Should the Windigoes return to the show?

Did anypony else find the Windigoes from Hearth's Warming Eve to be a really cool type of creature/antagonist, and an interesting take on the Algonquian myth of the 'Wendigo'? For those of you who don't know, the Wendigo is a frost or winter spirit that is attributed with both cannibalism and starvation.

Even more so than the Cockatrice, dragons or any of the other creatures we've come across, the Windigoes seemed the most ominous and the most powerful, as they are immortal spirits that could make an entire region fall into a horrifyingly cold winter, and freeze individuals solid by turning their own hate against them. I would greatly enjoy seeing them again in another episode, of which could either take place in the modern show's timeline, or in another 'flashbacky' type episode, like Hearth's Warming Eve.

If a modern show times, I think it'd be interesting to have the Wendigoes return to the region, and lock onto either a small group of friends, or even the entire town. For example, say there's a drought due to it being a long, hot summer (Trollestia strikes again?), and there isn't enough water in the lakes and other bodies of water in the region to be taken up to Cloudsdale to be made into rainclouds. Thusly, a general lack of water all over the region. Friction builds, and once again, the pegasi are blamed by the earth ponies and unicorns for somehow not doing their job right. The pegasi are furious, as it isn't their fault.

The heated summer turns rapidly into a chilling fall, and then as snow starts to arrive within days along with frigid winds, Twilight starts to become suspicious and anxious. These anxieties are confirmed when she hears the cold neighs of the Windigoes in the clouds above. It's up to her and the Mane 6, or maybe even involving the CMC as well, to find a way to get all of Equestria to harmonize and make up, before they're all frozen solid.

Ya know that might make a nice feature MLP: FiM film, actually.

So yeah. Moar Windigoes. What are your own thoughts on the Windigoes? Would you care to see them again? Was it enough for you in that one episode? Have any episode ideas of your own? Talk, little ponies. Talk and dance. Amuse Discord.

I thought that the windigoes were pretty cool, but most Bronies didn't really care about them (*sigh*)

Oh well, at least somepony likes them! :D

I think they were cool, bt it would be difficult to reintroduce them into a conflict. They were also grossly under rated as Discord and Chrysalis were in the same season

Yeah, I'd love to see them have a bigger role. I thought the concept was awesome, but they kinda got overlooked D:

Well firstly, basically all villains pale in comparison to Discord and Chrysalis, so the only point I can make to that is it doesn't matter, they can still have another episode where they have a role xP And secondly, I don't agree with that at all. Introducing villains like Flim and Flam again would be hard. The one and only ingredient you need for Windigoes is hatred and fighting, and like in my example, that's pretty easy to make happen.

Like Ratchet said, they were not nearly as fan-appealing to the bronies as other creatures, especially the Draconequus and the Changeling, as well as Discord and Chrysalis themselves, respectively. Not to mention that there's little more to speculate about.

Honestly, I agree on the fact that they are indeed underrated. They are a huge part of the history of the world (that the universe takes place in), and the founding of Equestria. They were the main conflict, and basically the three Windigoes featured in that episode, and we're defeated from the three ponies' friendships (conisdering that they fed on and are powered by hate). For one thing, since they seemed to be the only three Windigoes shown, were they killed? If so, we're they driven to extinction? I'd love to find this information and more in Season 3, they might possibly be the oldest species in the world. And, like I said, possibly one of the most important.

There was the cry of a Windigo outside at the very end of the episode, when Rainbow and Applejack started fighting again :3 So no, they are not extinct. They're spirits like Discord, so they're probably immortal.

learn/see more about exsisting creatures or get more types of creature? personlly i would like to see new creatures rather then more of the old ones, but they are very cool, even if they just 'dance' in the clouds and make things cold.

Since they're spirits, and they seemed to be looming, and huge in size in comparison to normal ponies, so, I'm wondering what their background could be.

Could they be perhaps.....deities higher than Celestia that were the creators of, not only the world, but the whole universe that the show takes place in...?!

The fact that that's all they need to do to make everything freeze is rather bad-ass to me xP And who says we can't have new ones and moar Windigoes? Not every episode has a new creature. Plenty of time for both~

Hmmm, they seem more like just wild spirits that are attracted to anger and hate to me, but that'd be interesting.

Windigoes are an excellent example of what's called a "noble lie". That is, a founding myth portrayed as fact to inspire moral behavior.

They are certainly fake. The temperature does not go down in any episode when there is a fight. Instead, windigoes are symbolic of the misery and destruction that ponies themselves brought to their societies through their conflict. To make the story understandable by all, and to make the threat of hatred seem even more dire, somewhere down the line someone invented the myth of the windigoes and taught it to children.

I'd argue that the reason they don't show up in any other episodes is due to practical sense. The show is called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, not My Little Pony: Beware the Windigoes. As a minor villain, the writers can't possibly have them mentioned in episodes throughout the show, because it would mean they'd be constrained to forming their plots around the Windigoes. So thusly, sacrificing continuity is the result. Ergo, they only chose to show them at full in this episodes' flashback, when there was a region-wide hatred among all three species of ponies in times long ago.

Clearly they do exist, as Windigo neighed right outside in the winter storm when AJ and RD were fighting at the end of the episode, and the same purple magical heart that was cast long ago appeared above the buildings as well. You can throw that off to 'it was their imagination/the wind' or whatnot if you so choose, but I don't buy that it's 'just a myth'. But that's a perfectly logical explanation on your part~

The age old problem: If the writers wanted to put something in, but couldn't for whatever reason, is that thing still considered canon? I'd say no, but that problem needs a thread of its own to be understood.

Windigoes are awesome! I would love for them to come back. They could make it snow like crazy in ponyville in summer and Twilight would have to use her magic to get them away. Then theyd have a hero party for twil!ght

Well, they couldn't have an episode that is basically a repeat of the flashback in Hearth's Warming Eve. But an episode (or two) could have the Windigoes somehow in it, but maybe in a reason not just because of conflict between ponies. Perhaps there are other things that trigger the appearance of the Windigoes that we don't know about! I'm looking forward to more info about them they could have in season 3.

After re-watching Hearth's Warming Eve, I had the thought of Windigos actually "returning" for season three - provided that it's a story arc, Equestria being shrouded in disharmony, and with everypony duking it out under extreme weather conditions that would seem to be country-wide, the Windigos return from the brink and they are now even stronger than before. What are everyone's thoughts on this general idea?
