Do you like the cutie marks the CMC ended up with?

Of course, one of the big buildups on the show was the CMC working to get their cutie marks. However, when they finally did get their cutie marks I was a bit let down because I don't felt they were really unique enough to each pony because all three shared a shield design in common. I would have liked to see more diversity. What do you think?

I agree. Plus I thought Scootaloo would have a cutie mark that resembles her scooter.

I was pretty disappointed when I watched it.

I thought it made sense. I don't see where the shield design comes from, but since they're almost always looking for their cutie marks, it makes sense for that to be their special talent, especially since the episode around the cutie-mark-getting was all about using your talent in new ways, and they only got their marks once they realized what it was they loved. Perhaps the design could have been less uniform, however, and the compromise of having a second symbol within the shield is odd.

I like that they all have similar cutie marks, what most bugs me about them is their design. I dunno, it just feels... wrong.

They look more like stickers than cutie marks to me tbh

My only issue with them is that they sorta dilute the fact that each of the CMC's are very different in their own ways. It doesn't show individuality as much. However, beyond that, I feel their Cutie Marks are probably the best they could have gotten, all things considered. It kept them together as a group and gave them something to focus on going forward. It kept the familiar ground while also taking it in a new direction. That is fine by me.

I think sharing a common signature is fine, yet the execution isn't there.

The color scheme is fairly redundant, based on their manes. While the design, is far-fetched, which tells me the designers had trouble to come up with a clear idea.

That's what I perceive in those cutie marks, indecision and insecurity.

I actually really like them all things considered.

My only problem was that they originally were too small for my taste, but they eventually got bigger, so that got sorted out anyways.

I do feel that they are quite complex marks - and possibly not even what the CMC think they are for.

Even the element they have in common - the tricolour shield - may turn out to be a larger, more general symbol (like the symbol for magic Twilight carries).. .although now I think about it, we have multiple star symbols; starlight has a four pointed star, twilight a six, and now sweetie belle has a five pointed star (although for this, compare to the cutie mark coloratura has, with the same five pointed star and FIVE notes, not just one).

I think it is a good bet that the shields represent the three of them doing something as a team - the stripes appear to be the same colour as their individual manes/tails, although I do note the three coloured stripes on the "new" mlp logo seem to be the same colours too - which is interesting.

I think the three outer symbols just represent the three types of pony they are - apple for earth pony, star for unicorn, and wing for pegasus, leaving just the innermost symbol to represent their talent - so, heart/song note/lightning bolt, each of which could mean a number of things I guess.

Although if the five pointed star means unicorn - why does RaRa have one, when she is an earth pony?

One question if I may ask: Can a cutie mark change anypony at all? Can a cutie mark tell me what to do? Or maybe they're brainwashed by a cutie mark?

Unless there's magical shenanigans involved (like MMC) the cutie mark doesn't change the pony's mind. Otherwise ponies like Troubleshoes wouldn't still have problems figuring out what to do with their lives.

CypherHoof, fair point that they might be more complex than meets the eye and I hadn't really stopped to consider the fact that it ties them to a similar destiny sort of how the mane six represent the elements of harmony.

I understand why they chose them, but I'm still a bit disappointed. I wish they were more unique and tailored to each of the girls' talents instead.

In fact, I'm not too keen on the idea of them helping other ponies get their cutie marks. It used to be a really personal thing for ponies, now they intervene and make it feel a lot less natural and personal.

Not particularly. They're fine, I guess, but the fact that all 3 are basically exactly the same with few minor differences and all 3 are basically for the exact same talent makes them more bland than they should be.

@Everyone complaining about the Marks being too similar

Actually as I've already said several times in the past, the reason why their marks are similar is because they're always meant to be a team helping others. The "symbols on shields" design is actually what Real-Life Crusaders had back in the Middle Ages. Each of the individual symbols are like the filly's coat of arms that each knight would have to represent their viture.

Well, the show teased they were going to get different cutie marks each, but since they have been through a lot together, I think it fits they  all have similar cutie marks signaling that their goals overlap

I honestly don't really care and I never did. It was nice they got their CM, they look pretty. That's it. Even the episode in which it happened wasn't that awesome so, yeh.

I quite liked it - not because the CMC got their marks, but because it took a rather unlikeable character and shifted the viewpoint - that she was acting badly towards other ponies because of parental pressure and expectations, and torn between pleasing her parents and being more social with her peer group.

I suggest they should give up on their Cutie marks for good, well they should do it, but in Season 8.

It does change the pony's mind thank you very much! That has nothing to do with magical shenanigans.

I think it is more complex than that - I would say a Cutie Mark is a reflection of some aspect the pony's inner self, and appears/lights/whatever when the pony is being true to that aspect of themselves; while nopony is just a single one-dimensional expression of one thing, it is the aspect that marks their life path and destiny, singled out and publicly displayed, but also enhancing the owner's ability in that area, a magical "booster" so to speak. So in normal circumstances, it DOES change the pony's mind a little, in that it helps bring what might otherwise be overlooked in favour of more obvious traits to the fore.

When "magical shenanigans" happen though, that enhancement could be at odds with the pony's natural aptitudes, forcing behaviour and granting abilities the bearer doesn't normally express (So STOP DOING THAT, STARLIGHT! SERIOUSLY!" :D)
