web Youtube screwed up the comment section again

So Youtube decided recently that you don't need to have paragraphs and formatting of any kind in the youtube comment section.

I found this out myself today when I posted a rather lengthy comment and found that those paragraphs and indentations were all smashed together in this ugly word-wrapping block of text format that even Notepad would cringe at.

How are people supposed to be able to articulate their points in the comments below when they are LITERALLY not allowed to format what they say in a way that is easily readable and digestible? Forget about the trolls and all of those people for a second; I'm talking about the people who actually use youtube as a place for discourse and debate? I know I do, and I've found many an actually interesting discussion on there. NOW however those discussions have been retroactively turned into gibbering blocks of letters because YOUTUBE doesn't like the idea of formatting your comment intelligibly apparently.

I would say I hope they fix this, but knowing youtube I'm not holding my breath.

So what are your thoughts on this latest bullshit coming down the pike from the people at youtube?

I never done comments there in ages but I only use livestream chat. About that I find just too unreal but then it is YouTube. So many mess ups they've done that it doesn't really surprise me anymore

Because when they implemented Google +, they removed the character limit, and people could make walls of text, and they don't moderate it, or make it readable in the slightest.

I don't even bother to read comments that are essay length on YouTube. It tends to be a waste of my time and the topics of discussion are usually very trivial.

Plus, most YouTubers tend to be nasty people and I'd rather not read what's on their mind.

Google+ happened ages ago. However it wasn't until just recently that you could not make your comments into paragraphs and format what you want to say. Taking away that ability is just going to make the comment section that much worse.

It's more the principle of the thing. Yes there are plenty of people who write horrible comments. However there are also people like me who actively engage in intellectual debate online in the youtube comment section and our ability to do so is now extremely hampered by the lack of ability to format what we say. A giant block of text is nothing but an eyesore even if what is being said could have good points.

@@Buck Testa,Oh, my mistake. I haven't paid too much attention to YT comments since they did that. All the same, Google/YT continues to make the site more and more messy and confusing. And will probably continue that way.

Fair enough. Forgive me, I'm just very apathetic towards things like the YouTube comments section so I suppose I wouldn't understand completely.

There is a reason why my youtube name is "Youtube, all I want to do is watch a video, stop making me update."

This ongoing degradation of the comment section is one of them.

I've been on Youtube for quite a long time. Every decision they've made towards the comment section has just made it worse.

There was a time when Troll comments didn't survive for more than a couple hours because they would get thumb down enough to be automatically removed. There was a time when the most liked comments rose to the top. It was a good time for the comment section.

Now the most COMMENTED post rises to the top, and the most commented on post is more often than not a Troll comment. A troll comment you no longer have the ability to vote down with your peers to remove, and is the first thing you see when you scroll down from the youtube video along with all the other ones like it.

Add on top of that that now you can't even format a youtube comment so anything you write comes out as an unintelligible block of text, and you have to wonder if Youtube is actually favoring the trolls over the decent comments at this point.

I'd worry more for the actual youtubers that make content for a living over youtubers like you and I who just visit the site to comment or just watch a video.

If things keep going as they are the big youtubers that we love will suffer. Youtube is starting to focus on quantity of quality and that affects how much content creators who prefer quality make for a living on youtube. That's way more dire in my opinion.

Its occurred to me like a week ago, sometimes I am a smart ass and put right under 'read more' me saying something else exactly where they click read more, like a joke or meme,  something snarky or ending a sarcastic statement or something idk. But now I can't. Also youtube debates are like 90% of the time illogical. Some dude who doesn't even understand basic science arguing with me about god and stuff is a little annoying. And yes sometimes we need spacing but maybe cutting down on it they think it'll be more readily digestible for the average youtuber to be able to send replies perhaps. But that means wall of texts instead of articulating paragraphs. Its a little annoying but not half as annoying as the people in youtube comments anyways. I mean sometimes there are good conversations and stuff but those tend to be briefer because I don't need to spend a half hour getting into a large explanation over something. Pretty sure I had comments at 200 lines before. Maybe even 500.

Yes, youtube comment sections is pretty much a pool of ignorance at this point, but that has partly to do with the inability to vote down these bad comments before they have a chance to take root in there like years before. Youtube had its troll comments back in the day, but it was NOTHING like it is nowadays, and that is because we have no way of removing them save for leaving it to the content creator themselves. When they DO do that however, they are harassed for "censorship"

However the quality of youtube comments doesn't really justify removing the ability to remove formatting from a youtube comment entirely. A block of text is going to be irritating regardless of the quality of the post, making the comment section even more cancerous in the process.
