There are quite a few self remedies depending of the cause. Is it near where the shoulders join the neck? Do you happen to have any tennis balls available?

Got it. Shoulder pain can (on occasion) be fairly diffuse, and can actually be neck pain, which is why I asked. What I am about to mention has a qualifier or three. I am assuming the pain is recent and has not persisted for days, is fairly bearable, and more importantly is not something that reoccurs all of the time. If any of those are the case make an appointment at a clinic or you physician.

Some suggestions.

If the pain is within the first 48 hours ... fill a plastic bag with ice. Wrap it with a thin towel, apply to the painful area. This helps with inflammation. Repeat several times a day. You can also use heat but usually you restrict that to 24-48 hours after an injury.

Restrict use of shoulder as much as you can. This means using a keyboard, playing games, or anything that would increase tension or use range of movement with your shoulder.

Over the counter NSAID's are fine. Also if you have tumeric you can make a herbal drink that helps inflammation and pain.

If you have another person, a massage may help as well, if alone you can kind of do it with a tennis ball (but you don't have access to one).

Honestly ... ice and rest and safe use of OTC's are best bets. If this is something that keeps cropping up you do need to get it looked at.

dude SO MUCH no... you can't get over the counter Non Steroidal based anti inflammatories because they can cause heart problems...  you have to see a doctor first to get that

Skylinx to answer your question it won't go away for a few days you can try lessening it by eating protein and carbs but you have already done the damage

next time when you do heavy lifting or what ever afterwards stretch out your muscles and try eating some protein and something sugary 30-40 min after the strenuous activity

The first thing you mentioned is incorrect. You can buy naproxen and ibuprofen in both the US and UK over-the-counter, both are regulatory approved NSAID's. Aspirin too. The second thing you mentioned regarding heart problems is so unlikely as to render it a non-issue. The packaging of the NSAID will contain specific warnings of taking the OTC if the person has certain general and specific conditions (kidney, liver, cardiovascular, on BP medication, etc). I am certainly never going to recommend something that a medical professional would need to prescribe. For example, you can't buy diclofenac potassium at the store.

Again, the goal is to generally lower the inflammation. If it has been persistent for four days, and rest and managing inflammation has not been successful ... I suggest a clinic or physician.

Don't forget the importance of enough sleep. It's mainly when you're asleep that your body recovers and heals itself  :)

well if you mean Asprin or Ibuprofen and not Voltaren then say that also no one without doing anything med related knows what an NSAID is

any way things like Ibuprofen and Naproxen should not be just taken without speaking to a physician first regardless

he did some manual labor and has some muscle pain he doesn't need drugs he can suck it up and wait it out like the rest of us who go to the Gym regularly

Yes, good work that man. Also swimming helps muscle recovery.

When I have deep muscle pain, I use Aspercreme with Lidocaine. It works as good as Icy-Hot but doesn't have that harsh smell. It's basically odorless. Just make sure you get the kind with Lidocaine if you want the really strong relief.

I'm like my own personal chiropractor yet shoulders that's just because you're not working out bruh. There are many exercises for the shoulders that I do repeatedly everyday as a result no pain. One of the most simply exercise is spread your hands out as a cross then to the middle of your chest you pull against each other this will train your shoulder and back. Not to mention being decent toning exercise for them arms bruh.
