Water necklace?

It's a gadget that allows Knuckles to breathe underwater.

What in Equestria are those?

Since I pre-date mass-acceptance of the internet, I tend not to care what it thinks about anything; most actual Sonic fans will usually apologise in advance for liking the series whenever it's brought up, which kinda highlights the problem. Well, I won't be doing that. I've been a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog all of my life, and I'm not ashamed of that.  ^_^

Yeah, Heroes especially.

Heroes had the best voice acting among the three games with the first Sonic video game voice cast, yet there were a couple of duds here and there, but that couldn't be helped. The late Deem Bristow was at his finest voicing Dr. Eggman in Heroes, and even now I can still recall some of his better lines.

the problem of people being split into different groups because the games appeal to different people is why I think SEGA should find one formula and stick to it, while changing, adding and removing things here  and there to try and stop dividing everyone, to stop things like what happened with the transition from Generations to Lost World.

Although this sounds nice, there's the problem that pretty much everyone in the fanbase has irreconcilable differences over which Sonic game was the best, and over issues like whether a Sonic game should even be made in 3D or if there should even be other characters besides Sonic and Eggman. Most say Sonic 3 was the best game, some say the franchise went off the rails there while others would put it at Sonic Adventure, or in 2006, etc., or those who say the franchise never went off the rails. A thousand different people have played Monday morning quarterback on what Sonic game design should be and it goes all over the place. This is why I appreciate efforts like Freedom Planet; you can just take what worked or what you wanted to work and make an entirely different game without insinuating in any way that this is what Sonic "should" be.

In short, no one agrees on a single formula. It would be a valiant effort, but spending enough time around this fanbase gets you to know that it's now virtually impossible to please everyone.

Fan games are awesome and can sometimes be even better than the official products, but I've yet to see a fan game based on Sonic hit that high of a note for me. But It's good to see that now SEGA's been beginning to sort of collaborate with people who DO know how to do that, like Christian Whitehead.

Although that's a great leap forward, there are also things Sega is missing that show how out-of-touch they can be. There is a huge library of games that fans have already remastered or want to see, and are chomping at the bit to get officially, and Christian Whitehead isn't the only Sonic fan making great games. Hell, Whitehead has been pushing Sega to let him do Sonic 3 for a while now, arguably the most beloved game in the series, but Sega continues to drag their feet on it. Likewise, they won't do a mobile re-release for the criminally underrated Sonic Advance and its sequels -- at least not outside of Japan. It's a great concept that they've had some success with, but unfortunately it's hard to believe Sega went into these partnerships anything more than half-heartedly. They probably don't want fans doing the dev teams' jobs better than them.

Yikes... Must have caused many splinters and bone crushing depression that day...

That's good to hear, It's a little sad of those people but hey, I won't judge.

Best voice acting? Sorry, I have to disagree with you there. While a lot of them were still carried over from the Adventure games, Tails had a new voice actor for Heroes, and well, I hate to have to insult him but I can't stand his Heroes voice! I actually think Deem Bristow was at his best in the first Sonic Adventure, It's too bad SEGA didn't get him to sound threatening more often, seriously, the only time I've been able to take him seriously was this line.

Not that Eggman is supposed to be threatening mind you, but I like the touch. Still prefer Mike Pollock though.

Well, I suppose the damage has already been done. Still, if you can't please everyone, I'd still try to please as many as possible.

To be honest, most of the Sonic games people wanted done have been re-released or remastered. Most people seem unaware Sonic 3 & Knuckles already got a PC release (Though god knows why they're so against the game now...) and Sonic 1/2 have been remastered, hell, even those old game gear games and Sonic R got ported at one point. Having never played Sonic Advance, I can't really relate to that but I suppose they could re-release them on the 3DS eShop.

I agree that Tails' voice was annoying to no end, and the same does apply to both Cream and Charmy, but I do feel that the rest did a better job than in the previous games. Omega's voice is my favourite and even now I continue to recall some of his more memorable quotes when the mood suits me.

That's perhaps the best line Deem Bristow ever spoke as Dr. Eggman. Not even Mike Pollock has been able to replicate something like that and he's voiced Eggman since 2005.

I don't think he was trying to replicate it though, look at every set of Sonic voice actors, they all speak quite differently from each other and sometimes depending on the actor their personality can come off very differently. Granted, just now I did remember one threatening mike pollock quote (not as good as the other one, but It's still notable.)

Long John Baldry, Jim Cummings, and Gary Chalk were other three who provided a voice to Eggman--I don't know who the voice was for the Sonic O.V.A from 1999. Baldry comes off as comical and boisterous while Cummings provided a more sinister, manipulative interpretation. Chalk was kind of an oddity since he was Eggman in Sonic Underground, and we both know what Bristow and Pollock added.

That would be Long John Baldry unintentionally coming up with that (in)famous Internet meme. I never get tired of hearing that in various forms of media.

Yeah, It's a classic. Put it right up there with "You're gonna crash! Aaaah!" "Teriyaaaaah!" "Because... We're Sonic Heroes!" "Where's that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald!" "Don't touch it!" "Want some chocolate?" "Someone ordered a large clobbering topped with everything!" etc.

Well, can't blame them for how they are treating Sonic nowadays considering the games that were released lately . Still, it's a shame that such an icon has to go through all that. Maybe it's the times, but I see that not only Sonic is stumbling around these days. Seems that most of the great videogame kings are struggling this age

True, I suppose SEGA deserves some flak, but not on the level they're getting. They didn't even develop Sonic Boom!

I just really hate that Shadow super edgy character and all those other colored hedgehog characters. Like Silver? It just looks so cheap.

It's true that a lot of the characters have shortcomings in their design and personality, but I'm one of those people who see the good in everything. To be honest though, I don't see why people label Shadow as edgy. He's just your average obligatory rival character who has the same ability as the other but is more dark or evil, or just thinks differently. Ya know, like Goku and Vegeta, or Mario and Wario. Though now that I think about it, the reason he probably gets that reputation is because of the one game named after him where they decided to give Shadow guns and make everything moody and dark, which is just pathetic. I get SEGA was trying to appeal to a mature audience with another series (Yes, they were planning on creating a whole Shadow game series before this blew up in their face) but you can't just throw guns, minor curse words and bleak environments and call it mature. It needs to have actual thought put into it like Devil May Cry or Half-Life. Sorry, I went off on a tangent, also, back to the subject at hand, they tried to make him super kid friendly in Sonic Free Riders, but it just doesn't work for him. He's not inherently edgy, but his personality clashes in that game, he doesn't have the same feel good power of teamwork personality Sonic has, he's the opposite, that's the point of a rival.

What are your opinions on the recent Sonic games that have been released within the past five years--including this year.

Well, Generations was certainly awesome. I found Lost World decent overall. The Sonic Boom games? What Sonic Boom games? There aren't any.
