Shamira 13 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 It's no secret that the show favours hasty reformations for villains and antagonists, and most of the time those times the reformation is handled really badly. So, I'm asking a question that many have no doubt asked already, which reformation is the worst? And if you want, explain why. I'm putting human Twilight and Luna on there, even though it wasn't actually them doing the bad things, just to be safe. For me personally, I'd say Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. With the other characters we didn't have seasons worth of material to hate them with, and then Diamond Tiara is suddenly forgiven and everything is blamed on her out of nowhere mother.
Nuke87654 1,849 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 I'd say Sunset Shimmer as DQ mentioned before. It only worked as it did because the Elements of Harmony essentially brainwashed her and replaced her old character with a far more reciprocal one. It's different from Nightmare Moon/Luna as Luna was possessed by an evil entity rather than simply being an antagonistic school bully that wanted power until Elements of Harmony came and removed her old personality.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,298 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 Starlight Glimmer. It feels like her attempts at ruining the entire timeline itself was kinda ignored in the end and all it took was her seeing a completely barren wasteland of nothingness to realize how wrong she was. I am all for the concept of forgiveness but this was a case where she was essentially destroying all of Equestria just because of spite against a group. She was oblivious yes, but still. While I am glad that the finale ended the way it did overall, her whole reformation felt unsatisfying to me, so I hope that is touched up on in season 6.
Dracu98 139 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 Starlight Glimmer. It feels like her attempts at ruining the entire timeline itself was kinda ignored in the end and all it took was her seeing a completely barren wasteland of nothingness to realize how wrong she was. it wasn't really the wasteland that showed her how stupid she was acting, it was twilights talk-no-jutsu. but yes, they really let her go with a clap on the hoove, which I am totally not ok with. she destroyed Equestria multiple times (even though I wonder how that works. stop little rd with magic, and sombra wins. convince foals that bullying is bad, and chrysalis wins. I mean, I'm all for alternate, dark realities, but rd can't possibly have THAT much of an impact to history), and they are just like "'sup fam. wanna join the gang?" that's just unbelievable, even in Equestria.
Sidral Mundet 1,666 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 Starlight Glimmer, without a doubt. Now I'm not going to make a claim that Sunset's getting hit with the EoH rainbow was a great redemption by any means but what made her's decent is that she had to earn her way back into everyone's good graces. That there were consequences to her being an alpha bitch to the entire school and that not even the Humane 5 were able to let go of their lingering feelings towards Sunset. Starlight on the other hand is given an extremely weak backstory that's suppose to make her come off as sympathetic but instead makes her look unbelievable pathetic and immature, never-mind that it was suppose to completely 180 the way we, the audience, see the character. Then she's just given instant friendship with all of the Mane 6, not questions asked. I mean for frak sakes, Discord more or less did the same thing that Starlight did to the Mane 6 and it's taken him 3 seasons to even get to nominal friendship with most of the Mane 6 and even then they still aren't all super buddies like they are with Starlight in that ending montage. And that's the really big issue with Starlight, she faced no consequences for her actions and is handed out friendship and a redemption instead of having to earn it like most of the other redeemed characters. Also the fact that we're just suppose to go from hating this character to feeling sorry for her in a blink of an eye. So yeah Starlight had the worst reformation in my eyes. 4 Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.
Drunk Not I Am 1,070 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 EASILY Starlight Glimmer, Went through the trouble to try and alter time just because her friend got his cutie mark and she got butthurt over it? Then just decides, oh ok. Let's all be friends now. Nope. Terrible. 4 "There is no innocence on the internet, only varying degrees of guilt." Megas 27,555 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 (edited) Starlight Glimmer, which essentially ruined her character with a laughably bad backstory making all of her actions incredibly petty than understandable, and the ending montage at the end the episode was one of, if not the lowest point for me, with essentially getting her redemption and everyone's love handed to her on a silver platter and absolutely no effort involved, not earning it in the slightest. Still the laziest thing in the show by a mile In contrast, even if you take Sunset Shimmer's "brainwashing" into consideration(which is still a giant, steaming load of horseshit to even consider), she still had to deal with the entire school's contempt, and still had to spend an entire movie's worth of time to earn their trust Edited February 7, 2016 by Megas
Steve Piranha 29,414 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 Sunny was the queen of this, but it was remedied how it wasn't instant towards other people in RR. Starlight Glimmer however, felt rushed, and her reason for her misguiding felt pretty lame (Not able to hang out with a friend because he got his cutie mark before and left? I've expected being bullied because others had better talent or something) 1 Sig by Discords
Draxon 214 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 As much as I love Sunset Shimmer, her reformation at the end of the first Equestria Girls was so sudden, and her personality was so much different in the next couple of movies, that it was like another, completely different character gained possession of her body. Her reformation was similar to that of Nightmare Moon, in that they both involved the Elements of Harmony and were quite sudden, but Nightmare Moon had been banished for a thousand years, and the part of her that was still Luna had a long time to think things over. Sunset Shimmer was instantly reformed with only a moment to think about what she had done. 1 Thrackerzod is best pony.
ISleepNow 20 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 difficult choice for this show unfortunately.. I'd say Any reformation involving breaking a spell rather than internal development (as limited as That might be for this show.) AmberDust 1,118 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 I only say Starlight Glimmer because I don't really count Sunset as canon in the series. ^^' Starlight's backstory was boring, and an overreaction that could be easily remedied by just talking to her friend. Although she made a cool villain, her reformation was really rushed and hard to believe. 1 Need help with your OC? I'd love to assist you! Just visit my help thread. Dark Qiviut 22,378 February 8, 2016 Share February 8, 2016 (edited) I said it before, and I'll say it again: easily Sunset Shimmer. If I want to see the character redeemed, I want to see the character redeemed, not a mythological artifact's brainwashed version of her. Sunset was irredeemably bad and chose to be evil from the beginning. She never got the chance to actually see the errors of her ways during her time in EQG. Instead, the Elements of Harmony killed off the original personality and replaced it with their fetishistic ideal of who she should be. The Sunset now isn't the real Sunset, but another in disguise with only her memories, voice, and body attached. DHX's creative quackery here is intellectually offensive, literally breaks the entire spinoff, and results in a redemption arc that doesn't deserve one ounce of support. Wind Chaser 4,768 February 8, 2016 Share February 8, 2016 Based on their first episodes alone, Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer's reformations were bombed by rushed and/or forced resolutions. However, Rainbow Rocks saved Sunset Shimmer and I'm reserving judgement on Starlight until I see her in another episode. Based on their overall reformations, I put Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, just narrowly edging out Trixie. DT & SS were mostly one-note characters in all but one of their episodes ("Twilight Time" made them more fame-obsessed than outright bullies), and they didn't get a character arc until the absolute last episode. Diamond Tiara was given an even more one-note caricature for a mother to explain why she was a bully in order to shift responsibility from her as a character, and to this point neither she nor Silver Spoon have appeared in any subsequent episodes. Trixie is a highly overrated character to me - most people seem to only like her name, design aesthetic, and voice, or like her because Sethisto at Equestria Daily fawns over her. Her reformation was ambiguous and she never appeared again after she ran away in "Magic Duel". I'd say good riddance. There really isn't much more character to be explored besides whatever traits fans want to give her, hence why she had to wear the Once-Daily Amulet for Unnatural Unicorn Enhancement in her second appearance.
KatonRyu 1,033 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 Starlight Glimmer would have to be the weakest one for me. She was a very powerful villain, and genuinely frightening too. For a character like that to just be pissy over losing one friend as a filly and erecting a soviet village because of it is just weak. I feel they could've come up with far stronger justifications for her actions than just that single event. If they had given her more examples that show the alleged downsides of differences between ponies her story would have been much stronger. As it stands, she went from legitimately threatening communist dictator to a salty idiot.
Metro Whiz 1 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 For one, Diamond Tiara's reformation struck me more as like Pacifica-style (from Gravity Falls), so it's not that bad And hey, Starlight's backstory is just more of a cookie-cutter one lacking any depth

Been hearing Starlight Glimmer a lot, I would say her reformation is not that different to Sunset Shimmer, but as a villain she was at least a bit amusing, her backstory is what sucked real hard but in terms of reformation it sucked as much as Sunset Shimmer. Sunset Shimmer on the other hand... she sucked as a villain and her reformation made no sense as well.
