tl;dr?

four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair:

  • The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes
  • The nature of the copyrighted work
  • The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole
  • The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work
Basically don't sell it, don't claim it as your property and don't cause a problem with it. Edited by Bohtty

Chances are they won't care. Mostly those businesses don't care unless you're making money off of it or claiming it's yours or taking money from them.

It's the taking money part that they usually will claim you on because there are a lot of things that could be argued as "taking potential money from them", but your right. Chances are it wont ever become a problem for OP.

Thank You, I bookmarked the fair-use page.

Careful though, text on a government website isn't a garuntee against a large company's (like Hasbro) numerous and skilled lawyers. Just be careful :]

Youtube won't offer to pay you unless your content is 100% original. Fan art drawing how-to's and speed paints and the like are all considered original content. If it Youtube offers to pay you for it then you can probably safely assume its legal to accept or else it would become a large liability for Youtube as well.

Copyright and trademark law is incredibly compex. Any of Hasbro's lawyers could find a reason to shut down any fan-produced content at any time. Mostly they turn a blind eye as it's free advertising for the toys, and a good way to keep a loyal fanbase.

If you are making artwork that isn't for sale, you will probably be OK. And really the first thing they'll do if they are unhappy is demand you remove the content from the internet. As ever, consult a lawyer for specifics (and even then Hasbro's lawyers could probaly find an exception or argue case law to overturn anything they suggest)

I still would be careful, They're ridiculously strict about that kind of thing, and they'll get you when you least expect it.
