Does it have to do with typing or writing? Good. Post it. Whether it be something that irks you, or if you need help with something-- we want your posts.

Why does this thread exist? Because grammar. Also, these are the MLP Forums-- random thread ideas are best ideas.

Rules:

-Stay chill.

-Complaining about stuff is fine, just stay extra chill.

-Don't go spouting out names without permission. Don't even hint towards people.

-Seriously. We don't want behaviour like that here.

-Got it?

-Try to be of help to other people if they ask for it.

-This is the General Grammar Thread, but you can speak about anything that has to do with any form of communication format.

Keep in mind that more rules will sprout out with time if this thread catches.

Don't judge a book by its cover. You will truly understand it if you're just willing to read it.

Actually, in all honesty, I too rely heavily upon spellcheck.

I started using it because it corrected the occasional mistake or typo, but then suddenly I realized that because I always kept spellcheck on, my typing was pretty darn bad without it.

Curse spellcheck. It disguises itself as a friend, but then stabs you in the back.

As long as I can understand, I'm not typically bothered by bad spelling or something. My only problems come with punctuation - that is to say, if people don't know how to use commas or paragraphs and type a novel, then I'm not going to read it. It's too hard to read run-on sentences for a single line with my poor eyesight let alone a page's worth.

I mean obviously sometimes people do not even try to spell, and I just assume they're lazy. Unless I'm in a professional setting, where I'd be hesitant to show anything with improper spelling, then I'd just ignore it.

I do not understand generally how to use a semicolon; only have used it when it feels right. But I don't have THAT much care for it. Again, if I can understand, it's all good.

I am very bothered when somebody uses "there" instead of "they're" or "their" instead of "there". I am very protective over my grammar.

I'm one of those people that will make sure every single sentence will have proper grammar, capitalization, and punctuation.

I'f I do not use any of those forms, it means I'm just lazy.

'Your' is possessive, and implies ownership of something. 'You're' is a contraction, a shorthand for "you are"

I love grammar. When I don’t follow the rules of grammar, it’s almost always on purpose.

There are a lot of specific and simple grammar mistakes that irk me, but I can feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about them, so I won’t mention them here. :-P

SAME! I HATE this.

I'm a little less bothered when someone uses "Your" instead of "You're" in a sentence, but only because it took me a while to understand it as well.

I actually had trouble remembering this for a while, so there are many grammatical mistakes in some of my older stories I have posted online. Now that I understand it it just feels like second nature.

Don't they teach you these things in school? this seems to be a very common problem but it really shouldn't be.

Of course they taught me this in school. I just learn slower than the rest.

That can't be it, because it's not just you.

I did not realize you were asking the reason for everyone. I was just speaking for myself, and what I said was true. I learn much slower than everyone else. I do not know about the rest of the world.
