Actually, not only did Shadow Play contradict FIENDship Is Magic #3, it contradicts Rainbow Rocks, which strongly implied that Starswirl banished the Dazzlings by himself, while Shadow Play showed it to be a group effort between all of the Pilllars.

But of course that was a thousand year old legend, and to quote - "rumour has it, he found a way to banish them to another world" - given the events in Shadow Play, there isn't a contradiction - the Pillars collectively fought the Sirens, but it was Starswirl that opened the portal they went into (while chasing Somnambula), a feat of sorcery and knowledge.

It contradicts FIENDship of course, but then, most of the canon does :)

I think that she will maybe be reformed at the end of the season, in the battle to stop Tirek. I think she's gonna have to make a choice weather or not to accept the errors of her past and move into a better future by aiding the mane six in defeating him. She could choose to do this either because she gets tricked and betrayed by Tirek like Discord did, or she finally realizes her mistakes, pretty much like Starlight Glimmer did. I guess this is all assuming that she and Tirek are working together in the season finale, which at this point we don't really know if they are or not.

Gotta go the Starlight route if they're going to do it. There's reasonable momentum behind the current direction of the show to point in that direction, if you look at the major themes of Shadow Play and some of the buildup with Thorax and the changelings this season.

In a way, I'd say Chrysalis can be a more human villain than others after the turn of the Season 6 finale. Her malice, similar to Pharynx's resistance to change, can be colored as more out of a spite of learning to change your traditions and comfort in your identity/place for the sake of a better way, perhaps. I have no bones with her eventual reformation if it is well supported.

Chrysalis will be reformed, obviously, this is FIM, they did that with many recently villains so they could do with her, her reject in S6 finale is just a delay to an inevitable. I just wish they could do the reformations in the most believable way as much as possible, which is mostly impossible. Seriously, Chrysalis is a sadistic villain with many irredeemable qualities, how can they make me sympathize with this character without my suspension of disbelief, that would be a challenge for the show. Will she turn 100% good and join the cast? Or She will deny friendship a second time and still a villain? Or she will turn into anti-hero, not good but not evil??? I think the last two options are the best that the show could pull off, the first is just too predictable and repetitive, i predict they will make Chrysalis be betrayed by her partner in crime and realize the error of her ways, like Discord or Tempest, i hope they could prove me wrong because the show did that to me sometime...

I bet she’ll be reformed and Starlight will be the one to convince her to be good.

GimGlam already tried that once though?

Still, given they have their necklaces (and big crown thing) back, the Rainbow Bitchslap of Harmony is now an option again. It seemed to slap some sense into SunShim, at least :D

I'm not much of a fan of thinking about Chrysalis being reformed, but if they give a good enough backstory and/or handle the reformation itself well (e.g. not follow it all the way through, have it take more time than several episodes would allow etc.) then I have no qualms.

Hasbro likely doesn't have the same idea (although I'd be surprised if they did), but I myself imagine why Chrysalis has shown literally zero redeeming qualities and how she could be led to reform ("abusive parents" notwithstanding); I think she may actually hail from a far-off Changeling Empire - consisting of multiple Changeling Kingdoms/Hives under the rule of one individual and lesser ones that rule each kingdom/hive - where the ruler teaches his or her underlings about how to be "real" Changelings and is diligent in making sure they never learn what love actually is so that they starve and are forced into attacking other nations in order to sustain themselves. In other words, Chrysalis may have been rigorously taught and misled about love and what it means to love and be loved while growing up (as opposed to being abused, because I think that's gotten cliché by now), leading her to define love as something it's not and thus turning into a bitter and stubborn character bent on having power over others. And for her to reform, all you would need to do is prove to her that love is better than being evil and that the ruler intentionally misled her and their other subjects so that they may bend to the ruler's will (the best way would be through having said ruler slip and reveal the truth they've been hiding the whole time), causing her to rebel due to having been deceived the whole time and deprived of a much better life she could have had if she knew from the start - especially as she herself relished in deceiving others and would probably be shocked to find out that her own ruler did the same thing to her. After all it happened with her Changeling hive - she starved them and misled them about love so that they would do her bidding, until one Changeling looked into going against the love stealing code and in the end prove to the other Changelings that they were deceived by the queen all along - so I have next to no reason not to believe the Changeling Emperor/Empress is doing/has done the same thing to Chrysalis and possibly other Changeling rulers (and is awaiting the same resolution as in "To Where And Back Again") which imprinted on them and had them repeat it for their own subjects.

But we'll see what happens. If all else fails, I guess I have fanfics to turn to even though I'm not much of a fanfic reader :')

The issue with the changelings and reformation, little to no backstory. We don't know how changelings came to be and Chrysalis in power.

Otherwise she was overthrown from her rule and her hive basically went through a cultural cleansing from her perspective.

Might be interesting if there was a non-pony-centric episode - an alliance between Thorax and Ember sending Pharynx, several dozen of the Hive, and some of the dragons to capture Chrysalis and drag her back to the Hive for judgement (in a bag, naturally)

I'll never be wholly opposed to a reformation, but I'm just not sure why Chrysalis would cross over. Giving her some outside reason to be terrible would verge on retcon territory at this point, especially if it's a justification, and if they just do the "she didn't get it, and now she does" thing, that'd just sort of be redundant of Discord. They could always go the Equestria Girls route and vaguely imply she's been brainwashed by friendship lasers, but I feel the show's moved past that. I don't trust My Little Pony with season-long arcs, so I sure hope they don't try to explain her over the course of several episodes, and while you use the Diamond Tiara episode, I honestly thought that was fairly rushed.

But you know what? I like the show's new theme of imagining people complexly, so if they somehow pull this off, I'm all for it. I generally don't view the epic confrontations as really being what the show's about, so I have no issue with a new villain being introduced every two-parter, because that makes it a little easier to give each of those episodes a unique moral. You could just as easily understand someone complexly while still treating them as irredeemable, but I like this show's optimistic tone enough to generally favour reformations.

I didn't see any implications of Sunset getting brainwashed at the end of Equestria Girls.

Well, modified her personality with relatively little explanation. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

I think I'm one of the few fans who wholeheartedly supports Chrysalis' reformation.

PLEASE DO IT WELL THOUGH. And do it more like Discord's or Starlight's or Stygian's. No magical mind-wipe rainbows!

If Chrysalis were to be reformed, you think it would be in the premiere or the finale?

It's got to be the finale

I'm pretty sure she wasn't brainwashed. Besides, after she put on the crown, Sunset had this shocked look on her face just as soon as she started transforming, and then she was crying. Obviously she didn't like where it was going.

You might want to put a spoiler tag on this. ;)

I don't want her reformed. Mlp is losing all his villains while it would be better to have like 3 villains who return from time to time. I hope she will be thrown in jail (Tartarus) and there she finds Tirek and together they escape in the finale. This would be my best scenario. :twi:

Something tells me Chrysalis will stay a villain, along with Tirek and Sombra.

I hope so. Reforming every character would be a bit stupid. :dash:

Eeyup. I have this idea in my canon to reform this one dragon into a close friend to Spike; he originally tried to kill him when they first met, but he comes to respect and even befriend Spike after going through a few really, really tough battles. I know it sounds really crazy, but it was just an idea I had; think of it like Hulk and Red Hulk.
