I recently moved out around spring 2020. Long story short, it has been a emotional ride for me.

I would love to move out of my current place. Haven't been able to sell it yet due to the pandemic stuff. But I just need to get a place of my own so that I can have my own space. I'm currently living with my older half-brother who owns half the house with me owning the other half. We're two entirely different people and living together is awkward. Seriously. I've had more words of conversation with people on the forums in the space of a month, than I have with my half-brother in all the years we've known each other.

I've been dreaming of moving out on my own for literal years now. Every once in a while I'll just go window shopping on Zillow to see what's available, even though I don't have a hope of being able to afford a house yet. It's gotta be close enough to the city that I can get to work easily, but far enough that I can actually get some privacy. If I can see another house while standing on my front or back porch, it's too crowded (though for a first house, I'm willing to be a little less picky). Also has to be large enough to work from, and in my budget (will probably be somewhere between 60k and 75k. Obviously any house of that size in that price range will have problems, so I'd need to be careful and make sure it's stuff I can fix). With any luck, I'll be living on my own in less than a year.

My dream house is that, just on steroids. In ten or twenty years or however long, I want to move to the Rocky Mountains in Montana, in a 1,500~2,000 square foot home (the vast majority of that space would be used for work, which means I'd get a huge tax write-off. Everyone loves lower taxes) with not another soul in sight, yet still within a ten to twenty minute drive of civilization. Preferably a town, not a city. As long as it's got a post office and a grocery store, that's all I need.

I'm pretty happy with my current place; it's definitely not perfect but probably better than I could've asked for all things considered. It's affordable for my city, I get to be around people while having my own room, and there's plenty of space. Only problems are that the house is old so stuff is occasionally falling apart, and my housemates smoke weed in the living room :eww:

I moved here in May and plan to stay here for at least the next 6 months.

I have yet to move out and not having a job again means I really can't. I'm not mentally stable enough to move out anyway...

Maybe once I get back on my feet and my brother kicks his shitty roomies out, I can move in with him.

My partner and I bought our condo last spring. I was in between jobs at the time so all the extra time I had went to packing and moving what I could.

Word to the wise: don't buy a 300 pound sleeper sofa then live on the second floor.

We're probably going to stay here a few years, five at most. Do some renovations and finally build equity in something as opposed to throwing away all our money on rent with a landlord who might get to things whenever they feel like it. Now, WE are our own landlords. It's hella empowering.

But it's too small to have kids or a dog so we're eventually going to buy something bigger with a yard.

What I always hate about moving is that I always find out just how much extra crap we have. Our condo is like 60% the size of our old rent house and we had to get rid of a lot of extra stuff. We threw away about 1,500 pounds of junk that couldn't be recycled or donated. It was astonishing. It also felt pretty cathartic to just let it go. 10/10 recommend.

Still, I hate moving with every fiber of my being. I've done it probably 7 times since moving away from my hometown. So if future moves can be kept to a minimum, that'd be ideal.

I refuse to let go until you're impressed.

Sounds pretty dope B)

As for me, I'll probably be looking to move out around winter break of 2021 so I can start taking my core classes at the University I want to go to about an hour and a half away from where I currently live. I live at home right now and I'm taking my general classes at the local community college, so moving out on my own for the first time and going to a big University will be quite different for me :twi:

Well to be honest covid ruined everything. My plans to move out have been halted due to the virus situation. Not only that my company I work for has taken a devastating hit. I don’t know for how long I’ll have a job for. We went from before covid to being told we were never not going to have overtime to now during covid we will never see overtime again for a very long time.

I am trying to stay optimistic that things will be good and I can move out eventually. I have to see what exactly is going to happen with my job.
