Why do people assume the Wonderbolts are jerks?

Yes they've made a few faux pas, but they've made up for them after, and of course the big one people talk about when it comes to this matter: Rarity Investigates. People think the Wonderbolts automatically blaming Dash is a sign that they're a bunch of jerks. However, think about this: Wind Rider. a legendary retired Wonderbolt, was the first to accuse her. It was HIS word against hers. To put it in terms of real life, it would be like a private accusing a Sergeant or Corporal of abusing rank without proof. Who would you listen to in that case, the kid or the senior officers?

Rainbow Falls

Also I'd like to think they went easy on her in Rarity Investigates, but that's a personal thing

Rainbow Falls

Pretty much this.

Considering how Spitfire and Fleetfoot acted in regards to not only Dash, but Soarin' as well, and it's easy to see why they've left a sour taste in the mouths of some people.

Rainbow Falls, yes. But like i said, they made a few faux pas, but they make up for them afterwards. That episode is no different,

They're okay to me.

They carry a heavy legacy (their history is part of the entrance exams, pegasi used to be glorious warriors,..), hence they naturally defend the oldest and most glorious ones.

Even if they lacked some... efficiency, they've done their job : They went against spike went he was rampaging, they jumped to save rarity when she fell. Some of them made mistakes (where is the element of forgiveness when you need one :P ), but I wouldn't consider them as jerks.

Because when people look up to their idols and are surprised that they act like jerks in a different light than how you picture people you look up to, it leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth and mixed feelings.

I can actually imagine that some of the Wonderbolts might come off as overly arrogant or at least patronizing towards others just because of their position. They are an elite squadron; the best Equestria has to offer. A few of their previous actions like those of Rainbow Falls suggest that they're willing to go some lengths in order to protect that reputation. Fame can make a lot of people act big headed.

Honestly, I think the wonderbolts are jerks because they don't seem all that great aside from the abundant praise Rainbow Dash gives them. The Wonderbolt's haven't ever really done anything spectacular in the show. Three of them got knocked out by Rarity when she was simply flailing her arms. That's honestly a bit sad if you ask me.

What's worse is that even though Rainbow Dash is clearly a better flyer than any of the Wonderbolt's, they still won't let her join. They have her on "reserve" or something stupid. It honestly feels like each member of the Wonderbolt's is selfish and doesn't want to lose their place on the team instead of doing what's best for the team.

Also on a side note this little point of how Rainbow Dash is clearly a superior flyer and still isn't on the Wonderbolt's makes the moments when she does get to fly with them so much less rewarding or enjoyable to watch because we already know she deserves to fly with them, they're just too stubborn to let her. -shrugs- that's my two cents. Spitfire is still hot, though. Hehe.. get it? Spitfire? Hot? ehh? ayy lmao??

I'll show myself out.

Rainbow Falls most likely just left too negative of an imprint in said people's minds.

As for in Rarity Investigates!, however, the Wonderbolts actually tried to give Dash the benefit of the doubt despite their suspicions, thus being Rescued From The Scrappy Heap, IMO.

Also in Rarity Investigates, they kind of had a guilty until proven innocent thing going on. Spitfire doesn't seem like the most compassionate of ponies.

Soarin' isn't a jerk though. He likes pie and is really Captain N: The Game Master.

I respect the Wonderbolts as a unit (mostly because I'm a fan of military), but individually they really are jerks dude. Just as @@PiratePony, mentioned, guilty until proven innocent is messed up, and while I can understand what you sayin they had this word of a senior, don't you think that the procedure should be a little different? Of course, they had only a word from Dashie that she's innocent, but the only thing Wind Rider had was also a word that she's guilty. You don't have evidence for one or another, so I think you do not threaten anyone you will kick him out and you rather carry out an investigation.

The Wonderbolts to me are a strange group, probably one that has a touch of arrogance within its ranks. Spitfire and Fleetfoot seem to think they are 'all that' yet Spitfire didn't exactly handle things well in Rarity Investigates. It also seems like they don't respect some of their members all that much, like Soarin', who seems like a nice pony for sure and he is just doing what he likes, plus he seems to have a lot of respect towards the others regardless. Now if only the others could be as humble as him or say...Rainbow Dash nowadays, I think the tune would change for many people, including myself. That is why I want Dashie to lead them.

They haven't got much going for them at all really.  They're an aerobatic display team with no function beyond doing a few tricks in the air every now and then.  There has been a few occasions where they had the opportunity to become something more, but they choked every time.  They have consistently shown poor integrity and judgement, which is probably a symptom of having that much ego compressed into a small space with no real, useful outlet.

Heck, they're probably dragging their feet on Rainbow Dash's application because they they know how much better she is than any of them, not just in the air but in character as well.

it started in Hurricane fluttershy with people asking why spitfire wasn't helping if the water was so important; a very small thing, so it wasn't that big then, just a joking meme.
Then Came wonderbolt academy, with Spitfire coming off as an arrogant ass who actively condoned recklessness and only actually came down on LD after RD more or less shamed her into it, with it seeming to many more like Spitfire was trying to save face than actually upset.

THEN came Rainbow falls where they're MASSIVE assholes who absolutely stomp all over everything that good sportsmanship and team loyalty represent (SERIOUSLY, trying to poach someone off an opposing team is just the absolute worst and most underhanded thing you can do) while also being jerks to Soarin. This is the biggest thing yet, showing Spitfire and fleetfoot to be absolute jerks who seem to have no comprehension of the idea of team loyalty at all.

Finally, we have Rarity investigates where Fleetfoot, one of dash's heroes, tries to frame her purely out of ego and fear of her being better than him.

And what GOOD do we have to see of them? there's the comics showing Spitfire in a better light, but that's honestly it. If it wasn't for dash constantly praising them, fans wouldn't even REALIZE they're supposed to be good characters and not scum antagonists like what Suri or the flim flam brothers are.

They've just done nothing but bad with absolutely nothing good to balance them out is all.

Heck, they're probably dragging their feet on Rainbow Dash's application because they they know how much better she is than any of them,

The fact that wind rider tried to sabotage RD purely out of fear of how good she was kind of makes this make more sense XD (though I doubt its specifically for that reason)

But that counts as being part of the wonderbolts. I would make a reasonable assumption that it's like being in the US Army reserves. It's not being on active duty but on call at a moment's notice. Even so, Dash seems to be their go to reservist. I am not sure why she's not a full time member yet but probably because she would have to move to Cloudsdale.

Rainbow Falls

  • Spitfire and Fleetfoot lie to their own teammate so they can do better in the games, hanging Soarin' out to dry
  • Nothing happens to them

Rarity Investigates

  • Rainbow Dash is accused of doing more or less exactly what Spitfire did in RF
  • "Prove your own innocence or you're off the team forever"

It pretty much just ties back to Rainbow Falls.

Like others have already stated, their previous appearances have been less than admirable so far.

- Going behind each other's back (rainbow fall's)

- attempting to stab a member in the back for a leg up in a competition (rainbow falls)

- One of their heralded members attempted to frame Rainbow Dash

Add to this that Rainbow Dash has contributed to saving Equestria more than the Wonderbolts ever had, and that she has proven herself to be more loyal than any of their members, and it really brings up the question of why she bothers idolizing this group at all.

Because Rainbow Falls characterized them as jerks. But hey those are the many problems with that episode.

The Wonderbolts actually aren't jerks, and no Wonderbolts Acadamy doesn't count because you're supposed to be that harsh when leading a boot camp.

I am not an expert (I tend to avoid Rainbow Dash centric episodes because I dislike most of them) but I doubt anyone "assumes" they're jerks...

They have been shown to be not so unforgiving, arrogant, and reckless...

So they are certainly not very nice...So I can't blame people for considering them "jerks."

That, and Spitfire still took appropriate action once she learned about Lightning Dust endangering others like that.
