technology Mac users: Do you use an antivirus?

I have an iMac, I've had it for 5 years and it still works well. I'm actually amazed it has lasted this long with the amount I use it. When I first switched to Mac from Windows I installed Sophos (a mac anti-virus) but uninstalled it as it kept freezing for some reason, I then went about four years without having one installed.

I now have AVG's Mac anti-virus installed. It'll sometimes pop up asking me to quarantine a file so I guess something is working with it.

Do you bother having one installed?

I had to quarantine a file last night. I tend to move things from this iMac to my Windows laptop so I get a bit worried I may infect my PC from my mac without an antivirus (is that a thing?)

Oh don't worry about that. Most malware is made specifically for the system it is on. If you switch it, well for one, it won't start. OSX runs .app and Windows run .exe. And for whatever reason, a malware coded with java (something that can run on both) starts, it'll start looking for folders and files that don't exist because well, OSX and Windows are built differently.

That's good to know :) I mostly use that laptop for games :)

I've been using my Macbook Pro for about five years, and I've never had any serious virus or malware issue. Hoever, since it is getting rather old, I decided to get Avast, just in case.

I know Macs are expensive but they seem to last a long time. The only problem I have with my iMac now is the CD/DVD drive no longer works (it'll just pop disks back out) I use an external one now and I don't use that much. My friend's macbook is like 7 years old o.0 his CD drive has also broke but everything else works fine.
