Fences, with the French accordion, is absolutely beautiful.

 

Also, the music in Twilight's welcome to Ponyville party is super catchy. If you don't know what I mean, go to 0:35 of this video and listen to the music.

My favorite piece of background music is this scene from Return of Harmony:

Mostly because it's a subtle reference to The Empire Strikes Back score, specifically the track Escape from Cloud City

(In regards to the part about "Amending Fences") I agree, it's very touching and embellishes the theme of tender reconciliation. Moreover, I really, really dig how that last shot of the episode is framed, with the viewer perspective inside the house observing the (whatever sport they're doing out there, lol) game going on outside. The scene, music included, is one of my favorites from the show because of how much meaning is constructed with relatively simple techniques. Masterful. Edited February 6, 2016 by On-Locoweed

I'd never noticed that resemblance before. I always figured it alluded to Mission Impossible. They did a nice job invoking both of those things then.

My favorite would likely be at the end of "The Crystal Empire," part 1 where the shield fails and we see the dark clouds of Sombra slowly encroach on the Crystal Empire, and he here the instruments go dark, powerful, and suddenly cut off.

The end credits theme from "Rarity Investigates" is hands down my favorite background song. Replacing the normal credits theme with this "jem" caught me completely off guard. The jazzy elements combined with the theme that we have all grown to love over the years just strikes a nice chord with me.
