Will the main cast begin to change after the movie?

I think I might know the reason why the main characters have been getting limited changes throughout this part of the series. It's because if the characters change too much, and then they act the same way during the movie, it probably wouldn't make much sense to the viewers! Why Twilight hasn't had any change to her destiny since the season 4 finale, why the Elements of Harmony haven't been mentioned, why Spike's crush on Rarity is still going on, and the only reason Rainbow's a Wonderbolt now is because I suppose it was mentioned in the movie and they needed to put it in. This might be why the main characters haven't been getting any changes to their lives and most of the focus has been on Starlight and the supporting cast! Since whatever they do won't be affected by the movie, their characters can change all they want!

So once season 8 comes, we might expect new possibilities from the main cast, because there is no movie in the way, and the main cast can get receive more possibilities in their lives! So even if things are slow for the main cast this season is because they shouldn't change too much for the movie! When season 8 comes, we might get alot of changes!

The reason why these last season 6 and 7 haven't had significant overall story archs are due to the movie. 

 

Even potentially season 5 as well.

 

Season 4 is really the last time we had a season long arch with the chest.

Nah season 5 had an arc with the map.

Season 8 will probably increase in adventure episodes due to the return of Meghan McCarthy and Mike Vogel.

But as of right now, I am not sure we are going to get a new main cast.

So I think season 8 will just involve the mane 6 being the main characters like usual.

That's not what I meant. By main cast changing, I meant the main cast going through dramatic changes in their lives, like Twilight starting to take Celestia's place, Spike starting to question his life choices, Pinkie moving out of Sugarcube Corner to own her own party place, or even changing the looks of some of the characters!

With the movie in the way, the main cast couldn't change too much, but with the movie outta the way, the main cast can be developed much more than now! No limitations!

I don't think the Mane6 will go through any permanent life changes. At most, I think they will make continuity nods to the movie like they did with the rest of the series

If the movie isnt connected to the main show then no, nothing will change.

Changes can be scary sometimes but i will take the risks, to keep the show fresh, they need to shake things up again.

That's a nice thought, but I think we're hoping for too much. I doubt there's anything big in store for the six coming down the pipeline.

I think they DID freeze the status quo for the movie, but I doubt there's actually any plans for AFTER the freeze ends. It'll just keep going as is. Maybe some slight changes in S8, but nothing super big.

Well, other than Spike, Discord, Zecora, and the Cake Twins - you're probably right. I mean what else is there to do with the Mane Six?

To be honest, I can think of a million things, but I don't think the staff are really interested in putting in the effort.

For example, they could follow up more on Dash's view of Daring do and have her try and follow in her footsteps some-- Have daring do get laid up and have to (very reluctantly) ask dash to handle a problem for her, with dash ending up on a road to following in DD's footsteps in tracking down and capturing/safeguarding magical artifacts for some more adventure episodes.

 

Fluttershy they could follow up on how she had that ambition to open an animal reserve. have her end up having more "exotic" animals show up or need help in equestria, with fluttershy having to start trying to study lore about how to care for things like tatzlwurms or Wolpertingles.
maybe have her be asked by others to EXPAND and open up shelters in other parts of equestria, with her working to do so to help out other animals.

 

AJ, maybe do something similiar to the FF mayor mare/AJ comic and have her start to get some ambitions outside of just running a farm?

Twilight got a student. Rarity opened not one, but two stores in major fashion cities. Rainbow is a Wonderbolt. The other three were never terribly ambitious to begin with, which is why Applejack, Fluttershy and Pinkie have had so much focus on expanding their current lives than changing them (though there are possibilities I wish the show would take). Then there's the Cutie Mark Crusaders gaining their cutie marks, all the stuff with Spike and the Crystal Empire, and the addition of Starlight. A lot of recent episodes have also put a fair bit of effort into capitalizing on that, too, such as the season 7's "Celestial Advice," "Forever Filly," and "Parental Glideance." So I think there's been plenty of change since season 5, and while I might wish for more in some corners, I think we've gotten a surprising bit recently, and don't think too much will change after the movie.

At this point I've basically forgotten that she still lives in Sugarcube Corner. Now that you mention it, I do wish this would happen, and given that the movie probably takes place almost entirely outside of Ponyville, I doubt this would change much.

I really hope the sanctuary thing isn't contained to just the one episode. If there's one thing Fluttershy needs, it's some sort of ambition.

The stories of Daring Dash and Flutterwick Chronicles/How to Train Your Wurm practically write themselves

 

AJ is the toughest cookie to crack. One could try and make her inherit an enormous estate from some estranged uncle, so she'd have to deal with land lord stuff, treacherous nobility, local villagers, maids & butlers, suitors, and uncle's disreputable past alongside his connection to her parents.

 

Mane 6 need their own personal stories that are upgrades of their little S01 ambitions in order for this generation to move forward without falling into circulus vitiosus of character creation. Frankly, this "Mane 6 are finished" stance is probably just a product of small-mindedness and carefully concealed frustration towards our glorious writers. However, I'm afraid we'll just get more of the same until FIM isn't profitable anymore.

The Mane 6 will never change but the show has been shifting toward more focus on it's supporting cast as the Mane 6's arcs are finishing up and I don't see that stopping movie or not.
