Why do people hate Jehovah's Witnesses?

I don't hate people based on their faith. It's totally ridiculous to do that...

Though I'm not a big fan of religion in general. Countless times has it incited stupid wars. Heck, it's probably the most common factor that starts that complete silliness., anyways. I also have completely no respect for people that think it completely necessary to make everyone believe (In fact, that makes me believe even less!)...

The same reason any other religion is hated.... They try to push it down your throat.

Well it's not "pushing it down your throat" as long as they're merely sharing it with you. You HAVE the right to ask someone if they'd like to discuss a topic, theological, moral, political, what have you.

If you respectfully decline and they respectfully cease to come around to your house, then no harm done.

Some people seem to believe the mere mention of someone else's different, personal beliefs is "shoving it down their throats". I call it, "grow a spine and get out of your bubble once or twice".

That's not what I'm talking about... I have no qualms with someone sharing what they believe in.... I have qualms with uninvited  quests at my doorstep, legislation based on religious beliefs, religious violence, slam campaigns against atheists EXC.

Never said that, but since you bring it up.................

While atheists do commit crimes like all other groups, religious groups tend to make up much larger section of prison populations than atheists

Theists commit a disproportionate amount of crime compared to atheists.

I haven't read the pages yet, but I would be curious of the more specific details of that.

I BELIEVE that religious people outnumber aethists in general in the world.

Many prisoners find religion AFTER being thrown in there.

And lastly, you can say you're part of any group under the sun. I know a ton of people that claim they believe in something because they were tangentially related to it in someway. I've seen many people identify as Christian for no other reason than "I went to a Catholic school". But otherwise, they do/believe NOTHING related to the belief system at all.

EDIT add-on: Believing in the possibility of a greater force in the universe doesn't mean you actually obey any kind of moral system. And NOT believing doesn't mean you're a generally good person either.

People also tend to push the narrative of criminal on someone they have a self interest in pushing such against, only first through subjugation and slander at first it be, prisoners find religion because there are people in this world that will accept them... and these people are religious, you cant push these types of judgment on someone simply of the merit of "not liking them" and perpetual slander, here say, and "words".... people are only troubled for things you can objectively see happening.... other than that everyone has an illusion of who they want someone else to be in regards to themselves. A lot of people are in prison on some dirt words... and NOTHING more.

And believing that its ok to murder someone on a whim doesn't mean they will do it. But no one in  their right mind is going to say that the belief itself is justified, or a good belief to have.

There is no study (that I could find at least) that looks at conversion rates from atheist to theistic religions In prison, so you cannot assume that a significant amount of jailed atheists converting is to blame for the large number of theists I prison.

Furthermore, atheist populations are increasing, but rates of crime among them aren't growing in a significant way.

There is definitely a correlation between religions is the Judeo-Christian family  (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and violence/crime.

I've seen a LOT of "studies" in my life. As @Rose Coil pointed out, sounds more like you've got a chip on your shoulder and would like to paint religious people as bad. Gives you a really convenient excuse to stay prejudiced against a bunch of people.

I trust statistics, science and logic over my emotions. If I went by my emotions, maybe I would be prejudiced against religious people. But I'm not. The numbers support my thoughts and beliefs, and if they didn't, my beliefs would change. That doesn't make me Prejudice. That makes me a very logical person that values critical thinking over petty emotions and irrational unprovable beliefs.

I am not too keen on mainstream religion in general, because i rather would like to think on my own and because of many of the crimes that have been throughout history in the name of religion. But if someone feels comfort in them, it's nothing i have against.

In Germany, there are not alot of people that are part of Jehovahs witnesses and i never saw anyone of them at my doorstep. And if they did, i was probably still in bed, because i enjoy sleeping in on Saturdays and Sundays. :P

Logic huh? It's that what they're calling it now?

I guess you're right though... You shouldn't listen to me. I am a Judeo-Christian degenerate, prone to crime after all. :orly:

So do these statistics apply to feminist beliefs and racial demographics? Or only religion? People tend to circumstantially back peddle on the standards they hold, in an attempt to seem subjectively accepted, its just the cool new craze to hate christians, and people have had an extensive history hating jws

If I used feminist logic, Christians would be a "privileged class" and id be using tumblr articles to justify and advocate for violence and hatred of Christians and other theistic religions.

Lets just be clear I don't HATE the people that follow theistic religions, I hate the beliefs themselves.

I believe you misunderstand what "feminism" is.

Correlation doesn't equal causation, as I'm sure an intelligent person like yourself can appreciate. Consider, for example, the fact that African-Americans are disproportionately incarcerated in our country (a hot button issue at the moment) - then consider the fact that African-Americans are also markedly more religious than other ethnic groups.

Inclined to disagree, sorry. Antisemitism (an issue even today) doesn't compare to any "hate" some people may have for Christians. There can be no denying that a lot of Christians aren't exactly paragons of Christ's teachings; some people, whether from personal bad experiences or from their observations, assume that all Christians are the same. It grinds my gears, but they're acting from a position of misinformation, not malice. In cases where they've suffered at the hands of Christians (as many LGBT people have, for example), you can understand why they feel the way they do.

I don't hate any religion or denomination of religion. I am Christian and I know that God loves everyone, whether you're Christian, Muslim, Jewish or even atheist. I don't really push it on people though - I just let people find religion out on their own accord (or not).

Maybe that's why some don't like them - they might find them pushy.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not bloody SJW -_- ...good lord reading the start of this thread.

Theyre actually quite nice people. My new co worker is one and he doenst shove the beliefs in our faces at all. He's rather chill and lax about it. They only really have a bad rep because theyre the usual door to door "Have you heard the good news?" type people. Just come across as an annoyance in this modern world because of it.

My only experience with these nutters is showing up on my door at 6 in the fucking morning, asking if I have found Jesus Christ and allowed him into my heart.

My reply? "Sorry, I am an Atheist. Not interested." And the guy acts as if he's seen a bloody ghost.

This has happened twice to me now. With both situations ending with hilarious results. Second time I got harassed for two hours, getting shouted at from outside the property. Everything from a Satan worshiper to a baby murderer.

I don't mind them as much as i mind being attempted forced to believe a certain way.

I have very limited experience with Jehovah's Witnesses. Back at home, they never bothered. I don't really know why that was (was our house marked as some other brand of Christian? Do they even keep data of that?). However, I had one experience with them at my apartment and it wasn't too bothersome for me, actually. I must have had atheist painted all over my forehead because I opened up the door and the first thing they asked is "Are your religious?" and I said "No, not really". They gave me a brochure for a then upcoming event a city away then bid me farewell.

I only opened the door because the only people who had previously knocked on my door were maintenance and I didn't expect anyone else. I wasn't dressed for that either, which probably scared them away further. xD (Oooh no... Immodesty!)

So, I don't really hate them. I'm sure the religion is toxic, but from my understanding they actually don't believe in the meddling of religion in the state (and vice versa, of course) which is something I can give them. They may seek to convert me, but at least they don't intend to do it by government. But I admittedly know close to nothing about them, so I won't speak further.

I don't hate them necessarily and I don't think most people do but they can be off-putting with their overly-cheerful attitude and most people don't like to be bothered about religion.

I don't know any Jehovah's Witnesses personally, so I can'y comment on practicing Witnesses outside of the door to door ones, but it's the intrusiveness of the way they spread their mantra through that method that feels more an affront to your privacy than other forms of religion. With most others, you have a designated building where they will put their ideology to you, to have people come up to your front door and try to sell you something that unlike most religions, we as a populace don't have any clue about is just unnerving.

I only had one Jehovah's Witness come to my door trying to get my attention, was a father and small child. I told them I wasn't interested, neither was the rest of the people in my house; but as they were nice and not stingy or pushy, I wished them well. So it's not a reason to out and out hate them because I know they're not all desperate like some in other parts of the world make them out to be, but again, it's their door to door method that gives them a bad rap. If they didn't do that, maybe things would be better on all sides, leading to a better understanding of their faith.
