spoiler Season 6 Finale Plot Revealed

In "The Cutie Map," it seems (to me at least) that Starlight Glimmer might not sincerely believe in her ideology, given that she retained her own cutie mark and became indignant when the rest of the village questioned that.

She thought keeping her mark was a necessary evil to achieve her goal. She didn't tell anybody else for fear that they, now having been convinced of her ideas, wouldn't accept her. In regards to being indignant, I don't really see how that at all proves anything. She's being indignant because they aren't seeing her reasoning.

That does make sense. It's certainly not the impression I initially got from the episode, but it's valid as far as I remember.

I no longer feel that two-partners are inherently more interesting than individual episodes, particularly given that their usual action focus is par for the course at this point, and that this particular one has promised no distinguishing features aside from its different heroes.

This is what happens when you have a show that's half serialized and half slice-of-life.  It's usually better to pick one or the other and stick with it.

In that case, they might as well make it more episodic.

That would probably work in the character development department for the short term.  But what they really should do is make it serialized, where even the individual episodes have an impact on the overall series.  Then it wouldn't feel like the other 5 members of the mane six are just pushed into the background during the major arcs.

The reason so many people are so negative about these finales and premieres is because the episodic part of the show doesn't feel like it has as much of an impact on everything as the two-parters do (and the episodic parts are where the other 5 tend to be used the most often).  But if you serialize the show, you remove that issue altogether.

I sort of felt like season 6 was going in a direction not unlike that at first, where it's still episodic, but the influence of earlier episodes can still be felt. Honestly, I think it managed to keep that up until the glut of simplistic slices-of-life in the latter half, so I hope the next season takes that and expands on it.

Because we totally get to see the remane 5 shine in two parters

The biggest complaint for the longest time with two parters, like Unlikeable said, is that the remane 5 are always getting the shaft in these things. The last finale reduced them to cameos. Now once again, they're gonna be sidelined, along with Twilight, in favor of a character that the show has already had trouble and doing a weak job of getting people to care about or warm up too. And I have a bad feeling her "unlikely team" is gonna consist of a bunch of brony bait characters. I'm already expecting Trixie at this point

Or, you know, characters who are being foreshadowed throughout the season (who wound up becoming brony bait anyway). Though Trixie and maybe Discord are probably the only ones who will appear in the finale with an established fanbase lasting well before S6 entered production.

A rewatch of the season 4 finale has made me a little more open to this kind of episode, even if I do still think the "big threat to Equestria" plot is awfully tired at this point. I'll be happy if Starlight Glimmer gets some nice development, although just seeing her again - along with, most likely, Gabby, Thorax, etc. - will be fun enough in itself. Really wanna see those two again especially.
