To me, The Changelings transforming into their new forms were always like hungry caterpillars becoming beautiful butterflies.

Chrysalis knew nothing of true love that is mutually shared, instead of lying and deceiving. She was essenstially keeping their natural life cycle locked in hungry caterpillar mode.
