Would you say a scarred eye and a clearly artificial leg would do the trick?

Nah, that's not enough to get a pg rating, there's tons of pirates with peg legs and stuff like that in tons of G things.

They'll probably want to ratchet up the villain's darkness a bit or have some Twilight's kingdom level violence-- Equestria girls 1 got a PG rating due to Sunset satan for example, they just need to Storm king seem scary and intimidating or show him actually physically hitting someone rather than cutting away as it happens.

Minions and Frozen are rated PG, and they are even more kiddie than MLP.

Frozen has potty humor, I think that warrants pg. Also the action drama and romance.

Where are you getting these MPAA ratings for the EQG movies? I can't find any record of them.

Actually, NM on what I wrote, I was about to link the IMDB article, but it looks like it was rated G after all according to the page.

I'm actually confused, I could have sworn I read it being rated PG. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2908228/

IMDb is about as reliable as Wikipedia, only it's more of a pain to correct any issues. Case in point, a fanmade MLP movie poster was once listed as an official image related to the film.

Speaking of... I'm pissed the message boards are going down. The MLP community over there was wonderful.

Finding Dory was rated PG for mild thematic elements, though it should have been rated G in my opinion. So I think MLP: The Movie will get PG'd in the US as well.

In most other countries, however, it will be the equivalent of a G rating (U in the UK, for example). That is, except at least in New Zealand, where there were a few DVDs of the show with a PG rating there.

I also know that the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board of the Philippines takes things over-seriously. They rated too many films supposed to be suitable for children their own "PG" rating, which is actually equivalent to our country's PG-13. Only difference is is that children under 13 need to be with an adult to see the film.

According to the MTRCB, G films in their area should not contain violence, threat, abuse, horror, or other themes that may cause fear or disturbance to a young child’s mind. If My Little Pony: The Movie has any of those (and we know it will), chances are, it will get the Philippine PG rating as well.

That said, I'll go with "PG that may as well have been rated G", like almost every animated film made in the last decade.

Though the MPAA is a bad joke used more for marketing than parental advisory, so it's not like it matters much in the long run.  :derp:

Though if this movie is even less action packed than the show... :unamused:

Alright here's why I'm confused by the G predictions:

It paints a bad light on the movie. See if it's rates PG people will see it as appropriate for both kids and adults.

parental guidance is appropriate for kids? PG was usually accompanied by a "13", which meant it contains content that was geared toward teenagers. Not little kids.

.....Does the G rating even exist anymore?

I wonder that, too. Seems it's slipping into extinction as the world goes to hell, and more mature movies are being aimed at kids.

If there's any sense of danger or fantasy elements then it's an automatic PG, by today's MPAA standards.

I think it should be a light pg

would prefer it getting a G rating as the demographic would be larger and more children would be inclined to see it but honestly. Who listens to ratings anymore

wouldn't make a difference if it were G or PG, children 3-5 would still go to see it and be fascinated with the the pretty visuals and high pitched voices. i can guarantee you if something is animated, colorful and for kids, parents won't care about the rating and still bring their children to go see it. so it really doesn't matter

I know this is an older topic, but I just want to point out that the "violence" in Twilight's Kingdom is incredibly tame. No physical contact is made at all in that scene. The worst that happens is Tirek getting mildly annoyed at Twilight's laser in his face, but none of the characters being shown in any real pain is a big factor in keeping the rating low. Remember Meghan had a note that said Twilight couldn't kick Tirek in the face, so it was clear they couldn't physically harm each other or at least have it be shown. The Changeling battle in Season 2 is another where they don't show actual hitting, just the before or after; it sounds silly but these things make a huge difference when rating media. I personally think the movie will be G, but I'm not really sure how difficult it is to keep a G rating these days. I looked up G movies in the last few years and there's a surprisingly low amount of them. So if anything, even with "Twilight's Kingdom levels of 'violence'" the movie should be G, but can very likely be PG. I'd imagine Hasbro would prefer G just so there isn't any brand issues.

I would want it to be rated PG to reach a bigger audience because if something is rated G nowadays people would assume its a baby movie. A PG Rating would most likely be given if it has intense battles and maybe some more edgy dialogue. But I wouldn't like it to seemed forced or else it wouldn't be funny.

(edited)

Judging by how characters in MLP have interacted with antagonists (violence being part of such interactions) in the show, I'm expecting a PG rating.
