Does Rarity have the least useful occupation out of the Mane Six?

As much as I love Rarity and think of her as my waifu and best pony I wonder if really she has the least useful occupation at least in terms of importance out of the Mane Six.

 

Twilight: She is the Princess of friendship, tutors Ponies on magic, acts as a delegate and deals with the books in Ponyville.

Applejack: She runs a farm that ends up offering food and other assorted items to the town and elsewhere.

Rainbow Dash: She helps with the weather, does lots of other things to help around Ponyville.

Fluttershy: She takes care of orphaned or wild animals, gives them homes, feeds them, takes care of them when sick.

Pinkie Pie: She entertains lots of Ponies and is the go-to Pony for any parties and makes Ponies laugh and cheers them up.

Rarity: She does design some very nice clothes, dresses and outfits. But being that clothes aren't required and more of a novelty and such is it that important?

Her fashion makes ponies happy and helps them express themselves through their outfit's. Her occupation is about as useful as Pinkie's, which is that it helps spread a bit of extra happiness and creativity.

Unlike the others, Rarity has branched out her business by having boutiques in her name in Canterlot and Manehatten in addition to Ponyville. If anything, I'd say she has been more successful. Besides, a lot of her customers are mares who are always looking for new stylish outfits to wear.

I would agree with OP, whereas her dresses might be needed for high class society, ponies don't wear clothes, they might wear accessories, but not clothes.

yea as said many times before.. cloths are useless but clearly some fancy ponies will pay a decent price for them so its not that bad income wise $$$ rarity is probably the richest of all her friends which could come in handy

Want me to be honest? I'd say Twilight has the least useful occupation on a daily basis. Like, what is she anyway? Princess of Friendship? What does she do during the day? Teach friendship? Sure, it's useful for SOMEPONY sometimes, she helps individuals find their way but it's still way less useful than what the other of the mane 6 do for others. Same with her teaching magic.. She's not exactly a teacher, she just thinks it's fun to teach sometimes when she gets to. Books??? It's just as useless as dresses are to ponies. How many ponies have gone through the library looking for important info?? I'm pretty sure they could do that without Twi's inputs anyway. That's just my opinion though.

Novelty is evidence of a good and happy society who do not need to just struggle for food or such, its a good thing. It may also be a reason for competitors to up their ante which competition of business is good for people, and spending helps the economy, and she donates to others too, gives her time and skills for the needy sometimes.

I don't see how it matters, but I suppose Rarity's job technically has the least social benefit. That said, it still drives the economy, and Rarity's an artist. She engages our aesthetic senses. Clothes still seem important for formal gatherings, and Rarity specializes in formal attire, so that's hardly insignificant.

 

Given that RD's a Wonderbolt now, I'm actually not sure if she's still on the weather team. In this case, she's more or less in the same boat as a performance flyer, though perhaps as entertainers the Wonderbolts have more mainstream appeal.

Naw.. Rarity is just as useful as the rest of them..  if anything she is on par with Pinkie for least useful occupation wise I suppose. That being said, she meets a demand that other ponies want, just like Pinkie does, and as such she is pretty high in demand. Fashion is very big in Equestria... just because some don't see it as important, does not meant others don't see it differently.

 

To spin it in a different way to the real world, MLP would and should not exist in the sense, since writers and animators of cartoon shows could be classified as utterly useless in the grand scheme of things. However, a vast majority desire them, so what can be classified by some as a worthless job is actually pretty important.

 

I see rarity in the same way.. she meets a service very high in demand.

Going to be honest, apart from twilight, ALL of the mane six's job's aren't really what I'd call "important". Free market economy here, all of the group's jobs, apart from twilight's, would be easily taken care of by a number of other ponies if they were to up and dissapear. They're not Singular, irreplaceable snowflakes here who are the ONLY ones who can do their jobs.

 

The only one who isn't able to be replaced is twilight and that's due to being an alicorn. Applejack is a farmer, and there are plenty of farmers out there. Pinkie is a party planner, that's not a singular irreplaceable position. Fluttershy is POSSIBLY unemployed. Rarity is a fashionista, but there are TONS of them out there, like Suri. Rainbow dash's Joining the wonderbolts has so far been a DISASTER with her Royally screwing up as a wonderbolt in her introductory Wonderbolts episode.

I suppose Rarity's business should be the busiest during Winter mainly because ponies that aren't even interested in fashion would still buy scarves or something to keep warm.

Well, she's not just a fashion designer, but also a tailor. She seems to be the only tailor in ponyville too. I think tailors can be important.
