as far as the next Spike ep. I feel that they will tease it, and after all Mane 7, and rest of Ponyville, along with the 3 other Princesses express how much they will miss him (especially Twilight and Rarity), he'll decide to stay, because he'll learn, that he already is a true dragon, because he's being true to himself, because the Mane 7 and everypony else, is his family and Ponyville is his home

Well I think it'll be MORE than that! Yeah of course it'll end like that, but I'm sure there's more to it than just that.

I can see something along the lines of Dennis and his relationship with his parents in "Star vs The Forces of Evil" something like this

 

Spike's Dad: (laughs) You think my son, wants to still remain here?! He's a dragon, a superior creature, he'd never turn his back on his heritage, hehe would you kiddo..haha....WOULD YOU KIDDO?!

 

Spike's Dad: Don't fly away from your father!

 

Spike Dad: Do you understand?!
